BBC Studios has taken 25% of The Only Way is Essex and Geordie Shore exec Sarah Tyekiff’s new indie, Mettlemouse Entertainment.
Tyekiff recently exited Towie producer Lime Pictures, where she ran the All3Media-owned company’s UK and U.S. unscripted slates, and has now re-emerged with Mettlemouse. Former Youngest Media Chief Creative Officer Shaun Parry is joining her as Creative Director.
For the BBC’s production and commercial arm, the investment is the latest in an aggressive series of moves that includes buying Swedish producer Stv, taking stakes in the likes of Simon Shalgosky’s Rebel Rebel Pictures and Small Axe producer Turbine Studios and assuming full control of Voltage TV.
The investment gives BBC Studios a first look at global distribution and format rights from Mettlemouse’s slate. “With BBC Studios’ track record of managing international hits they’re the perfect fit to supercharge our new adventure both...

Geordie Shore standout Nathan Henry finished runner-up on The Challenge: UK and seemed poised to make a deep run in World Championship as a Global Mvp. However, he was quickly medically disqualified. The reality TV star has since spoken about his early exit, admitting he was “absolutely gutted” to find out he couldn’t participate in the Paramount+ competition series.
Nathan Henry on early disqualification from ‘The Challenge: World Championship’
Geordie Shore 10 star Nathan Henry competed on The Challenge: UK, where he finished runner-up and returned for The Challenge: World Championship as a Global Mvp.
They faced off in a qualifier that determined how the newcomers would draft Challenge legends, with the last-place finishers headed straight into elimination. Presumably at the opening challenge, Nathan apparently sustained an injury, resulting in his medical disqualification from the series. Due to his exit, only a female elimination took place.
The British are coming!

That’s My Jam UK and Made in Chelsea producer Monkey has hired Lime Pictures Head of Production Helen Kruger Bratt as its Managing Director. The company has also hired Amy Woolf as Head of Development.
Kruger Bratt will work alongside Creative Directors Will Macdonald and David Grainger and Monkey parent Universal International Studios to oversee a new phase of growth for the unscripted producer and lead its operations. She’ll also be responsible for developing and growing talent within the business.
At All3Media-owned Lime, she worked across Lime Unscripted, Wise Owl Films and Lion Television on shows such as The Only Way is Essex, Celebs Go Dating and Geordie Shore. Considering Monkey’s Made in Chelsea, currently in its 24th season and available in the U.S. on Peacock, inhabits the same scripted reality space as The Only Way is Essex, Kruger Bratt’s hire appears a smart one.

Exclusive: The BBC has continued commissioning UK production company Chatterbox Media despite discovering its owners Nav Raman and Ali Quirk had at least a dozen complaints lodged against them including for bullying over a 12-month period, a Deadline investigation can reveal.
Deadline has seen correspondence sent by UK broadcasting union Bectu to representatives for the BBC, Channel 4 and Channel 5 outlining “widespread and prolonged complaints of mismanagement and bullying” at Chatterbox, having received “short of ten thousand words of written testimony from Bectu members alleging this behavior.”
That letter, sent in February of this year, asked that the BBC, Channel 4 and Channel 5 “investigate this matter thoroughly and cease existing commissions while an investigation is underway.”
Since then, the BBC, which placed resolving bullying issues at the heart of its latest supplier code of conduct, has greenlit Chatterbox for BBC Three reality series Charlotte In Sunderland, led by Geordie Shore star Charlotte Crosby.

Reality stars from around the globe gather for the first-ever party competition series in Paramount+‘s All Star Shore. And of course, with its name and premise, the show wouldn’t be complete without someone from Jersey Shore. Angelina Pivarnick is representing the MTV staple in the series, debuting Wednesday, June 29, as well as Pauly D as the show’s official narrator. Naturally, Pivarnick makes a grand entrance in the All Star Shore series premiere, which viewers get an early look at in the TV Insider exclusive clip, above. Pauly D ushers in her arrival as he says, “Most of the all stars have already arrived, but look who the tide just washed in. Late to the party, as always.” “The old f***ing Og is here, bitches!” Angelina declares as she approaches her fellow competitors, who include stars from past seasons of The Bachelorette/Bachelor in Paradise, Love Is Blind,...

For the first time, stars of multiple reality shows on numerous networks are coming together for a new competition series. “All Star Shore,” produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, is set to premiere on Paramount+ on June 29.
The show includes cast members from ABC’s Bachelor Nation, Netflix’s “Love Is Blind,” MTV’s “Jersey Shore,” “Geordie Shore,” “Acapulco Shore” and “Rio Shore;” VH1’s “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and CBS-turned-Peacock’s “Love Island.”
The cast will live “at the ultimate shore hose” in the Canary Islands and compete in party-style challenges, including “Party Pong” and “Shots and Found,” battling for a cash prize.
The show is the just one way Paramount+ is expanding its reality TV lineup. In February, the streaming service where “The Challenge: All Stars” and “The Real World Homecoming” live, announced that multiple more seasons of “The Challenge” are coming, including spinoffs in Argentina, Australia and the U.

For 37 seasons and counting, MTV’s “The Challenge” — formerly known as “Real World/Road Rules Challenge” — has been one of the most consistent reality competition shows on all of TV. It is full of complicated physical challenges, of course, but it also comes with plenty of interpersonal drama between players.
Ahead of the show’s 500th episode, Variety ranks the Top 20 seasons so far, plus looks back at the show that started it all.

ViacomCBS has restructured international operations following the closing of the merger in December, with two brand groups and three pan-regional management hubs reporting into ViacomCBS Networks International CEO David Lynn.
Lynn, who was promoted to head international in early 2017 after former global boss Bob Bakish was tapped to lead Viacom, pointed out that consolidating international flagship brands into two groups “will simplify our structure and more closely align our business with ViacomCBS’ U.S. brands, enabling us to share more content and resources across our different brands and extract maximum value from our content investment and libraries.”
The restructure sees ViacomCBS Networks International (Vcni) divided into an entertainment and youth arm and a kids and family division. There is also a further three-way geographic restructuring, with a UK and Australia division that includes responsibility for Ireland, New Zealand and Israel; a Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia (Emeaa) hub; and an Americas branch.

MTV Heads Back To University With Ad-Funded UK Reality Series ‘Re-Freshers Week’ From Elephant House
Exclusive: MTV is heading back to school as its latest international reality series sends a slew of 25-30 year olds back to university to relive their youth.
The Viacom-owned broadcaster has ordered Re-Freshers Week Presented by Strongbow, an ad-funded five-part series that is the latest reality series to emerge from the UK following Ex on the Beach and Geordie Shore.
Freshers week, which I have a feeling is an incredibly British phenomenon, is the first week that students attend university, when very little work is done but students meet each other for the first time and drink a lot of alcohol.
The show is being produced by Elephant House Studios, the company’s in-house production division that produces reality series such as Make or Break. It will see eight contestants living together once again in a student house and competing in tasks handed to them by different guest judges.

Gym. Tanning. Laundry. Ratings. The Situation, Snooki, J-Woww, Vinny, Pauly D and the rest have not only reunited for MTV, they’ve given the network a new ratings juggernaut.
More than five years after the original “Jersey Shore” ended its run, the new “Jersey Shore Family Vacation” has been an instant success for MTV — and just the latest example of TV’s never-ending success with nostalgia. As part of MTV’s attempt to recapture its old glory by tapping some familiar titles (see also: the return of “Trl” and the just-announced rebirth of “Yo! MTV International has greenlighted Single Af, a social-first format that will help celebrities find love.
It will play out across MTV's Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat accounts over two weeks in June/July before leading into an on-air series in November. "Single Af will take celebrities on a live social quest for love around the world that fans can follow and weigh in on over social," the Viacom unit said. "The catch? The singles must be up for anything and willing to play the dating game ‘the MTV way'." Among the featured personalities are MTV's Teen Mom star Farrah Abraham, Irish pop duo Jedward, MTV U.K.'s Geordie Shore star Marnie Simpson, English YouTube star Elliot Crawford, Australian drag star Courtney and London boy band alum Casey Johnson.

Can lovely, innocent Blind Date really exist in the same tawdry world as Take Me Out?
Blind Date is coming back this weekend. So much has changed since the 1980s, both on TV and in society itself, that what returns to our screens may not be a straight-forward, fully-intact teleport of the format, but rather a mutant mish-mash: a half-fly Jeff Goldblum of a show just begging to be put out of its misery. The truth of this inevitable transformation can be seen in the steps already taken up the light-entertainment evolutionary ladder, most notably in the DNA of ITV's long-running post-Blind Date offering, Take Me Out.
