Bradley Cooper and his mother, who last year raised eyebrows with a no-frills commercial for T-Mobile, are making a new play. In their 2024 effort, the actor and his mother are among a bevy of famous faces auditioning for “magenta status,” a membership perks-and-discounts plan. Laura Dern, Gabriel Macht, Common, Patrick J. Adams and Jennifer Hudson are among those trying to win the rewards.
Participants in the commercial were “thinking about all that every actor has ever gone through auditioning,” says Dern, via emailed comments and “just enjoyed making each other laugh.” The concept, she adds, was devised by “my dear buddies Bradley and Gloria Cooper and our mutual friend Brian Klugman” an executive at Panay Films, which worked on the campaign. An aspiring writer recently graduated from Oxford descends upon the gloomy countryside estate of revered author J.M. Sinclair for a summer gig tutoring his son. Naturally, the young man, Liam, arrives bearing an unfinished manuscript with which he plans to impress his hero, but if there’s anything to be taken away from this “exquisitely made chamber piece”, it’s that meeting your idols isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
Though the house overflows with contemporary art curated by Sinclair’s wife, Hélène, and light that pours in through floor-to-ceiling windows, sorrow echoes between its hallways and behind its locked doors. Two years earlier, we learn, the Sinclairs’ eldest drowned himself on the property, a trauma that sent J.M. into professional hiatus. Albeit for very different reasons, Liam’s arrival is just what the family has been waiting for, and he soon finds himself tangled...

Bradley Cooper is known for his roles in films such as “Limitless,” “A Star is Born” and “Silver Linings Playbook.” On Sunday, T-Mobile hopes he will be recognized for his work in one of their Super Bowl commercials.
In the spot, Cooper tries to sell his mother, Gloria, on T-Mobile telecom services, but their banter gets in the way. Cooper’s mother pokes fun at his wardrobe, the script and her ability to deliver her lines — all of which keep the actor laughing. In the meantime, the duo does manage to rattle off a number of features that might interest the crowd watching at home.
The ad marks Cooper’s first turn acting in a Super Bowl commercial and is believed to be his first work in a national ad campaign.

In 2013, Bradley Cooper starred as a police officer in one of his most critically acclaimed films Place Beyond the Pines. But the movie’s content might have initially discouraged Cooper from taking the part.
How Bradley Cooper was first cast in ‘Place Beyond the Pines’ Bradley Cooper | Cindy Ord/WireImage
The Hangover was a crucial part in making Cooper the megastar he is today. To date, it’s one of Cooper’s most successful films, enjoying both critical and financial acclaim. But it also nearly stopped him from scoring a starring role in another well-received feature.
Cooper has occasionally had some directors underestimate his acting abilities, or even question his personality due to his performances. He once had a difficult time breaking away from his image as a nice guy with no edge due to his Alias character for instance. This theme would reappear again when he was considered for...

Peter Frampton delivers an instrumental rendition of Roxy Music’s classic “Avalon” as the latest offering from the guitarist’s Frampton Forgets the Words, a collection of instrumental covers.
Frampton and his band’s version doesn’t stray too far from the 1982 original, with his guitar a stand-in for Bryan Ferry’s inimitable vocals.
“The original is such a perfect piece of music,” Frampton said of the cover in a statement. “I really wanted to get as close to the vocal inflection as I could, and I think I almost did it!

Cannes — Hong Kong’s Star Alliance Movies has pounced on all rights to China on “Blast,” a race against the clock thriller that marks the first full production from Wide, Loic Magneron’s Paris-based sales-production-distribution company.
The deal, made against a background of slowing sales to China, represents the first pre-sale on “Blast,” which is now in post-production.
Billed as an “electrifying thriller” “with an amazing cast and credits” – the film is lensed, for instance, by Luc Besson cinematographer Thierry Arbogast -“Blast” turns on a young mother, Sonia, a bomb disposal expert just back from a mission in the Ukraine, trapped in her car with son and the daughter of her boyfriend Fred, who is left outside, powerless to deal with the situation. Colleagues Igor and Camille, hurry to the scene. With Sonia and Fred have 30 minutes to diffuse the bomb and work out who could behind the attack.

The art of being a movie star includes good timing. Take the American Cinematheque Tribute to Bradley Cooper on Thursday night. These events usually burnish star luster, as in the case of recent recipients Amy Adams, Matt Damon, or Matthew McConaughey. But when such a tribute unfolds at the height of an Oscar campaign, it can move the needle. “A Star Is Born” scored Best Director and Actress at the National Board of Review this week, which reflects the movie’s current status as the frontrunner for Best Picture, Actress, and Actor at awards site Gold Derby.
These events are carefully curated. Warner Bros. put this event in motion two years ago, with the fall 2018 release date of “A Star Is Born” in mind. And while Cooper self-deprecatingly mocked the huge posters and program covers all around the Beverly Hilton ballroom — in George-Clooney style — when I greeted him at his table,...

Bradley Cooper’s friends and colleagues gathered at the Beverly Hilton on Thursday night to salute his career as he was presented with the American Cinematheque’s 2018 Sid Grauman Award.
“When we do these Q&As and things together, sometimes you call me Gaga, but we both know that you call me Stefani,” Cooper’s “A Star Is Born” co-star Lady Gaga said, fighting back tears. “I ran from Stefani for a long time, and I put on a superhero cape and called myself Lady Gaga. He challenged me to deep dive into a place where I had to see her again. Where I had to be Stefani again.”
“I’m so grateful to you, not just for making me a better actress,” she added, “But I’m so grateful that, not have I only been able to call you as a professional, but I’ve been able to call on you as a friend.

Chef Boyardee: Wells Fails with Filmmaking Recipe
For his third film outing, director John Wells delves into the catty universe of high-end cuisine with Burnt (formerly titled Adam Jones for its lead character) with the same square generalities formulating the emotionless energy of previous dramas August: Osage County and The Company Men. Bradley Cooper once again plays a smug playboy, one of those confused personalities charged with simultaneous duties as narcissistic tyrant and charismatic romantic lead.
Attempting to extol the high-stakes wheeling and dealing of the fine-dining universe, it’s a film professing to depict the elegance and privilege of a specific scene but couldn’t be any more thanklessly banal. Much like another Bradley Cooper vehicle, the literary minded The Words (2012), the subject matter is sidelined by standard issue formulaic tropes, satisfying every conceivable audience expectation.

This year's list of Best Picture Oscar nominees for me has been one of the most eclectic lineups in years. While some of the choices (not to mention some of the omissions) have caused some stirring, the fact remains that each film is a unique peek into areas of society and life that are never anything but true and compelling. Though I feel there were a couple noticeable snubs (Gone Girl, A Most Violent Year, Nightcrawler), this is one of the few years where it could be said that every film on the list has earned its place. In celebration of these movies' triumphs, I've compiled a list of additional viewing choices made by some of the actors, actresses, directors, writers and producers who were responsible for this year's nominated films.
The Words (2012)
Few films surprised this year in terms of both acclaim and box office impact the way American Sniper (2014) did.

His 2006 novel, Cell, is a cautionary tale about what can go wrong by pressing portable phones to our ears and keeping them close at hand in our pockets, and its unflinching subject matter contains flocks of murderous lunatics that would be right at home in Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later, George A. Romero’s The Crazies, or Simon Clark’s Blood Crazy.
We knew this unique King novel was getting the adaptation treatment, with King co-writing the screenplay and John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson in the lead roles, but we’re now one big step closer to seeing it on the silver screen, as Clarius Entertainment has acquired the Us rights to the movie.

First of all, Happy Holidays everyone. For this week’s new spotlight piece, I wanted to cite a modern A-lister who also happens to have some classical charm to him. It’s Bradley Cooper, a newly minted leading man who’s continuing to impress the more we get to see from him. He was once considered a pretty boy of sorts, someone you’d never expect to be an Oscar favorite, but in the span of less than a decade, he’s gone from a lightweight to an absolute A-list star, one who’s now considered basically due for an Academy Award. As such, he’s more than a perfect candidate for the spotlight today. Cooper got his start mostly on television (though he did appear in the film Wet Hot American Summer), showing up in things like Sex and the City, where he made his debut. There were also...

"It was bliss." The single stunner was seen smooching Perego at a Star Trek Into Darkness afterparty in May. It didn't take long for the pair to realize that they were meant to be. "I met...

Spending time on stage with the man who was Walter White was not nearly enough Breaking Bad-adjacent action for Michael McKean. He’s just signed on for a co-starring role in the show’s spin-off, Better Call Saul. The series, created and run by Bad boss Vince Gilligan and Saul creative parent Peter Gould, looks to follow the wise-cracking, money-grabbing lawyer as played by Bob Odenkirk. It’ll serve as a prequel, showing what he got up to before (and potentially during) the time that Walter White entered his life.McKean is apparently playing a character called Dr. Thurber, a formerly brilliant lawyer now troubled by a strange affliction. He’s joining Jonathan Banks, who will be breathing new life into grumpy fixer Mike Ehrmantraut in the show, which is scheduled to air in the Us from this November.Aside from theatre duties, where he’s appearing alongside Bryan Cranston in All The Way,...

Vin Diesel ‘Riddick’ box office: Underwhelming domestic debut Universal’s distribution chief Nikki Rocco may have called Riddick‘s opening-weekend figures "a great result," but an estimated $18.7 million from 3,107 North American theaters — $2.5 million of that total from 314 IMAX locations — for an action-packed sequel starring Vin Diesel is a disappointing debut. In fact, if studio estimates for the September 6-8, 2013, weekend are on target, Riddick‘s per-theater average barely surpassed the $6,000 mark: $6,010 per location, to be exact. And even though it’s true that the weekend after Labor Day tends to be pathetically slow at the U.S./Canada box office, and that this year’s top-ten figures were 29% above last year’s, Riddick‘s box-office gross undeniably fell below expectations. (Photo: Vin Diesel in Riddick.) Box office pundits, for instance, had been predicting an opening north of $20 million for the $38 million-budgeted, independently financed sci-fi actioner. And Riddick‘s opening-weekend gross...

Bradley Cooper and Zoe Saldana are getting back together…on screen. The former couple, who called it quits right before the holidays in 2012, are reuniting for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, an action flick that follows a pilot and his team of aliens as they battle cosmic threats, according to Deadline. Lee Pace, Djimon Hounsou, Benicio del Toro, John C. Reilly and Glenn Close are also set to star in the film. This is the second film Cooper and Saldana have starred in together, with their romance kicking off in 2010 after meeting on the set of their drama flick, The Words. Both of the actors have moved on since their split, with Cooper romancing model Suki Waterhouse and Saldana...

Hey, why not. They got Vin Diesel to voice a talking alien tree, why not get Bradley Cooper to voice a talking, gun-toting space raccoon? The news comes courtesy of LatinoReview, who quotes unnamed sources as saying that Marvel has made the offer to Bradley Cooper’s reps for the actor to be the voice of Rocket Raccoon in James Gunn’s upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy”. If he signs up, Cooper would be re-teaming with former girlfriend Zoe Saldana, the two having previously worked together on “The Words”. Well, sorta re-teaming. I doubt if they’ll actually end up on the same set, though. Or however Hollywood is doing voice work these days. Rocket Raccoon, like Groot, will be completely CGI. If you need a frame of reference, just imagine Yoda from the “Star Wars” prequels, but brown. And furry. And going around shooting people instead of talking in wacky speech patterns.

If you're sensing the onset of a little headline déjà vu, don't worry. You totally have heard something along these lines before.
Earlier this year, Bradley Cooper was rumored to be in contention for the lead in an upcoming Lance Armstrong biopic, but while he admitted to being totally intrigued by the story, he also dismissed any talk of being selected for the sure-to-be-iconic role as "nuts" (we're not sure if that pun was intentional or not).
Now, Deadline claims Cooper is in talks to star in another Armstrong-centric movie altogether as either Armstrong himself or Tyler Hamilton, the shamed cyclist's former teammate who blasted him out on national television for doping.
Yep, B. Coop might've gotten an email or two from J.J. Abrams about his in-the-works adaptation of Juliet Macur's book "Cycle of Lies: The Fall of Lance Armstrong" over at Paramount Pics. — the first Livestrong-esque part he was...

This year's Sundance Film Festival may not have produced a "Little Miss Sunshine"-sized breakout yet, but just over six months after the festival wrapped, this year's crop already has outdone last year's at the box office.
