- TriviaWhen Inspector Mallory meets Lord Hawthorne for the first time, he introduces himself using his proper rank - Detective Inspector. This is the first time in the entire series that any of the senior Kembleford police officers (Inspectors Valentine, Sullivan or Mallory) have referred to themselves by their correct rank and title. If they were regular inspectors, they would wear a uniform in the show.
- GoofsDuring the garden party, when Father Brown approaches Gabe Hawthorne who is sitting alone, a photographer with a very modern camera with a large lens can be seen in the far left of the picture.

Great episode.
Father Brown finds his position in Kembleford under threat, after he refuses to be influenced by a new resident, and man of power, Lord Hawthorne.
Very much in the style of Agatha Christie this one, the vibe of a Poirot or Marple, coupled with gorgeous visuals, strong characters, and an interesting lineup of characters. .
This story was both sad and absorbing, I loved the way that Father Brown himself was placed in such a precarious position.
Definitely an episode of firsts, this is the first time it's been just The Father and Mrs McCarthy, no Sid or Bunty etc, the first time we see The Father spend the bulk of an episode in plain clothes.
The Hawthornes were great characters, Matthew Marsh and Sara Stewart were both first rate here.
There will be a few comments about this one being a bit too BBC, but come on, it was a cracking mystery, 9/10.
