First, my opinion of Kanye West's Runaway is completely unbiased. I normally listen to indie rock, never voluntarily listened to Kanye and never gave it much thought.
Then I stumbled across his website and began to watch the video. I was immediately curious. The story line was intriguing. Slightly confusing at first, but I was definitely interested. The effects were aesthetically pleasing. Selita Ebanks did an amazing (and very sexy) job as The Phoenix. Runaway is a work of art. I would consider it Hip Hops version of (Pink Floyd's) The Wall.
Kanye did a fantastic job. It's not a stereo typical rap video of big booty women, expensive cars and random pit bulls. It's very well thought out, well written, well edited, well acted and the music is amazing.
I also feel the ballerinas should be mentioned as well because that particular scene was incredible and I can't begin to describe it.
I highly recommend watching it for yourself so you can make your own opinion.
