Since 1912, the International Olympic Committee has been commissioning an official film to highlight the best of each edition of the Games. This year, the Ioc has enlisted Emmy-winning brothers Jules and Gédéon Naudet to helm the official film of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Naudet brothers, renowned for their Emmy-winning documentary “9/11” and subsequent works such as “Notre-Dame: Our Lady of Paris” and “November 13: Attack on Paris,” are taking a novel approach to documenting the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Instead of a traditional film composed of clips of the Games’ sporting highlights, they are delving into the heart of the event, unveiling the untold story of how a city and a nation unite to host an Olympic Games.
For the Naudets, covering an Olympic Games was an exciting prospect and an opportunity to become known as more than just the “catastrophe brothers,” Jules explained in a recent conversation with Variety.

The theme of Disney’s 2024 upfront presentation to advertisers Tuesday was “connections” — and not just because of the running bit started by “Deadpool” star Ryan Reynolds and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” star Rob McElhenney, which involved their constant replaying of a five-second ad spot that said “Connections!” with a Disneyified logo and voiceover.
No, the symbol of unity across Disney’s brands was made up of a slew of announcements from Marvel, and about such other high-wattage projects as “Star Wars,” “The Bear,” “Only Murders in the Building,” the “Wizards of Waverly Place” sequel series, “9-1-1,” Ryan Murphy’s new slate of FX titles and more franchises with intersecting talent.
Disney kicked off the event when Oscar-winning “Poor Things” star Emma Stone introduced the Mouse House’s big boss, Bob Iger — a job like that would traditionally go to a top ABC star. The use of film talent like...

Sheryl Lee Ralph and Lisa Ann Walter from Abbott Elementary got to call roll at the start of the Disney Upfront Tuesday, which allowed many of the stars from the studio’s movies and networks to sound off (in a video) before the presentation kicked off at the North Javits Center.
And what’s an ABC upfront without the voice of Walt Disney? Yup, he was (heard) there, too. Here’s what else happened at the afternoon shindig:
Emma Stone, whose Oscar acceptance speech for Poor Things was replayed during the opening montage, kicked off the event to remind everyone that the studio was founded more than 100 years ago. Her primary job, though? She was there to introduce Disney CEO Bob Iger. Disney CEO Bob Iger (Disney/Jennifer Pottheiser) Iger returned to the upfront stage, sans tie with his white shirt, for the first time in 30 years. He promised that...

Break out Tom Cruise’s famous coconut cake, the wait is finally over. “Hacks,” TV’s funniest comedy about comedy, is back after a lengthy hiatus. The third season picks up a year after the events of Season 2, which saw Deborah (Emmy winner Jean Smart) fire her writing partner, Ava (Emmy nominee Hannah Einbinder), following the successful release of her comedy special so Ava could finally begin developing her own career.
The new season, the first two episodes of which are now streaming on Max, is as sharp and funny as ever as the two friends find their way back to one another when Deborah decides to have another go at hosting a late-night show. The enviable list of guest stars for the nine-episode season includes J. Smith-Cameron, Helen Hunt, Christina Hendricks and Christopher Lloyd. The third season of the Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney midlife crisis saga, Welcome to Wrexham, is like watching a live-action Ted Lasso. The series makes you think Wrexham AFC was what the team on AFC Richmond was probably really like: an eclectic group run by some ignorant, football-naive Americans who may be a bit over their heads.
Yet, the third season of Welcome to Wrexham represents something we love about movies or television: never to count out the underdog. The reality series encapsulates the dreamer in all of us, mainly by capturing how a sense of community and the nature of professional sports fandom meet in the middle.

After helping to transform a soccer team and a town in Wales, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have set their sights on central Mexico as the next spot to invest in a beloved local sports franchise.
Reynolds and McElhenney have purchased a stake in Club Necaxa, the century-old Mexican soccer club that also counts Eva Longoria among its owners. The pair will work with Longoria and fellow investors Al Tylis and Sam Porter to enhance Club Necaxa’s standing and grow its profile in international sports circles at a time of heightened TV and streaming demand for soccer content. Jokes from Prince Harry could go a long way in his upcoming Netflix series about polo. A royal commentator says the Duke of Sussex’s new show must tread carefully or risk mistakes made by other celebrities. To that end, some humor just might help it strike the “right tone.”
Harry has to ‘get the tone absolutely perfectly right’ on his Netflix polo series
Playing polo in lavish locales can’t be the extent of Harry’s polo series, according to Jack Royston, the host of The Royal Report podcast (via Newsweek).
“I think they need to get the tone absolutely perfectly right,” he said of the show, which Archewell Productions announced on April 11, 2024.
“I don’t think they can just, in 2024, celebrate how exceptionally amazing and god-like these mega-rich polo players are, riding around in the sunshine on horses.”
“It’s great that they raise money for charity,” he added.

Prince Harry has a new Netflix show on the way. It’s about — drumroll, please — polo, a favorite sport among many British royals. His and Meghan Markle’s Archewell Productions is, in partnership with the streamer, going inside the world of professional polo. Per a commentator, it’s not necessarily a good look for the Duke of Sussex. Why? Because his “man of the people” image falls away, showing Harry’s still an “elite.”

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are celebrating in style following another Wrexham promotion to a better league.
Reynolds co-owns the club with fellow actor McElhenney. The team secured promotion to League Two last year. Now, a 6-0 victory over Forest Green Rovers on Saturday means they will play in League One next season.
On X, formerly Twitter, Reynolds wrote: “A few years ago, if you told me I would be crying tears of joy over a football match taking place in North Wales, you would be Rob McElhenney. Congrats to Wrexham and to my co-chairman in crime. Double up the town! This is the ride of our lives.”
He later posted a celebration of McElhenny’s birthday, allegedly underwriting a trip to the Titanic to grab a few bottles of Wrexham Lager for a toast. See the results below.
Since McElhenney and Reynolds’ bought the team in February 2021, they have boosted its worldwide attention.

Despite the club being struck with some hard times, the Rr McReynolds Company’s investment has helped it come back. Even on Instagram, Reynolds is often seen promoting the soccer club and even went on to launch the Emmy-winning docuseries, Welcome to Wrexham. It’s official: Disney+ and Hulu now live together in one app. Good thing too, since Disney already spent $8.5 billion to buy out Comcast’s stake, with more on the way.
You can bet you’re going to see a whole lot more ads pushing the Disney Bundle, which is the only way to get access to Hulu content via the Disney+ app (the marketing campaign is already in full swing). Disney even changed the color of its logo to a bluish green blend to let you know the app is Disney+ And Hulu merged together.
The idea is that by understanding how much content is available to you without having to swap between apps to find what you want to watch, you’re less likely to cancel. They also want more subscribers. Disney+ as of the end of 2023 has 46.1 million subscribers in the U.S. and Canada compared to Hulu’s 49.7 million.

If you haven’t taken the leap to bundle Disney+ and Hulu, it might be time. Streaming is only getting more expensive and competitive, and the enticing bundle (which also includes ESPN) might be a version of cable TV, but it’s also just cost efficient. Disney+ and Hulu are so intertwined that their monthly listing updates come in the same email — and as such, we decided to compile them here for you in the same list.
Whether you have Disney+ or Hulu, or both (and the IndieWire staff has weighed on our favorites), each has its benefits. Disney has the family-friendly titles, the Star Wars and Marvel (new episodes of “The Bad Batch” and “X-Men: 97” continue through April), while Hulu is the place to catch FX originals and network episodes. Both streamers have the rights to distribute National Geographic titles, which are well worth exploring along with the rest of the library.
