Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn gives jam as swathe of film and TV celebrities add support, including Zone of Interest’s Jonathan Glazer and Thor’s Tessa Thompson
A host of film directors and stars, including Susan Sarandon, Paul Mescal and Olivia Colman, have added their names to those offering time and memorabilia to a Cinema for Gaza auction that is raising funds for humanitarian relief in Palestine.
Joining the celebrities is the former Labour party leader Jeremy Corbyn – billed as the star of Sumotherhood, thanks to his cameo in last year’s Adam Deacon urban thriller – who is donating a Zoom poetry reading and a selection of homemade jam.

Hit British comedy Sumotherhood is coming to DVD and Blu-ray in February. More details on the release here.
For his return to directing after over a decade, Adam Deacon brought to the screen the comedy Sumotherhood last autumn. Deacon directed the film, took the lead role, and co-wrote the movie too, which built on the success of Anuvahood back in 2011.
The new movie attracted a whole bunch of cameos that I don’t want to spoil here (although the promotion for the movie sort of did!), and there’s a bank robbery sequence in the midst of the film that just keeps building and building as more faces appear.
Paramount Pictures backed the picture in the UK, and it enjoyed modest success at the box office too. Now, the film is also getting a physical media release, with Paramount set to issue Sumotherhood on DVD and Blu-ray on February 26th 2024.

Adam Deacon’s star-stuffed parody arrives on digital platforms next week ahead of a boxing day rental release.
The latest film from BAFTA-winner Adam Deacon will be available to download and keep on digital platforms from the 12th December, before becoming rent-able (presumably from those same ‘digital platforms’) from the 26th December.
We’ve not managed to catch this one yet, but the synopsis (and a stacked cast list) have our curiosity piqued. Here is that very same synopsis:
In this parody of the UK urban genre Riko and Kane have got it all … big dreams, no respect and a fifteen grand debt. Could things get any worse?
Yes! So, it’s time to man up and finally be taken seriously as “Roadmen”. Once putting their heads together on various ways to make some money, they decide to rob a megastar in a nightclub toilet and hold up the local bank,...

Trafalgar Releasing’s concert film “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” was on song at the U.K. and Ireland box office, debuting at No. 1 with £5.7 million ($6.9 million), according to numbers from Comscore.
The film is now the territory’s highest grossing event cinema release, surpassing National Theatre Live’s filmed play “Prima Facie,” starring Jodie Comer, which collected £5.5 million in 2022. Tim Richards, founder and CEO of cinema chain Vue International, said: “We saw an incredible response from Swifties across the U.K. and Ireland who dressed up, sang along and danced away with fellow fans, with sell out sessions despite scheduling an unprecedented number of shows so no one missed out.”

It felt somewhat fitting that we sat down with filmmakers, and friends, Adam Deacon and Jazzie Zonzolo, on World Mental Health Day, for their latest film, Sumotherhood, undercuts the overstated comedy and criminality, with some profound messages about reaching out.
Deacon, who has spoken out about his own issues in the past, talks to the importance of injecting conversations of this nature into his feature, while both he and Zonzolo speak about their friendship and how they came to know and work with one another. They also talk about the cameos in the film, in how they got Ed Sheeran to, well, poo in a bush – and even more surprising: how they got Jeremy Corbyn to say ‘wasteman’.

‘Shape of You’ hitmaker Ed Sheeran is set to shock fans as he will soon be seen playing a homeless drug addict in a new action-comedy film. The 32-year-old musician will star opposite Denise van Outen, Jennifer Saunders, Jaime Winstone, Peter Serafinowicz and Kevin Bishop in a big screen adventure that was filmed in London last year, reports Mirror.co.uk.
The film is titled ‘Sumotherhood’ and has been written and directed by Adam Deacon.
In the past, Ed has caused upset in the acting world when he was crowbarred into an episode of ‘Game of Thrones’ but has also managed to bag appearances on ‘Home and Away’, ‘The Simpsons’ and ‘Bridget Jones’s Baby’.
As per Mirror.co.uk, it is unclear the extent to which Ed will feature in the new film but will be a rare instance where he is playing a character rather than himself on screen.
