Paul is surprised to open the door finding Julia, Sunil's daughter-in-law. Julia has a bandage around one arm. She has come to inform Dr. Weston they have decided to end Sunil's therapy. He is quite surprised to learn about the change. Evidently, there was an altercation in the house when Sunil pushed Julia out of the way, and she fell on a bookcase where a loose nail wounded her, something that needed a hospital visit and three stitches.
Julia hands over a check for today's session and for the next one, to cover the cancellation fee. Julia is quite disturbed. She wants to express her opinion of what has been going under her roof ever since Sunil arrived from India. Family life, as far as she knew it, has been a living hell. Arun, her husband feels the same way. Julia wants to defend herself in order to clarify whatever false impression Sunil has told Paul. Julia feels therapy has not helped her father-in-law.
When Sunil enters the office, Paul apologizes because he did not have time to make tea, as is his custom, for Sunil. Paul wants to find out from his patient his side of the story. According to Sunil, it was just an accident that Julia blew out of proportion. Supposedly, Sunil was with his grandchildren in the family room where the kids were watching again a recording of their favorite animated feature, one that showcases a dancing fish. Sunil figured he wanted to share with the children a Bengali song that Kamala and him used to sing to Arun when they put him to sleep. That was what triggered Julia's anger and as she was trying to get the kids out, she tripped and fell, but nothing more happened. Sunil thought going to the emergency room was more than what the situation warranted.
Sunil is at peace with the decision about stopping therapy. He had brought a cricket bat he found in a park, asking Paul to keep it for him. Paul is surprised by this development. Deep in his mind something must have told him that Sunil was quite capable of using the bat to harm Julia, if the occasion arose. On the other hand, Paul thinks Sunil is a gentle soul, incapable to hurt anyone.
Paul wants to keep working with Sunil. In fact, he knows he had made progress. He even suggests to take Sunil as a pro bono patient. He even wants him to come back next week because it is already paid. Paul wants to go back to Sunil's dream, hoping the black woman figure is none other than Malini. Paul knows something painful is still bothering Sunil. Paul wants to be able to get to the bottom of it.
