- Liz Lemon takes Frank in as a roommate, and is pleasantly surprised when the two make a pact to help each other kick their bad habits. Meanwhile, Jenna Maroney turns to Jack Donaghy for help with her mother, Verna, who has come to visit.
- We open with Liz falling asleep on some cheesy snacks and dreaming that she gives birth to the product's animated feline mascot: "I gotta eat better," she says.
Kenneth spots Pete trying to have some alone time in the office and ruins it by talking to him.
Jenna runs into Liz' office frantic that her mother Verna has arrived. Liz tries to convince her it's not that big of a deal but Jenna is still distraught.
Frank tells Lutz and Liz about his apartment burning down. Liz reluctantly agrees to let him stay in the second apartment she owns.
Jenna is waiting for Jack in his office. She complains about Verna and how much of a stage parent she was when Jenna was growing up. Jack shows her a leftover presentation he had regarding the importance of saying no to your mother. He emphasizes that when emotions run high she should focus on ASQ: "Always Speak Quieter." This will give Jenna the upper-hand in the argument. Jenna also must let her mother leave if she starts to storm out: "Say no, talk low, let her go."
Liz is upset at Frank for smoking while staying at her apartment. He points out that the junk food she eats is just as unhealthy. Liz thinks fate has brought them to help be healthier.
Jenna meets Verna (Jane Hooks) at a restaurant. Verna hands Jenna an envelope with cash as a way to pay her back and tells her daughter how proud she is of her. Jenna hugs her mother.
Pete's alone-time is once again interrupted by Kenneth.
Frank and Liz announce to the staff they are quitting smoking and junk food, respectively. Pete is worried she'll meltdown without the release she gets from bad food.
Jenna tells Jack that her mother didn't ask for anything this time and appeared to have changed. He tries to tell her that people never change. After her mother says she has to leave that night, Jenna reminds Verna that it would be nice if she stayed since her birthday is that weekend. Once Jenna leaves the room Verna shows Jack she has actually planned a surprise birthday party for Jenna and hands him an invite.
Liz is having trouble detoxing from the junk food. Pete tries to force junk food down her throat to keep her sharp for the show but she won't eat it. Frank walks by and says he's holding up well without the smoking. Liz doesn't believe he could be stronger-willed than her and thinks he's lying. She plans to leave out his old cigarette pack that night for a trap.
Jenna arrives at her surprise party. Based on the past with his mother, Jack doesn't believe Verna has changed. He thinks she'll use the opportunity to ask Jenna for something in an environment where she can't say no. Verna speaks to the entire party. She apologizes for missing a Mother-Daugher pageant when Jenna was younger and asks if they can perform a duet together. They sing together but Jack tells Liz he still isn't convinced Verna has changed.
Jack finds Verna in his office. She tells him she actually came to town to pitch a reality show with her and Janna. She asks Jack to talk to Jenna about the idea.
Jack goes to Jenna's dressing room to tell her about her mother's manipulative plan, but can't do it once he sees how happy she seems.
The next day Liz accused Frank of cheating. The previous night she left a pack out containing 15 cigarettes. Now there are only 12. She also videotaped the living room all night but can't figure out how to play-back the tape. Pete sets up the camera and they see Liz is eating junk food while sleep-walking. She even orders a pizza and eats it, all while asleep. She then eats three cigarettes. Frank then brings a mail room woman into the living room and falls asleep on her lap.
Jack tells Verna "I want to be in business with you." He tells her that he wants the project to be about a mother making amends with her daughter: redemption, not a show. If she visits Jenna four times a year he will sends her checks. She negotiations $3,000 per visit and they shake on it.
We see visa flashback that Pete has now joined a fight club to get his release.
Jenna excitedly tells Liz that Verna is coming back for Mother's Day. Liz tells Jack this means he was "100 percent wrong about Verna." Jack steps into the elevator and the animated cat is standing there: "You're a good man, Jack Donaghy."
