Arquette played Depp’s husband in the 1994 movie Ed Wood. The feature was Tim Burton’s biographical film about an eccentric director’s relationship with Hollywood. Although it may have been the first time Arquette and Depp worked together, it wasn’t the first time they met. In an interview with The Daily Beast, Arquette revealed she’d known Depp since they were kids. However, nothing romantic ever sparked between them.

Miles Taylor, a former chief of staff at the Department of Homeland Security under former President Donald Trump, discusses the former president’s “naked sexism” in his upcoming book Blowback: A Warning to Save Democracy from the Next Trump.
Taylor’s book cites various accounts from aides that describe Trump’s lewd comments about his daughter Ivanka‘s physical appearance, including how he talked about “what it might be like to have sex with her.”
He also referred to Ivanka’s breasts and backside, leading White House Chief of Staff John Kelly to tell the president that she was his daughter.
This comes after multiple former staffers came out about Trump’s inappropriate behavior toward women while president and a New York jury found him guilty of sexually abusing and defaming E. Jean Carroll.

In 2003, Bob Dylan starred in the film Masked and Anonymous with a number of Hollywood heavy hitters. His co-stars included Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Luke Wilson, Jessica Lange, Penelope Cruz, Val Kilmer, and many others. Dylan didn’t have nearly as much acting experience as his co-stars. While he had a leading role in the film, his inexperience caused some issues. Dylan seemed far more interested in watching his castmates than he was in giving a performance of his own.
Bob Dylan found his co-stars in a film riveting to watch
Masked and Anonymous had a stacked cast at least partly because the actors wanted a chance to work with Dylan.
“I think John [Goodman] really responded to the part, but a lot of the other people responded to just the idea of working with Bob,” director Larry Charles told Uproxx in 2023. “We were able to attract a lot of people because of that,...

In the early 2000s, Bob Dylan teamed up with writer Larry Charles to work on the screenplay for the film Masked and Anonymous. This was not the musician’s first movie. Still, this was the first time he worked on a screenplay in this way. Charles said he worked well with Dylan and that the script was the product of their equal collaboration. Charles noted that Dylan had been researching the Civil War at the time, so the historical era influenced the screenplay.
Bob Dylan took inspiration from the Civil War when he wrote a screenplay
When Charles and Dylan began working on Masked and Anonymous, Dylan pulled out a box of possible character names. He’d written them on scraps of paper with assorted words and phrases. In a similar manner to which Dylan writes songs, they began putting the scraps together to write a screenplay.

A shakeup has hit management-production company Anonymous Content’s top ranks, with CEO Dawn Olmstead and COO Heather McCauley resigning.
“I can confirm that, effective immediately, I am resigning as CEO of Anonymous Content,” Olmstead said in a statement. “I am proud of all we accomplished during my two years at the company. Hollywood icon Goldie Hawn thinks the Oscars have lost their touch.
The actor won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1970 for her breakout role in Cactus Flower. She was nominated again in the Best Actress category for Private Benjamin in 1981.
“It used to be elegant,” Hawn told Variety of the Oscars in a new cover story.
“I’m not old-fashioned, but sometimes jokes are off-colour. And I’m missing reverence. Things have become politicized. I want to see people in awe. I want to see people believing again. I want to see people laughing more in a way that isn’t just at someone else’s expense.”
The actor added that Will Smith’s infamous slap at last year’s ceremony was “indicative of our culture right now”.
“I mean, you could look at it and say, ‘What the hell just happened?’ Somebody lost control. They lost their self-regulation.

On March 6, History of the World, Part II will finally arrive more than 40 years after Mel Brooks’ classic comedy History of the World, Part I. first premiered. Of course, Brooks never had any intention of adding future parts to his ahistorical film, but that yet makes the arrival of Part II so many years later even funnier. Described as a four-night comedy event, History of the World, Part II will release two episodes a day through March 9. Brooks returns to write and executive produce this series and will star alongside Nick Kroll, Wanda Sykes, and Ike Barinholtz. Guest stars include…everyone. Basically just everyone.

German director Roland Emmerich made "The Noah's Ark Principle" in Germany in 1984 -- a student film with a budget of over a million Deutschmarks -- and never looked back. He quickly helmed two English-language family films, followed by a move into the worlds of action and science fiction in the 1990s. The peak Emmerich movie is probably still "Independence Day," although his other action and disaster movies -- "The Day After Tomorrow," "2012," "White House Down," and "Moonfall" -- are the connoisseur's choices.
Emmerich (both wisely and unwisely) stretches himself into other genres -- such as the war movies "The Patriot" and "Midway," and the historical dramas "Anonymous" and "Stonewall." It's good to see him pushing himself, taking risks, and experimenting, even if the end results are mixed, to say the least. But he excels at big-budget action movies, and if he's given actors blessed with the necessary star quality to build his beautiful disasters around,...

It’s ironic but unavoidable that the greatest annual celebration of film should be a television special — but that’s just how it is. March often means Oscar season, a time for cinephiles to boot up that small screen you use for movies and use it to see if they win any awards during a telecast.
If you don’t have TV service anymore, Hulu has you covered with a pre-Oscars telecast as well as two red carpet specials before and after the main event. Though the ceremony itself won’t be livestreamed on Hulu, it will be added the next morning, like regular ABC programming. Awards viewership has been in general decline over the past several years, but next-day streaming gives curious viewers a chance to join the conversation and boost those Oscar ratings after the live show. It’s also a chance for superfans to pause and rewind...

At last measure, Roland Emmerich's "Moonfall" was the 26th biggest box office bomb of all time. Working on an estimated budget of about 140 million, "Moonfall" has only made about 44 million worldwide. Factor in the film's advertising and distribution budget, and it stands to have lost about 139 million.
Some may be old enough to remember a time when a box office bomb of this size would be the biggest news in Hollywood. Notorious bombs like Michael Cimino's "Heaven's Gate" (1980), Willard Huyck's "Howard the Duck" (1986), or Elaine May's "Ishtar" (1987) retain their notoriety to this day, stained forever by their box office failure. A film like "Moonfall," meanwhile, is merely another major bomb in a long series of them. One might even have to fight to remember that it came out earlier this year. For perspective, "Moonfall," when adjusted for inflation, lost about 3 million more than "Heaven's Gate." Mere months later,...

“Notoriously shy” is one of the first phrases used to describe Courtney Barnett in Anonymous Club, Danny Cohen’s documentary-cum-tour-diary, and if you only knew this Australian singer-songwriter from her live shows, the words might come as a low-voltage shock. Sensitive, sure. But shy? Onstage, Barnett has a knack for demonstrating why rock is also a verb; a sturdy guitarist on record, she doesn’t appear to play her Fender Telecaster so much as wrestle it into submission. The sound of her music is pure indie-label bliss, filled with confessional...

This article contains spoilers for The Flight Attendant finale.
HBO Max’s The Flight Attendant ended its second season with a tinnitus-triggering explosion, but that wasn’t the biggest showdown of the episode for Cassandra Bowden (Kaley Cuoco), who has spent all season fighting various versions of herself, from someone impersonating her across the world to the worst parts of her personality manifesting inside her mind palace. After eight episodes of following doppelgängers in blonde wigs, it turns out they were red herrings—the real threats came from the natural blondes.
Who’s Trying to Frame (and Kill) Cassie?
The penultimate episode, “No Exit,” knocked both of Cassie’s bewigged doubles off the suspect list. At the pier, Annie (Zosia Mamet) and Max (Deniz Akdeniz) tased Gabrielle (Callie Hernandez) and Esteban (J.J. Soria) Diaz, while Cassie wound up on the ferris wheel with fellow flight attendant Grace St. James...

Though the confusingly named initiative “FX on Hulu” is on its way out, FX is still bringing premium television to Hulu in the meantime.
Hulu’s list of new releases for April 2022 is highlighted by FX limited series Under the Banner of Heaven. This adaptation of the non-fiction book by John Krakauer stars Andrew Garfield as a Mormon police detective whose faith is shaken when investigating a murder involving the church.
It’s not all just FX on the TV side of things for Hulu this month, however. The streamer is debuting second seasons of its series The Hardy Boys (April 6) and Woke (April 8). There isn’t much to report from Hulu’s original movies arm aside from true crime documentary Captive Audience on April 21. But that doc about one family’s 50-year journey for justice sounds like a must-watch.

Every line is stupid. Every reveal is stupid. Every inference that conspiracy theorists could save us all if only people would listen to what they have to say is stupid — not stupid as opposed to being serious, but stupid in lieu of being smart. That slight yet pivotal distinction epitomizes the sheer joylessness of Emmerich’s latest mega-slog, which betrays the dumb fun promised by its marketing campaign in favor of a po-faced interplanetary pileup that unfolds less like a B-movie spectacle with a NASA-worthy budget than it does a blockbuster remake of “Melancholia” as directed by Elon Musk. The result is a blockbuster as big and hollow as the Moon itself; one small step for bland, one giant leap for bland-kind.
Of course, critics have long accused Emmerich of lowering the bar with his destructive brand of blockbuster schlock, and if the world keeps getting worse at its current rate,...

Tony Leung Chiu-wai will follow up his turn as the controversial patriarch Wenwu in “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” with a lead role in Bona Film Group’s next patriotic juggernaut: the World War II-era spy thriller “Anonymous,” which just wrapped shooting this week.
The movie is the third installment of Bona’s “China Victory Trilogy,” a series intended as “a gift to the Communist Party for its centenary,” given that this year marks its 100th anniversary. Post-production is currently underway and an August 2022 release date is expected. It was first announced in June at the Shanghai International Film Festival.
The first pic in the trilogy is “Chinese Doctors,” which celebrates China overcoming Covid-19 in the early days of the pandemic. It grossed $197 million starting in July. The second film, Korean war saga “The Battle at Lake Changjin,” is the highest-grossing movie in the world this year...

Sam Reid has been cast in the lead role of Lestat in AMC’s “Interview With the Vampire” series, Variety has learned.
The show, which was officially greenlit in June, is based on the Anne Rice novel of the same name. The book centers on the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac as he relates the story of his life to a reporter, in particular how he was turned into a vampire and then mentored by Lestat de Lioncourt.
The casting could represent a long-term investment in Reid on AMC’s part. As the company has the rights to all of Rice’s “The Vampire Chronicles” books and Lestat appears in multiple entries, Reid could find himself portraying the character across multiple series. At this time, however, “Interview With the Vampire” is only “Vampire Chronicles” series that has been greenlit by AMC.

One of the central (and, frankly, more insufferable) tenets of improv is the principle of “yes, and” — essentially, agreeing to everything your scene partner suggests and then building on it. The purpose of this is to free you up to be as flexible and responsive to your partner’s suggestions as possible: If they establish, for instance, you’re at a pontoon boat salesmen’s convention in Akron, you should affirm that and add that the ghost of Abraham Lincoln is also present and that he is in the market for a new Sun Tracker.

Considering how adamantly Trump has denied that Covid-19 is a threat, and considering how his most fervent supporters have fallen for this line of reasoning, one would think that the recent revelation that the president has tested positive for the virus would be a sobering reminder of the dangers of the disease. One would, however, be wrong.
In the wake of the news, as pundits have struggled to unpack the implications of what Trump’s diagnosis means for the election, conspiracy theorists who have downplayed the impact of Covid-19 have reveled in the news.

Bob Dylan's filmography might not be as long or as revered as other popular musicians who have dipped their toes in cinema; but when he does make a film, it's something to watch. The second of the two feature films that he's written, Masked and Anonymous, is getting a blu ray release from Shout Factory this month. It's a strange and moody film that feels like a ballad and moves like theatre, with an impressive list of stars centering around the presence of America's great songwriter, in a story that feels oddly prescient despite being made nearly twenty years ago. This was Larry Charles' feature directorial debut; it might seem odd that the future director of Borat, The Comedians, and several episodes of Curb Your...

In a competitive situation, Anonymous outbid multiple players for the thriller, which it will adapt for the big screen with in-house producers Alex Goldstone and Rosalie Swedlin.
“Stranger” has been likened to sensual thrillers like “Fatal Attraction” and “Body Heat,” as well as Caroline Kepnes’ Netflix and publishing sensation “You,” The novel follows wealthy Hamptons dweller Caroline Stark whose one-night stand with a local bartender leads to some unrequited love. As tensions escalate between Caroline and her fling, she suddenly finds herself accused of murdering her own husband.
The book hits July 23 from St. Martin’s Press and has already been named one of Parade Magazine’s 10 Books by Women We Can’t Wait to Read in 2019, PureWow’s Best Beach Reads of Summer 2019, and one of the most anticipated books of the summer by CrimeReads.

The Atlantic and Anonymous Content have signed a first-look agreement, Variety has learned. Under the pact, Anonymous, the producer of movies and shows such as “Spotlight” and “True Detective,” will have the initial crack at developing and making scripted and unscripted content from the Atlantic’s past and present articles and content.
Both companies share a common investor. Emerson Collective, the limited liability company founded by Laurene Powell Jobs, is the majority owner of the Atlantic, as well as a minority stakeholder in Anonymous Content.
“It helped us find common cause,” the Atlantic’s president Bob Cohn said in an interview. “Although we knew of Anonymous Content’s great work and they knew of ours.”

Billed as the biggest project coming to the Cannes Film Market, where this year big projects currently look to be at a premium, Agc Studios and CAA Media Finance are handling worldwide rights on “Moonfall,” to be directed by Roland Emmerich.
Set up at Emmerich’s Centropolis Entertainment, the action-sci-fi “Moonfall” turns on a rag-tag team which, after the moon has been knocked out of orbit and sent hurtling towards the earth, launches an impossible last-ditch mission into space to land on the lunar surface, unlock its secrets, and save our planet from annihilation.
“But first they must battle an unknown and unfathomable power that will challenge everything we know about the moon, the universe, and ourselves,” the synopsis runs.
“Moonfall” is “the first battle waged by humanity against a seemingly unstoppable enemy, unlocking a mystery of cosmic proportions,” it adds.
The epic was written by Emmerich, Harald Kloser and Spenser Cohen,...
