The Star Wars franchise has introduced or featured many stars of today in pivotal roles. While actresses such as Keira Knightley and Natalie Portman gained worldwide fame for their roles in the prequel trilogy, one other actress who started out her Hollywood career was Insidious star Rose Byrne. The actress played a handmaiden in Attack of the Clones.
Though she was in the film for barely a few minutes, Byrne reportedly mentioned that she had a good time on set. She has since gone on to establish herself as a bankable actress with franchises such as X-Men and Insidious. However, she maintains that her most challenging role was her breakthrough film The Goddess of 1967.

The previous teasers for The Blackcoat's Daughter director Osgood Perkins' next feature, Longlegs, have been very effective in building an aura of unsettling dread around the mysterious horror flick, but this latest trailer really takes things to another level.
Though the movie is still playing things relatively close to the chest when it comes to revealing specific plot details, this footage does give us a little more to go on, as rookie FBI agent Lee Harker (It Follows star Maika Monroe) becomes obsessed with tracking down a sadistic serial killer (Nicolas Cage) who targets families - and might just have supernatural abilities.
Harker has a personal connection to the killer (did she survive an earlier attack?), which leads her down an even darker path and into the world of the Occult.

Filming is underway on The Possession of Gladstone Manor, the latest film from director K. Asher Levin – whose previous credits include the thriller Dig and the vampire movie Slayers, both of which starred Thomas Jane. Jane appears to be sitting this one out, but the cast does include horror icons Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator) and Lin Shaye (Insidious), as well as Caylee Cowan (Hypnotic), Jesse Metcalf (John Tucker Must Die), Charlotte Kirk (The Reckoning), Darren Weiss (Inside Man), and William Mapother (Blackhat). Levin wrote The Possession of Gladstone Manor with Danny Matier (The Unborn), working from a story by Addam Bramich. The film has the following synopsis: When Jamie Black discovers her mother has gone missing, she resolves to investigate by applying for the same job her mother held at Gladstone Manor. One of horror's most reliable franchises is coming back for a brand new installment next summer. While little has been revealed by way of specifics, Sony Pictures has dated "Insidious 6" for next summer. The film is now due to hit theaters on August 29, 2025, per Variety. Mark your calendars and plan accordingly, supernatural lovers of the world.
What's truly interesting is that this is just one of two new "Insidious" movies in the works at the moment. Sony and Blumhouse Productions are also collaborating on a spin-off titled "Thread: An Insidious Tale," which will star Mandy Moore ("47 Meters Down") and Kumail Nanjiani ("Eternals"). Jeremy Slater ("Moon Knight") set to write and direct. In short, the long-running franchise is expanding after taking a five-year break between 2018's "Insidious: The Last Key" and last year's "Insidious: The Red Door."
Dating back to director James Wan's original breakout hit "Insidious" in 2011, this franchise has been remarkably consistent.

Back in January of 2022, we heard that Insidious franchise creator James Wan was producing a “Back to the Future meets Aliens” project that was set to be written and directed by Jeremy Slater, creator of the The Exorcist television series and head writer on the Marvel / Disney+ show Moon Knight. As the Wan / Blumhouse collaboration Insidious: The Red Door, the fifth film in that series, made its way out into the world last year, it was revealed that Slater’s movie was a spin-off called Thread: An Insidious Tale, which had Mandy Moore (This Is Us) and Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals) on board to star in it. Now Deadline reports that Sony has announced an August 29, 2025 release date for the next Insidious movie – and since Thread already had a writer/director and stars attached by mid-2023, it seems logical that it would be the movie with the 2025 release date. But Deadline...

Sony has dated a new film in its Insidious horror franchise from Blumhouse Productions for release on August 29, 2025, the studio revealed Thursday evening.
No further details about the project were disclosed, but this is not the Jeremy Slater-helmed Thread: An Insidious Tale, a spin-off starring Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani, on which we were first to report.
Marking the sixth entry in the franchise, this new Insidious film comes on the heels of Insidious: The Red Door, an entry marking franchise star Patrick Wilson’s feature directorial debut, which grossed over $189 million at the worldwide box office.
Launching in 2010, the Insidious franchise from James Wan and Leigh Whannell delves into the theme of hauntings, primarily focusing on the existence of a malevolent realm known as “The Further.” This otherworldly dimension is inhabited by vengeful spirits and demons that seek to infiltrate the world of the living, often resulting in...

Universal Pictures has just announced (via Deadline) release dates – in some cases, new release dates for movies that are shifting around on their schedule – for five upcoming horror films… and every one of them happens to be a Blumhouse production. The movies in question are The Woman in the Yard, Drop, The Black Phone 2, M3GAN 2.0, and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 – and we’re about to go through them one-by-one.
First up is the thriller The Woman in the Yard, which was once set to reach theatres on January 10, 2025, but was bumped out of that date so the Blumhouse reboot of Wolf Man could move from this October to January 17th. Jaume Collet-Serra is directing the film, which stars Danielle Deadwyler of The Devil to Pay and Till, Okwui Okpokwasili of The Exorcist: Believer and I Am Legend, and Russell Hornsby of The Hate U Give and Fences.

Horror fans have been keeping a very close eye on director Osgood Perkins' next project, and the first social media reactions for the mysterious Longlegs are in.
These reactions are highly positive, and it sounds like the movie is a genuinely disturbing, terrifying experience.
Though Longlegs definitely seems to be keeping its biggest secrets firmly under wraps for the time being (and the teasers are all the better for it), we do know that the plot revolves around a rookie FBI agent (It Follows star Maika Monroe) attempting to track down a sadistic serial killer (Nicolas Cage) who targets families.
Cage's character has largely been kept out of the marketing, aside from one unsettling shot.
Check out the social media posts below, and keep an eye out for a new trailer.

MCU has quite a slate of movies coming up, even though Marvel Studios has hit a rough patch with the last couple of projects. There have been talks about releasing fewer projects, as fans are definitely becoming tired of shows and movies of lower quality; still, if one character always managed to drag people to movies, it’s Spider-Man, by far the most profitable Marvel franchise, no matter the product you’re looking at.
Several months ago it was confirmed that ‘Spider-Man 4’ is in active development, at first rumors were circulating that Watts would return to direct it, but he ultimately moved on to other projects, just like Drew Goddard and Justin Lin.
Now the latest rumors pointed in the direction of Sam Raimi directing the upcoming MCU installment, and according to MyTimeToShineHello, the studio is also interested in James Wan.

Felicity Jones played Hardy in The Amazing Spider-Man movies, but never suited-up as her costumed alter-ego. Anne Hathaway - who played Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises - was all set to debut as an earlier...

Writers/Directors Spenser Cohen & Anna Halberg keep it simple with the PG-13 horror movie Tarot. Instead of a cold open to hook audiences on the horror, Tarot launches straight into introducing the group of seven friends partaking in a party weekend at an isolated manor.
It’s there that they dabble with things they shouldn’t, setting in motion a curse that will pick them off one by one, slasher style. With an equal group of monsters to match, Tarot has the makings of a breezy gateway horror movie perfect for sleepovers, though it’s undermined by surface-level characters and storytelling.
The moment the beer runs dry, forcing the friends to seek entertainment elsewhere, birthday girl Elise (Larsen Thompson) insists that Haley (Harriet Slater) puts her tarot knowledge to good use when they find a mysterious deck within the house. Haley warns that it’s extremely bad luck to borrow...

It was probably only a matter of time before Atomic Monster and Blumhouse announced a sequel to M3GAN after the critically-acclaimed sci-fi horror movie performed very well at the box office, and we found out last January that M3GAN 2.0 was officially in development.
Now, Deadline is reporting that Ahsoka star Ivanna Sakhno has joined the cast. No details on her character were provided, but it is said to be a "major role." Sakhno joins the original movie's stars Allison Williams and Violet McGraw.
Sakhno played Force-sensitive mercenary Shin Hati in the Disney+ Star Wars series, and is expected to reprise the role for the second season.
M3GAN stars Williams as Gemma, a brilliant roboticist at a toy company who uses artificial intelligence to develop a life-like doll programmed to be a kid’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally. After unexpectedly gaining custody of her orphaned niece,...

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament is back. While studios during Covid wildly embraced the theatrical day-and-date model when cinemas were closed, they soon realized there’s nothing more profitable than a theatrical release and the downstreams that come with it. If anything, theatrical is the advertisement for a movie’s longevity in subsequent home entertainment windows. Entering the conversation in 2023 were the streamers, such as Apple, who have also realized the necessity of theatrical to eventize their movies. The financial data pulled together here for Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament is culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

The sci-fi thriller M3GAN (read our review Here, get a copy Here) was such a financial success when it reached theatres in January of last year, it didn’t even take Universal Pictures and production companies Blumhouse and Atomic Monster two weeks to announce that they’d be re-teaming for a sequel. We’ve known that M3GAN stars Allison Williams and Violet McGraw will be reprising their roles in M3GAN 2.0, which is set to reach theatres on May 16, 2025, and now Deadline reports that they’re being joined in the cast by Ivanna Sakhno, who is said to have landed a major part in the sequel.

Although there might not be a solar eclipse traversing the country this month, that doesn’t mean it’s not an exciting time. After all, May is when we celebrate our mothers and kick off the official start of summer with Memorial Day. You may find yourself spending more time outdoors, but who among us doesn’t like to occasionally retreat to our couch or bed for a lazy day even when the weather is nice? With that in mind, we have a number of TV shows and movies you’ll want to watch in May when you’re all cozy indoors — before it’s too late.
If you find yourself with a little over nine hours to kill this month and a hankering for rebellion, volunteer as tribute to watch Jennifer Lawrence in all four of the original Hunger Games films. If you prefer your movies more spine-tingling than dystopian,...

The marketing campaign for Neon’s upcoming horror movie Longlegs isn’t getting any less strange, with the second part of last week’s cryptic teaser video and poster arriving today.
Longlegs heads to theaters on July 12, 2024.
The upcoming serial killer horror movie marks the return of director Osgood Perkins (The Blackcoat’s Daughter, Gretel & Hansel). Nicolas Cage stars alongside Maika Monroe, with Monroe playing an FBI agent and Cage playing a serial killer.
Longlegs is said to be “in the vein of classic Hollywood psychological thrillers.”
The poster is dubbed “Dirty: Part One” while the video is labeled “Dirty: Part Two,” and the latter features some new clips from the film along with a cryptic poem of sorts…
Listen loud the serpents
See the darkness slithering
Tell me what good is that body
If not for hiding shiny red parts
This mysterious teaser features Nicolas Cage, breathing and wheezing creepily over unsettling horror imagery.

The trope of the house, haunting its inhabitants, is a widespread one in horror flicks since Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice to the hyped Insidious and The Conjuring franchises. However, there is a 2020 Netflix movie in which the use of the haunted house theme reaches perfection, which is reflected in its perfect critical score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Its plot revolves around a couple of immigrants, who run away from Sudan’s civil war and try to start a new life in a new country, turning hostile to them. The UK government assigns them a derelict house, which appears to be inhabited by an evil creature.
The main characters get tormented not only by the poltergeist with its ghostly noises and supernatural things happening in the house, but also with the society, which forces them to be the quiet and the good ones, complicating the aftermath of their tragedy.

Under $5 million; no first time directors (unless there’s a named producer); actually good. These used to be the tenets by which Blumhouse built its name. But oh how things have changed. It’s looking increasingly like the little studio that could is making a land grab for virtually every property in horror-dom.
The latest trailer to drop from Blumhouse is for Speak No Evil, a remake of the 2022 Danish film of the same name which caused a big buzz when it hit Shudder for being so utterly and depressingly grim. Blumhouse snapped it up and cast James McAvoy, star of Blumhouse movies Split and Glass, as the central psycho. James Waktins who made similarly nasty and misanthropic horror Eden Lake has directed and the film is set to release in September. That is a pretty speedy turnaround as these things go, but Blumhouse always was agile. McAvoy is good...

Update: At CinemaCon, Universal confirmed they’ll be releasing Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 in Fall 2025.
The original article follows:
The video game adaptation Five Nights at Freddy’s (read our review Here) quickly became Blumhouse Productions’ highest-grossing movie when it reached theatres and the Peacock streaming service back in October, surpassing the likes of Split, The Invisible Man, The Black Phone, M3GAN, the recent Halloween sequel trilogy, and the Paranormal Activity, Insidious, and The Purge franchises with its haul of $295 million. So of course they’re developing a sequel, even if one hasn’t been officially announced yet. Five Nights at Freddy’s star Josh Hutcherson already said back in January that they were “nailing down the story” and hoping to get into production as soon as possible. Creating a horror prequel is trickier business than a sequel. The rules are far less rigid in sequels, with expanded body count and lore most often being the primary goals. But a horror movie prequel has the tougher needle to thread in ensuring all of its pieces nestle neatly within the previously established framework without contradicting any details.
This week brings the arrival of The Omen prequel, The First Omen, charting the events leading up to Antichrist Damien Thorn’s adoption. It makes for the perfect excuse to revisit horror prequels that successfully earned their spot in their franchises through unique shifts in setting, tone, and style without veering too far off the beaten path.
This week’s streaming picks highlight horror movie prequels that get weird or dial up the horror in intense ways while further fleshing out familiar characters and storylines.
Here’s where you can stream them this week.

A Stephen King horror story about a malevolent (sort of) doll almost sounds like something that could've been written specifically for James Wan to turn into a movie. But while the filmmaker behind "Saw," "Insidious," "The Conjuring," and "Malignant" is indeed involved in adapting "The Monkey" -- a short story King wrote for Gallery magazine in 1980 before later including it in his 1985 collection "Skeleton Crew" -- for the screen, he's only lending his services as a producer.
Instead, "The Monkey" is being written and directed by Osgood "Oz" Perkins, son of "Psycho" actor Anthony Perkins and the mind behind such creepily atmospheric and inventively stylized horror pictures as "The Blackcoat's Daughter," "I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House," and "Gretel & Hansel". Osgood Perkins is also currently riding high thanks to the buzz around "Longlegs," his upcoming occult serial killer horror-thriller that boasts one of the most intriguing trailers in recent memory.
