Siobhan Fallon Hogan got the idea for this movie's story from anecdotes that her father William J. Fallon, who was an attorney, would tell her and her four siblings about convicts he would represent in court, including a few who were on death row. Her father also wanted Hogan to be a country singer, which is how Hogan developed the idea of her character being a washed-up country singer whose glory days were behind her.
The extras in the bar scene were comprised of Siobhan Fallon Hogan's former classmates from her high school class of 1979. Hogan asked her classmates to show up to the bar if they wanted to be in the scene, and classmates came from miles around to be in the movie. Some even flew into Syracuse, New York, where the scene was filmed.
Director Vibeke Muasya had previously directed Siobhan Fallon Hogan and Robert Patrick in Rushed (2021), a film to which Hogan also wrote the story and screenplay.
