Somewhere in New Orleans’ Irish Channel, “The Channel” to its residents, Jamie wakes up from nightmares about his time in Afghanistan and gives his baby girl to her grandmother before hopping into a van like any other man heading off to work. And he is on his way to work, but the job site is a bank that he, his brother Mic, and several other ex-Marine buddies are about to rob.
It should be easy for a well-disciplined and heavily armed group of men. Get in, beat the vault code out of the manager, grab the cash and get out before anyone can react. Instead, the cops are waiting for them when they leave the building. The ensuing shootout leaves cops and robbers dead and...

Three VOD charts and Netflix’s top 10 all resulted in films set in non-Earth planetary worlds leading the pack in home viewing. “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” (Disney) is #1 on VOD (at $19.99) at iTunes, Google Play, and Vudu, while “65,” four months after its theatrical release and multiple weeks scoring on VOD, tops Netflix’s movie chart.
“Galaxy” had a two-month window, as Disney increasingly slows down its initial home releases (“Avatar: The Way of Water” waited 100 days), and then to PVOD, not streaming. It was dominant enough that it led Vudu’s revenue-based list, even though it was only available for three of the seven days of their full-week rankings.

"You promised to keep us safe. You didn't." Saban Films has launched an official trailer for another of these junk action thrillers called Shrapnel, on VOD to watch in late July. This is the third film out this year from a filmmaker you've never heard of named William Kaufman - his other two are The Channel and Warhorse One. None of these films do anything unique or different. In this one, when Sean's daughter goes missing on the Mexican border, he teams up with his former Marine partner to face off against the Mexican cartel that kidnapped her. Oh, how original. The film stars Jason Patric as Sean, with Cam Gigandet, Kesia Elwin, Mauricio Mendoza, and Guillermo Iván. This looks so boring and so dumb. "Whether she's alive or not, nobody's gettin' out of there." Does anyone even watch these movies? Please don't waste any time or money. // Continue Reading...

"You've always wanted a warrior's death..." So why not go out shootin'? Brainstorm Media has revealed an official trailer for The Channel, yet another generic action thriller heading to VOD day-and-date this year. The film is from the same filmmaker who made Warhorse One also out this year - William Kaufman. After their bank heist goes wrong, a desperate criminal, his out-of-control brother, and their motley crew of armed ex-marines must escape New Orleans and the determined FBI agent who is pursuing them. Clayne Crawford and Max Martini star as the two criminals on the run. The cast also includes Nicoye Banks, Juliene Joyner, Todd Jenkins, and Paul Rae. Not only is all this derivative, none of this looks good. One more boring guns vs. feds thrillers, only for those still into this kind of movie. // Continue Reading ›...

Exclusive: Premiere Entertainment has snapped up world rights to the action-thriller Mr-9: Do Or Die, starring Frank Grillo, Michael Jai White, and Abm Sumon.
Filmmaker Asif Akbar directed the film from a screenplay he co-wrote with Nazim Ud Daula and Abdul Aziz. The film is based on the popular spy thriller novels by the late Bangladeshi writer Qazi Anwar Hussain. Hussain published 550 novels in the series, which was modeled after the James Bond series. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but we understand Sumon plays the lead character Masud Rana, a secret agent under the codename Mr-9 for the Bangladesh Counter Intelligence Agency.
Bangladesh-based Jaaz Multimedia, Al Bravo Films, and Chasing Butterflies Pictures have teamed up for the production in association with The Film Post. Executive producers are Niko Foster, Peter Nguyen and Phillip B. Goldfine. The pic is currently in post-production and was shot last summer across Las Vegas,...
