Prolific producer Mark Gordon is setting sail with a new production company, Mark Gordon Pictures.
The venture is backed by Entertainment One, where Gordon served as president until July 2019 in the wake of friction with the group. Chris Pratt has spent most of the last decade in the once-unlikely position as one of Hollywood’s biggest breakout movie stars. However, despite a budding big-budget backlog, the A-lister is also planning a return to the medium on which he got his start: television.
This past February, Pratt signed on for a television project titled The Terminal List, on which he’ll serve as headlining star and executive producer. The project, which adapts the conspiracy thriller novel of the same name by Jack Carr, will see Pratt joined behind the camera by Antoine Fuqua, who is set to direct and executive-produce the pilot. The gig facilitates a reunion, due to Pratt’s co-starring role in Fuqua’s 2016 remake of The Magnificent Seven. With the key creative ducks in their proverbial row, the project now has a platform.

Even horror maestro Eli Roth can’t escape the box office pull of a good, old-fashioned video game film adaptation. The filmmaker, best known for directing slashers like “Hostel” and “The Green Inferno,” is now turning his attention to another fan-friendly genre: extremely popular video games. Roth will next direct a big screen adaptation of “Borderlands,” the first-person shooter game that hinges on daring adventure scenarios that take place on the planet Pandora (no relation to “Avatar”). It’s Roth’s latest move beyond horror films, as the filmmaker last directed the unexpectedly family-friendly fantasy film “The House With a Clock in Its Walls” in 2018.
“Borderlands” is one of the world’s most successful video game franchises, with more than 57 million units sold worldwide, including over 22 million units of “Borderlands 2.” The most recent installment, “Borderlands 3,” was released in September 2019, and has already sold nearly 8 million units worldwide and was honored...

Entertainment One (eOne) has signed Ben Forkner to a first-look deal on all film, scripted and unscripted television, and new media projects. Forkner previously served as the President of Motion Picture Production at Management 360 where he worked with clients on matters relating to intellectual property, film and television development, financing, and production.
The first project under Forkner’s new deal will be the sci-fi thriller, Salvation Day, a feature adaptation based on the novel by geo-physicist turned novelist Kali Wallace. Karl Gajdusek, who co-wrote The King’s Man prequel with Matthew Vaughn, is attached to adapt the screenplay.

Everyone sees the world in different colors, and that’s exactly what Shonali Bose’s “The Sky Is Pink” wants to convey — that you shouldn’t let yourself be boxed in.
“The Sky Is Pink” chronicles the love story — a true story — of a couple over the span of 25 years through the eyes of their terminally ill daughter. Priyanka Chopra Jonas stars. In one scene, Aditi (Chopra) calls her four-year-old son, who tells her he got in trouble with his teacher for painting the sky pink. A lovely mother-son moment ensues where she tells him to see the world the way he wants to.
“You can’t live life according to other people — you have to live life to the fullest every moment and don’t be boxed in and let yourself be judged,” Bose told TheWrap’s Beatrice Verhoeven at the Toronto International Film Festival.

“Coyote” follows Agent Ben Clemens (Chiklis) who, on the day of his mandatory retirement from the United States Border Patrol, discovers an illicit tunnel used to mainline black market goods into the United States from Mexico. Change comes slowly, at least in Hollywood. In its latest study, “Inclusion in the Director’s Chair? Gender, Race & Age of Directors across 1,000 films from 2007-2017,” the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative identified that, of a total of 109 film directors associated with the 100 top movies of 2017, a full 92.7% were male and 7.3% were female. It’s a slight uptick over the percentages that cover the last 11 years and 1,100 movies, which found that 95.7% of all directors were male and 4.3% were female. You can read the full report right here.
Most of these movies, of course, come from the studio world, the home of the big blockbusters, the major moneymakers, and the kind of opportunities that continue to elude the vast majority of female filmmakers working in the contemporary era. The Saint might be headed back to the big screen, with Chris Pratt in the lead role.
Chris Pratt is in early negotiations with Paramount Pictures to take the lead in a new movie reboot of The Saint. According to Deadline, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is aiming to bring Simon Templar back, with Pratt the current frontrunner for the role.
Created by Leslie Charteris in a series of books in the 1920s, Templar is a super-suave, ultra-charming vigilante – sort of like an unofficial James Bond without an official licence to kill. The books were first adapted into a radio series and a string of films in the 1940s, but the character became most well known in the 1960s thanks to Roger Moore’s starring role in the long-running British TV series.
Then came the 1997 Val Kilmer movie… While it wasn’t actually that bad, the film changed...

With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 on hold, Chris Pratt is in talks to star in an action thriller from writer/director Taylor Sheridan.

Talks have begun for Pratt to star in a Warner Bros. action film, tentatively titled Fast, reports Variety. The film is written by Taylor Sheridan, who’s also set to direct, joined by veteran producer David Heyman. The plot of the film is touting interagency conflict,...

Universal Pictures signed its financing and distribution deal with Legendary Entertainment in 2013, with two things in mind: Money and China. And Jeff Shell, chairman of Universal’s Filmed Entertainment Group, said Thursday during the Bank of America Merril Lynch media, communications and entertainment conference that the studio no longer needs either from Legendary.
“There were two reasons we did the Legendary deal originally: One was it was a pure financing deal and the second was at the time they were bringing big original movies that we had not shown an ability in the past at Universal to do successfully,” Shell said.

Exclusive: Might there be a glimmer of hope for change of heart in the quick banishment of Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn from the Magic Kingdom? Nobody is talking about it, but sources said that back channel conversations are taking place between Marvel Studios and Disney. Sources said the Marvel contingent is trying to persuade Disney to explore a compromise that might bring Gunn back into the fold for Guardians 3, something that clearly would be best for the franchise. There is no clash or strong arming here. I’m told it’s a discussion that comes in the wake of the whole cast declaring their loyalty to Gunn, whose abrupt exit has put a thriving film franchise in a rocky place. One would have to label this 11th hour approach to be a long shot, but the community is talking about it.

It looks like Universal is pumping the brakes on their upcoming big-budget blockbuster “Cowboy Ninja Viking,” which is set to star Chris Pratt, and have delayed the production right before filming was to begin. And surprisingly, it’s not because the title is horrible.
Collider says that the Pratt-led film is removed from their 2019 release schedule, but not canned completely. “Cowboy Ninja Viking” is still being listed as in active development and the delay is only “to accommodate production scheduling.” However, THR reports that there have been growing concerns over the script since March.

Universal Pictures has taken the Chris Pratt-led tentpole “Cowboy Ninja Viking” off its schedule and undated the movie, which was set to release on June 28, 2019.
Sources tell Variety that the film is still in active development with Pratt, Priyanka Chopra, and director Michelle MacLaren still on board. It will be re-dated at a later time to accommodate production scheduling. Insiders say the studio delayed the film rather than rushing it out to make the June 28 deadline. A source close to the situation compared it to “The Mummy’s” rushed production schedule.
“Cowboy Ninja Viking” is based on the Image Comics graphic novel by A.J. Lieberman and illustrator Riley Rossmo. It was adapted by Dan Mazeau (“Wrath of the Titans”) and Ryan Engle (“The Commuter”). Craig Mazin wrote an earlier draft of the screenplay with an original version by “Deadpool” writers Paul Wernick and Everett David Reese.

Known for her work on big budget series like Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Westworld, The Leftovers and The Walking Dead, Michelle MacLaren will take a seat in the director's chair. The hiring of MacLaren demonstrates that Universal Pictures is still very intent on making Cowboy Ninja Viking happen after the film was first announced in 2014. Pratt signed onto the conceit then, which is based off an Image Comics property, while fresh off making waves in Guardians Of The Galaxy but before Jurassic World.
