The Continental - S01E02 (2023) Leaving mediocrity
claszdsburrogato4 October 2023
I confess that the first episode didn't make me want to watch the next ones, but I feel that the series is improving after this second episode. This miniseries is already coming to an end and I feel like there's a chance it will end in a slightly more pleasant way. The character development is much more interesting here and they manage to evolve the story in an interesting way. However, nothing here is perfect, everything is very mediocre and the fact that the episode lasts more than an hour becomes tiring and in many moments it seems like it stays in the same place. It has evolved, yes, but it doesn't make the series good.

Just call it Charlies Angels and be done with it.

Warning: Spoilers
This episode was even worse than the last one.

First, everything was so dark, I had to turn the brightness of my screen up. Then the music, don't get me wrong, it was great at first, but a new song every 5 minutes got old REAL QUICK. No joke, there was at least 12 songs during this 70 minute episode. I started hitting fast forward quite a bit. Then the action, only the women got any action spotlight - I tell you, whoever wrote this ep needs to go write a female centric show, because they definitely had no desire to write any of the male leads.

Speaking of male leads -our so called main lead Winston didn't show up till 15 minutes into the episode and pretty much only got 2 important scenes, with Charon & the 'Queenpin' (Ugh, so on the nose, but I did like her demeaner and presence).

Apart from those 2 scenes, the last 10 minutes with Gibson was the highlight. It showed how ruthless his character was.

What the hell is this?

Warning: Spoilers
Im really disappointed and thats not what i like from the John Wick movies: clearly no action (only some minor fights), too much story. The whole episode is just to make a plan: Kill Cormac. We learn a little bit more of Charon. But what the hell is this?? Why they made that? I still dont understand. I want some breathtaking gunfights and a little bit story not the opposite. Im a fan of John Wick but what they made with that show its non sense and dont respect the movies at all. We have some few flirting that are useless, i really get bored and that relationship with Cormac and the Winston brothers really get uninterested. Cormac is not really believable and that the way he kills that young boy its so superficial. This episode is even worst than the first. At least the first episode had a great action scene at the beginning but here its so meaningless dialogues, scenes, characters. I didnt get into it to be honest and get really disappointed.

Where's the action? One hour and a half of pointless dialogues.

I wanted to give this show the benefit of the doubt, but unfortunately my fears became reality on this second episode: whoever wrote this thing did not understand the world of John Wick. In almost one hour and a half, there were probably only 10 minutes of action sequences. This has just become the umpteenth revenge story I have seen times and times again. It does not even try to add something new to the mix. There are just too many things that are irrelevant to the story: the dialogues are too long, containing useless information that do not influence the plot at all. What is the purpose of KD and Mayhew? Their narrative arc is practically nonexistent and they just fill some minutes on the episodes. Where are the shootouts? Where are the stunts? If I wanted to watch a character drama, I wouldn't pick a production that is based on an action franchise. The creators completely missed the mark and they forgot the main reason why people would watch this series in the first place. The original movies did a better job in building Wick's criminal world. This show in three hours did not manage to come even close. It is just so boring. I will finish this series just because I am curious to see how this mess would wrap up, but to be honest I do not think that I am gonna keep following this franchise after "The Continental". They should have finished with a trilogy.

This show ain't good... John Wick didn't need to become a franchise with spin offs. Just doesn't work without Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski
ablurt_5529 September 2023
We're now 2 episodes into this show now with 1 more to go. With each episode having nearly the same runtime as a John Wick film, it's clear that the magic formula of this franchise is Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski. The show doesn't even feel like it's part of the same world. The Continental Hotel doesn't even feel like the same one from the movies. There was no need for John Wick to have a spin off. Mission Impossible has never done a spin off, you know why? Because it wouldn't work without Tom Cruise. The same thing applies to John Wick, it just doesn't work without Keanu and Chad. I'll give the Ana De Armas film that's coming out soon a chance tho, as Keanu is actually going to appear in it.

The actor playing Winston has nowhere near the charisma and on screen presence of Ian McShane. Doesn't feel like the same character. The only good thing about this show is Mel Gibson, but other than that I ended up skipping through all the scenes. The episode runtime is too long. Don't waste your time and just rewatch the John Wick films again.

Loyalty to the Master
Prismark1020 January 2024
What a load of rubbish. Most of the episode was so dark, I too had to adjust my television set.

Eventually I gave up, the production might has well put up a black screen. Actually it would had been more entertaining.

This was a crashing bore and it lasts for 80 minutes. At least there are some tuneful retro songs. More entertaining than all the dialogue.

Winston Scott has a suicidal plan to take out Cormac O'Connor for killing his brother Frankie. Key is having Charon on Winston's side, the man who is loyal to Cormac.

The only bright spot was when Mel Gibson shows up. This Cormac is mad and bad.
