The King of Horror’s works have become one of the greatest sources of the filmmakers’ inspiration, as numerous movies and TV titles, based on Stephen King’s novels, brought billions of dollars to the industry. Some of them have even gained worldwide popularity and the golden status and are being discussed and rewatched by fans annually.
These include the 1986 movie with a seemingly straightforward premise. It focuses on four young boys, Gordie, Vern, Chris and Teddy, hoping to become famous in their hometown by finding a dead body of a stranger accidentally killed in the Oregon woods.
Their journey towards the body, however, offers a bunch of unexpected turns, including the unpleasant encounters and the hostility of the wilderness. As they go further in the forest, they also learn more about one another and their very different home lives.

“The Vanished” is a Korean movie released in 2018, and categorized as Crime, Mystery, Thriller and Suspense, and is streaming on many platforms. This Korean drama is adapted from “The Body”, a 2012 Spanish Thriller/Mystery. ♦ Why is There No Body on the Slab in the Cooler? In “The Vanished”, detectives are called to a morgue because a security guard is babbling something about seeing a ghost, and the words coming out of his mouth are jumbled up, confused, and make no sense. Yet he insists he’s telling the truth about what happened. In morgues around the world, a dead body is often kept in a cooler (a refrigerated room), both before and after autopsies. The dead bodies are placed on a morgue slab, where they stay until the undertaker comes to pick them up Or they get transported somewhere else. The sliding slabs are kind of like drawers that you can open and close.

Wil Wheaton landed his first professional acting gig in 1981, appearing in the TV movie "A Long Way Home." He was nine years old. Wheaton was impressive enough to become one of Hollywood's more in-demand child actors, and the next five years of his life were immensely busy. He appeared in films like "The Defiant Ones" and "The Last Starfighter," and TV shows like "Highway to Heaven," "Family Ties," and "St. Elsewhere." It was nothing but an upward arc for the young performer.
Wheaton's first leading role came in 1986 with the release of Rob Reiner's 1950s nostalgia piece "Stand By Me," an adaptation of the Stephen King novella "The Body." In "Stand By Me," Wheaton played 12-year-old Gordie Lachance, a kid smarting from the recent death of his older brother and the familial resentment it caused. Gordie has three close friends -- played by Rover Phoenix, Corey Feldman, and Jerry O'Connell...

Many people would claim that Frank Darabont has made the best Stephen King adaptations ever put on film, but did you know that over a decade before making The Shawshank Redemption, it would be Stephen King himself who helped Frank Darabont become a filmmaker? Frank would use one of Stephen King’s infamous “Dollar Babies” where King would allow aspiring filmmakers to license one of his short stories for just $1. Darabont would adapt King’s short The Woman in the Room which would be short-listed for an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short film in 1983. Despite not getting the nomination, and not even particularly liking the short, King was a fan and for $5,000, granted Darabont the rights to adapt another of his short stories: Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption.
Of course, Darabont wasn’t quite ready to tackle something as massive as that story just yet, so he made...

This article contains spoilers for all of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the show titled after her are both cultural icons. Buffy is one of those series that most sci-fi, fantasy, and horror fans have some kind of awareness of even if they have never watched an episode. It kick-started the careers of Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy Summers, Alyson Hannigan as Willow Rosenberg, and David Boreanaz as Angel.
The series was also stuffed to the brim with memorable moments, from the hilarious (Buffy trying to mime staking a vampire in “Hush”), to the kick-ass (Buffy taking out the Judge with a rocket launcher in “Innocence”), to the gut-wrenching (Buffy finding Joyce in “The Body”). But there is one moment that stands out above all the others and embodies what the show is about.

Five upcoming Spanish TV fiction projects, involving top local production and distribution companies, feature in Coming Next from Spain, a showcase of series unspooling March 19 at Series Mania.
Atresmedia TV’s “Sanctuary,” Movistar+ Plus’ “Fine Arts,” Filmax’s “Dating in Barcelona” Season 2, The Good Mood-Mediawan’s “The Other Life” and Onza Distribution’s “Heartless” will be presented at the event, proving once more that Spanish fiction production is in good health.
Six years after high-end Spanish TV series lifted off on the global market, championed by hit series such as “Money Heist” and “Elite,” Spain has become one of the steadiest suppliers for worldwide platforms.
The successful trend continues as of today, with Mediaset España and Alea Media series “Wrong Side of the Tracks,” whose Seasons 1, 2 and 3 have reached the top 10 of most watched non -English TV fiction shows on Netflix for the period March 4-10, 2024, cumming 41.6 million hours viewed.

The cast of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" gave some of the best performances in teen soap history, and Kristine Sutherland's performance as Buffy's mother Joyce was no exception. Although Joyce was typically removed from the action of the show, she was a consistent presence in the first five seasons of the series before her character's tragic death. Buffy's mother was a protective force in her life before and after she discovered her true identity, and she was raising her all on her own.
Sutherland had portrayed a mother on screen before when landing the role of Joyce Summers, having played the supporting role of Mae Thompson in "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids." However, the actress found that her "Buffy" character offered new shades of complexity to the archetype of an onscreen mother. We see Joyce struggle between wanting to discipline Buffy and wanting, above all, to understand her. The...

Stephen King is inarguably one of the most adapted authors in the world. The reigning overlord of the horror genre has seen his work translated to film and TV almost continually since his first novel, Carrie, was adapted in 1976. While he’s had his ups and downs in terms of success in those venues, it’s almost a certainty that the King adaptations will continue as the author himself keeps working well into his sixth decade as a published writer.
Naturally, most of the adaptations of King’s work focus on his horror or horror-adjacent output: just about everything from 1,000-page behemoths like the post-apocalyptic The Stand to 10-page short stories like the single-setting monster tale “The Boogeyman” have found their way to the screen. But while filmmakers and creators gravitate toward the King material that they think will scare audiences – after all, that’s his brand – some of the...

Kiefer Sutherland plays a small but key character in 1986’s Stand By Me as bully Ace, who tries to foil the core group’s journey to discovering the corpse of Ray Brower…and entering a premature manhood. But behind the scenes, his role may have been far more important, as Sutherland says he was the one who inspired the movie’s title.
Based on Stephen King’s short story “The Body”, the original title was questioned because it apparently sounded more like a porno or a straight-up horror movie more akin to something that, well, Stephen King might write. Fortunately for the studio — and probably the film’s legacy overall — Kiefer Sutherland was adept at the guitar and tinkered around a bit while filming. As he told Jimmy Fallon on his late night show, “We were making Stand by Me, which was a Stephen King short story called ‘The Body...

Kiefer Sutherland is recalling a sweet anecdote from the set of Stand by Me and remembering his late co-star River Phoenix.
The 24 actor is looking back at his time while filming the Rob Reiner coming-of-age drama movie and shared a heartwarming story about Phoenix that also came to possibly influence the title of the film.
“We were making Stand by Me, which was a Stephen King short story called The Body, and River Phoenix was learning guitar and playing guitar and he was actually very, very good. And he was getting really good at a very, very fast rate,” Sutherland said during an interview on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. “And I was playing Stand by Me and singing that song, and he said, ‘Oh, I love the melody of that song,’ and he hadn’t heard it before.”

Well, it’s time to let the King have his moment again. "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" is fondly remembered for so many reasons. On the lighter side, it introduced us all to a valley-slang inspired dialect known as "Buffy speak" and gave us the enduringly heartwarming bonds between the members of the Scoobie Gang. But if "Buffy" was all jokes and wholesome fare, it wouldn't have become the cult hit it did, and it certainly wouldn't have gained a reputation for producing some of the best episodes of TV ever.
Just take a look at "The Body" from season 5. The episode opens with a one-take scene in which the titular slayer walks into her house to discover her mother's lifeless body laying on the couch. It's the episode show creator, "Avengers" director, and all-round prolific creative Joss Whedon considers the greatest thing he's ever done, and is also considered by many to be a standout moment in TV history generally.

Sony Pictures International Productions and Italy’s Eagle Pictures have announced psychological thriller “Il Corpo” (“The Body”), starring Claudia Gerini (“John Wick: Chapter 2”), as part of their local co-production partnership.
Principal photography recently wrapped on the film, which is co-written by its director Vincenzo Alfieri (“Mad Dog”) with Giuseppe G. Stasi, who recently made a splash in Italy as the writer and co-director of hit Amazon Prime Video series “The Bad Guy.”
Gerini (pictured in the first-look image above) plays a rich entrepreneur named Rebecca Zuin whose death, due to an alleged heart attack, raises suspicions on the part of a police inspector played by Giuseppe Battiston (“Perfect Strangers”) after her body disappears from the morgue. There aren't many directors quite like Rob Reiner, who has helmed a considerable number of beloved classics from across a variety of genres. His directorial debut was "This is Spinal Tap," a mockumentary considered by many to be one of the best ever made. "The Princess Bride" is a comedic fantasy romance that has been quoted for generations, while "When Harry Met Sally" has become a cultural phenomenon. There are serious films like "Misery" or "A Few Good Men," and his latest feature is "Albert Brooks: Defending My Life," a hilarious documentary about the life and career of one of America's greatest performers. But then there's "Stand By Me," the coming-of-age classic based on Stephen King's "The Body."
"Stand By Me" follows a friend group of pre-teen boys who go on the adventure of a lifetime over Labor Day Weekend 1959 to find the potential dead body of a missing boy.

Davis just uploaded a 37-minute video to YouTube for Halloween today wherein he shares 34-minutes of rare and never-before-seen outtakes from The Exorcist, and he guides us through the footage with a running commentary track that provides context and additional info.
The incredible video shared by Davis includes outtakes from the deleted Washington Sightseeing trip, the Spider-Walk, the legendary Pazuzu makeup test,...

There's one core memory that surely all fans of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" share. An entire generation was collectively traumatized when the 16th episode of "Buffy" season 5 arrived, and are likely still haunted by the image of poor old Joyce Summers (Kristine Sutherland) lying still on her living room couch. "The Body" was written and directed by series creator Joss Whedon, and begins with Buffy's mother dying of a brain aneurysm. It's the one "Buffy" episode Sarah Michelle Gellar still can't bring herself to watch, with the star telling Entertainment Weekly she "tried so hard to talk [Whedon] out of it."
But the show creator was intent on following through on his decision to kill off Joyce, especially because it related to his own experiences. As Whedon told EW: "I lost my mother when I was 27 in a car accident, and the intent was to capture just that first day, the sort of trapped-in-amber,...

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" might have left TV screens 20 years ago, but the exploits of the slayer and her compatriots didn't end in 2003. Take for instance how many of the events from the much-derided "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" movie were re-written back into Buffy lore, so to speak, in a 1999 comic book series by Dan Brereton and Christopher Golden entitled "The Origin." Co-signed by "Buffy" creator and showrunner Joss Whedon, "The Origin" basically retold the 1992 film in a way that fit Whedon's original vision and the show's tone. And that's just one of many Buffy tales that have been told outside of the show proper.
Now, Golden has teamed up with actress Amber Benson, who played Tara in "Buffy," for the new Audible original, "Slayers: A Buffyverse Story." This audio series further expands the Buffyverse by telling a story set 10 years after the events of the original series finale. "Slayers...

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" might have started out as a cult hit, but it's surely now reached the status of all-time-great TV show. The series lasted for a full seven seasons from 1997 to 2003 and while it has become complicated to love in the wake of startling accusations against showrunner and creator Joss Whedon, the show itself produced some of the best moments in TV history.
As it went on, "Buffy" dealt more and more with serious and weighty issues, making for some truly heartbreaking "Buffy" moments. By the time the fifth season rolled around, Whedon and co. were producing harrowing and affecting explorations of grief with such classics as "The Body," which opens with an unforgettable one-take sequence in which Buffy's mom dies. Joss Whedon still considers that episode the best thing he's ever done.

William Friedkin’s horror classic The Exorcist turns 50 years old here in 2023, and the film’s raw power is felt as much today as it was all those decades ago. One of the most enduring images of the 1973 masterpiece is the face of the demon Pazuzu, played by Eileen Dietz.
The image flashes on the screen multiple times throughout The Exorcist, turning Dietz into something of a horror icon in her own right. All these years later, rare footage from those Pazuzu makeup tests has surfaced, and it’s been shared by Paul Davis on social media.

If you've ever seen a list of the spookiest "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" episodes, you've probably seen installments such as "Nightmares" or "Buffy vs. Dracula" regularly cropping up. It also seems that fans are pretty much united in their view that the scariest episode of "Buffy" is "Hush."
There's no doubt those grinning villains, known only as "The Gentlemen," were a powerful image, and perhaps the most iconic antagonists of the entire series. The concept of the episode, too, is pretty unsettling, with all the residents of Sunnydale losing their voices, leaving them unable to scream as The Gentlemen go about their diabolical mission of extracting human hearts.
But there's one episode of "Buffy" that remains truly haunting in a way that "Hush," or any episode for that matter, never quite was. This one doesn't necessarily have a memorable villain, but it's about as creepy an episode of the show as you'll ever see.

Amid the U.S. industry’s historic double strike of actors and writers, a top Hollywood executive is weighing in on how the two sides could work to resolve the labor impasse.
“We want to find a deal. We need to come to a deal. Even if the newspapers wrote otherwise. We want to go back to the table and resolve this issue quickly,” Tony Vinciquerra, chief executive of Sony Pictures Entertainment, said during the Audio-Visual Producers Summit in Trieste, Italy on Friday.
“It’s not true that we don’t want to negotiate,” said the executive, referring to the failed talks with SAG-AFTRA, the actors’ union that has been on strike since July 13. “It’s exactly the opposite. We are sorry for the strike. We are aware of the importance of screenwriters and actors, who are key partners in the production of films and series. The problem must be solved.

In the early 1980s, Stephen King was officially a household name. Writer of such instantly memorable titles as “Carrie,” “The Shining” and “The Stand,” it was very unlikely to find someone who’d not read – or at least heard of – a Stephen King novel. The author was getting so big that pretty much anything he published landed on the number one spot of the bestseller list. But would his devoted readers gobble up anything he put in front of them? That was put to the test in the middle of 1982, when King convinced his publisher to put out a collection of four novellas he’d written in between novels. The stories had some macabre elements in them, and one did indeed feature a bit of the old supernatural, but for the most part these stories were dramas that dealt with the human condition. The collection was called “Different Seasons,” and...

New Delhi, June 26 (Ians) For someone who has worked with the likes of Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Manna Dey, Jagjit Singh and has contributed to the soundtracks of popular movies including ‘Page 3’, ‘The Body’ and the recently released Nawazuddin Siddiqui-Bhumi Pednekar starrer ‘Afwaah’, the paradigm shift in Hindi film music is hard to ignore.
Music composer Shamir Tandon points out, “Now, films have fewer songs and there is no lip-synching. In fact, some films are songless. There are not many situations that warrant a music number. The duration of songs has been reduced too. It may appear for a few seconds and then fade out, unlike the past when multiple ‘antras’ would play.”
The music composer, who has worked with Sudhir Mishra in the past too, tells Ians that it is always a pleasure associating with the latter as he has a clear vision and does not stick to tried-and-true concepts,...

The once-and-future pop queen Debbie Gibson goes for a classic Seventies disco trip in her excellent new video for “Love Don’t Care.” It’s part of a triumphant musical rebirth for the “Electric Youth” legend, getting her mirrorball groove on with a very Cher flamboyance. “Love Don’t Care” is a dance banger from her 2021 comeback album, The Body Remembers, with a wide-open inclusive spirit. It’s a message that love isn’t restricted by boundaries of gender, age, race, or sexuality. It’s also proof that Debbie’s electric youth is timeless.

Jimmy Page and Keith Richards didn’t cross paths much in the 1970s. After all, the guitarists stayed busy with their bands, Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones. Maybe you’ve heard of them (sarcasm font). Richards didn’t like Zep, but he respected Page and tried to get him drunk when he played on a Stones song in the 1980s.

You know a TV death is sad when years later, you can still get a lump in your throat just thinking about it.
These deaths are like that.
In some cases, it's how the character went out that caused all the pain. The injustice of seeing such a great character meet a terrible end, a heroic character going out beautifully.
In other cases, it is the reaction of everyone around the character that gets the wracking sobs going.
These are the deaths that ripped our hearts out. Which ones got to you?

Internationally sourced programming and stories placed alongside local content could be a solution to bring audiences back to Indian cinemas, a high-powered panel debated.
The panel was part of Indiantelevision.com’s annual industry event, The Content Hub, that recently concluded in Mumbai. Mayank Shroff, head of film distribution at Cinepolis, the Indian division of Latin American exhibition giant Cinepolis, said that while footfalls were back to 85% of pre-pandemic days, an innovative approach is required to bring the rest of the audiences back.
Shroff pointed to the success of Makoto Shinkai’s anime film “Suzume,” which accounted for 20% of the Cinepolis box office over the past weekend and “Evil Dead Rise,” which also pulled in decent numbers, both in the face of stiff competition from Eid holiday release “Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan,” starring superstar Salman Khan. [This article contains spoilers for the April 9 episode of Succession.]
“You are what you do, Logan. In the end, you’re just what you do.”
Those words represent the cruelest thing Frank (Peter Friedman) can think to say to Brian Cox’s Logan Roy in the pilot for HBO’s Succession. Logan has just told Frank that, after 35 years of service, he’s being pushed into a secondary role, in part because Logan is considering which of his reprobate children will be taking over his corporate empire.
In the end, you’re just what you do.
Frank’s job was saved because, of course, the Succession pilot ends with Logan experiencing a brain hemorrhage on one of the family’s private helicopters — one of several times in the show’s run that Logan’s demise was approached asymptotically but never reached.
Death, though, is not an asymptote. Sunday night’s Succession was a shocking gut-punch of an episode, but...

When was the last time an episode of a horror show made you cry? HBO Max’s thrilling The Last of Us already had us on the edge of our seats through its first turbocharged episodes, set 20 years into a post-apocalypse, after the world as we knew it was destroyed by a fast-spreading fungal infection that turned people into monsters. So far so scary, but what we never expected was how deeply human this creature-feature series based on a popular video game would soon turn out to be. In the extraordinary 75-minute third episode, titled “Long, Long Time” after the 1970 Linda Ronstadt ballad that plays a significant role, the series’ nonstop action takes a pause. Growing up in England, I hadn't realized that "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" was a WB show. I used to watch it on BBC 2 -- at 6:45 pm right after "The Simpsons" -- but in retrospect, it makes some sense that it came from the same U.S. channel that gave us "One Tree Hill."
The thing is, aside from the horror element often being genuinely frightening, there was a maturity to the storytelling in "Buffy," and a persistent undercurrent of profound tragedy that I just didn't associate with WB teen dramas. The harm and heartache that befall Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar) throughout the show are pretty relentless, and mostly a result of something she had no say in — being the slayer. As such, every season was infused with this lingering sense of tragedy that made the show much more than an excuse for teen melodrama — though, there was plenty of that,...

Stephen King's work is consistently praised for taking everyday situations and turning them on their heads in a horrific way. One of the ways he accomplished this was by building up the world around the story. He created the fictional town of Castle Rock to ground his work and give the reader a sense of familiarity. It stands in for just about any small town in the United States. While King throws in his usual Maine touch, it has parts that everyone can identify with.
Since there have been numerous adaptations of King's work, the town of Castle Rock has had its share of on-screen appearances that can shape a story of the town without the movies even being related. This creates a way to tie movies together through the evolution of recurring characters to show the changes that Castle Rock itself has gone through.

"Hush" is the scariest episode of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," and I will fight any naysayers on that. "The Body," where Buffy's mom dies, is the saddest and most impactful, in my opinion, but this one ... creepy, smiling men that float towards you, steal your voice, and then stab you ... there is no way to watch this and not shudder. I apologize for any nightmares the picture above gives you. I assure you, I have already collected all my old stuffed animals, checked under my bed for odd boxes, and turned on every light in the house.
If you haven't watched the tenth episode of the fourth season, I implore you not to do it alone. In "Hush," everyone is dealing with communication issues. Jordan Peele is extremely proud of his “new friendship” with Corey Feldman, after having been an extreme fan of the former child actor.
The two worked together recently on the Oscar-winning Nope director’s upcoming film series, The Lost Rider: A Chronicle of Hollywood Sacrifice, for New York City’s Lincoln Film Center.
Running from 5 January through 14 January, the event will feature screenings of Peele’s newest thriller and an “assortment of films that serve as a guide to understanding Nope’s thematic interests”.
Speaking about the event, during a Thursday (5 January) night appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Peele shared that it would include Feldman’s 1986 adventure drama Stand By Me and 1984 slasher Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter.
Host Myers reminded Peele that they had talked about Feldman the last time he appeared on the show, with the Get Out director proudly announcing: “So I have a...

Even after all the years since "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" premiered in 1997 — even with the recent controversy surrounding creator Joss Whedon — even as dated as some of the content and jokes are, the show endures as the forebearer to so many TV and film heroines. Veronica Mars (Kristen Bell), Wynonna Earp (Melanie Scrofano), and Bo (Anna Silk) from "Lost Girl" all owe quite a bit to Buffy Summers.
Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) herself was influenced by a comic book character — Kitty Pryde of X-Men fame. Whedon called her "a huge proto-Buffy" in a 2005 interview with Time and "the mother of Buffy" in a Wired article from 2012. If any other Buffy fans want to take a moment to pour one out for Joyce Summers (Kristine Sutherland) — Buffy's actual mother — who died unceremoniously in the powerful episode "The Body," please do. I still have to skip that one during my rewatches of the series.

In 1982, Stephen King released a collection known in the film industry as a magic book. Different Seasons consists of four novellas each linked to a season of the year and contains the source material for some of Hollywood’s most successful films. The collection’s third novella, The Body is the inspiration for Rob Reiner’s Stand By Me and the first, Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, was adapted into Frank Darabont’s film (with a shortened title) which still holds the highest ranking on IMDb. The only story that has yet to be adapted is the fourth novella, The Breathing Method, a Christmas Story about a horrifying miracle birth. Though aligned with summer, the second story in the collection, Apt Pupil, is easily the darkest. Subtitled Summer of Discontent, Apt Pupil tells the story of Todd Bowden, a teenager who blackmails his neighbor–a former Nazi hiding in...
