Christopher Lee graced the screens with his performances as menacing villains in several notable projects. The late actor delighted his fans when his career saw a resurgence after appearing as Saruman in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Following that he also appeared as the villainous Count Dooku in Star Wars: Episode II- Attack of the Clones (2002).
Christopher Lee as Count Dooku
Lee’s performance as Count Dooku was one of the rarest positive elements in the much-criticized Prequel Trilogy. But the late actor did not seem to have a very good experience during the filming. Additionally, despite a good performance, a certain section of fans believe that Count Dooku is the most underutilized Star Wars villain.

Kimo Stamboel's latest supernatural chiller, Dancing Village: The Curse Begins, opens in U.S. cinemas tomorrow, April 26th, from Lionsgate Pictures. Despite having written about and supported Stamboel throughout their career, ever since their debut feature film Macabre, I've never truly spoken with the director. Until now. Through the wonder of technology no times zones, no geological challenges such at hemispheres and different continants got in our way this week as we sat down with them to talk about the new flick. Watch as we go through a bit of background on the true story claims that the film makes. We explore a bit into the enigma that is one of the film's writers SimpleMan. Stamboel also shot the first SouthEast Asian film for Imax so...

Exclusive: Ratu Adil has been marked as a tentpole series in the burgeoning Indonesian streaming market, and here’s an exclusive clip ahead of the action series’ release.
The eight-episode crime drama is launching on local streamer Vidio tomorrow (February 29) and stars Dian Sastrowardoyo, fresh off her leading role in Netflix’s global hit Cigarette Girl, with prolific filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto as producer. The series also stars Nino Fernandez and Hana Malasan.
In a time where American streamers like Disney+ and Amazon’s Prime Video have sharply cut back on original content production in Indonesia, an important spotlight has grown on homegrown streamers such as Vidio, and how they can fill the gap.
Ratu Adil tells the story of a housewife named Lasja Seoryo (played by Sastrowardoyo) seeking to protect her family from Jakarta’s ‘9 Dragons’ mafia. The clip sees Lasja engaged in a life-or-death shoot out in a dimly-lit corridor,...

Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 film "Psycho" famously employed a gimmick in its advertising to set it apart from the thrillers of the day. Movie posters and other print ads featured pictures of Hitchcock himself, pointing to his wristwatch, declaring that audiences watch "Psycho" from the very beginning, or face ejection from the theater. This came at a time when many theaters were still operating by a non-scheduled system, showing a well-moneyed "A" feature, followed by cartoons, shorts, newsreels, commercials, and a cheaper "B" feature. This is where we get the term "B movie" from. The cycle would then repeat. You could spend four or five hours in the theater if you wanted to. The entire loop would then repeat, and you could catch up with the movie on its second go-'round. This is where we get the phrase, "This is where we came in."
Hitchcock, of course, was repeating the sensationalist gimmicks of William Castle,...

Naming horror movies is a serious business. It needs to sound scary, it shouldn’t give too much away, ideally it shouldn’t be named the same as someone else’s film, but it should also be memorable enough to stick in the brain. So unsurprisingly a lot of horror filmmakers have opted to call their movie “scary sounding adjective”.
But which word is scariest? We have ranked the movies based entirely on how alarming our perception of the adjective is. Come at us in the comments.
7. Ominous
Rain clouds can be ominous. Your boss saying “can I borrow you for a minute” can be ominous.
But to describe your child dying in an accident and a mysterious stranger offering to bring him back to life as “Ominous” feels like a bit of an understatement. That’s the plot of this film from 2015 by Peter Sullivan, which sounds like it...

Weforge Studio Announces Stealth Extraction Horror Game ‘Macabre’ for PC, Demo Coming Soon [Trailer]
If Australia wasn’t scary enough already, Sidney-based Weforge Studio has cranked things up with Macabre, their newly-announced stealth extraction horror game. Taking a cue of sorts from Deathloop, the game will see players journey through infinite timelines within an unstable time rift, tasked with uncovering the source of terrifying anomalies.
In Macabre, you’ll be guided through the rift by Banjo, an eccentric recluse with an unclear past. Along the way, players will upgrade their gear, learn new skills, and fight with everything they’ve got to save humankind from a fate worse than death.
Macabre features a highly replayable game loop, addictive progression, and the option to play solo or with friends. The game is designed with depth and replayability in mind, offering unique locations, immersive art and sound, cunning creatures, and “a pinch of dark comedy.”
“People all around the world know Australia to be a dangerous place.

My podcast Scare You To Sleep is my love story of nightmares meeting sweet dreams. Terrifying tales told in a soothing voice with as much atmosphere as I can pack into each episode. Short stories that vary from week to week, be it ghosts and ghouls or body horror and gore. There are also episodes I invented called Guided Nightmares where I take you through a guided meditation of sorts, but, well, this isn’t meadows of flowers or tranquil beaches. No, I take you running for your life through haunted manors, away from bog witches, and we get lost together in corn mazes full of decaying reanimated corpses!

Streaming media company Cinedigm has landed all North American rights to hit Latin horror movie “History of the Occult” from Buenos Aires-based FilmSharks. After a successful run across Latin America, Europe and Asia, it will debut in the U.S. and Canada in December via Cinedigm’s horror streaming service Screambox, powered by Bloody Disgusting.

It’s not uncommon to find many animated series in U.S pop culture that focuses on Greek and Roman mythology, like “Blood of Zeus” or “Hercules.” However, there are a few animated series whose creators choose to tell distinct stories like “DC’s Titans,” “Teen Titans Go,” “Gravity Falls,” and of course “Victor and Valentino.”

The 1958 film "Macabre" was, in actuality, William Castle's 40th film as a director, but it might be the first that could be considered "a William Castle picture." Prior to "Macabre," Castle was a studio workman, churning out multiple low-budget genre films every year, including Westerns (he made four of the eight films in the popular "Whistler" film series), gangster flicks, and medieval adventures. "Macabre" was the first film he financed himself (he had to mortgage his house), and Castle finally permitted himself to lean into the kinds of movies he always wanted to make: joyously ghoulish horror films. "Macabre," perhaps described as...

Hello, dear readers! Today, we here at Daily Dead are kicking off our 2022 Indie Horror Month celebration, and we have a ton of killer content coming your way throughout the entire month of April that will highlight some amazing indie genre goodness created by an assortment of maverick makers from both the past and present. And for our first official piece for Ihm 2022, I thought it made sense to take a look at one of the most pivotal decades in independent horror cinema: the 1970s.
While we’ve had plenty of brilliant indie horror released here in America throughout every decade (it’s worth noting that the roots of independent horror can even be traced back 100 years to the release of F.W. Murnau’s Nosferatu), there were certainly several key figures who were busy making horror movies on their own terms prior to the ’70s that helped pave the way...

2021 was another chaotic up and down year, but at least we had movies! Somehow as I look back on this past year, it’s more of a fog than 2020 was. Or maybe they just merge together into one big extended fog. Either way, the high points were where I could lose myself in stories, connect with my friends in the horror community and celebrate something new and exciting that we could all enjoy. Here are a few of my favorites:
Saint Maud
This film was one of my favorites out of Fantastic Fest 2019. It was supposed to come out at Easter 2020 but got bumped, like a lot of things did, and finally finally hit VOD in early 2021. Not really the journey it deserved, but I was thrilled to finally have the chance to see it again. The story of a young woman’s twisted relationship with her religion and with...

Buenos Aires-based sales and production company FilmSharks International has scored a number of deals with South Korea, France and Italy in recent days.
South Korean indie film distributor Bluelable Pictures picked up all rights to erotic thriller “Bandit Love” and plans a wide theatrical release. Don't let the title of Howard R. Cohen's Saturday the 14th fool you. Despite being released in theaters after both Friday the 13th (1980) and Friday the 13th: Part 2 (1981), Saturday the 14th has absolutely nothing to do with the iconic slasher franchise. Instead, it takes a satirical look at Hammer horror and Universal monsters, while also laying on a very thick layer of sight gags and jokes - that sometimes stick the landing. John Hyatt, the patriarch of the family, makes a sandwich - during a rather random moment in the movie - that consists of what looked like various deli meats, cheese, a tomato, and topped off with a bit of peanut butter. For any of our readers who may be interested in watching this movie after reading this retrospective, that sandwich is a lot like this movie. There are too many ideas, references, and jokes that don't mesh well together,...

Exclusive: The anticipated Train to Busan remake at New Line looks to be gaining steam as sources tell Deadline that Timo Tjahjanto is in negotiations to helm the pic based on the blockbuster South Korean hit.
Atomic Monster’s James Wan and Michael Clear and Gaumont’s Nicolas Atlan and Terry Kalagian will produce alongside Coin Operated’s Gary Dauberman, who is adapting the screenplay. Judson Scott, Sidonie Dumas, Christophe Riandee and Johanna Byer are executive producing.
The original film is a zombie apocalypse thriller directed by Sang-Ho Yeon that premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016 and quickly became an international box office hit and critical smash. It spawned a sequel, Train to Busan: Peninsula, released in 2020.
When rights to the original hit the marketplace, every studio quickly moved to grab hold of something that could ultimately become a franchise. New Line ultimately won out.

The director makes his second solo directorial debut outside of the “Mo Brothers” who made a name for themselves within horror and action with films such as “Killers“, “Macabre“, and “Headshot”. The film is based off of the cult indie horror game of the same name, developed by Digital Happiness in Bandung, Indonesia.
A teaser for the film has been released by Goodhouse along with cast information. We are awaiting more details and full plot synopsis. It is yet to be seen how closely the film will follow the content with the game as director Kimo Stramboel commented that the film will be aimed towards a more teenage audience and he wants to ensure the concepts within the game transfer well to the big screen, while respecting both mediums. Following in the footsteps of trailblazing publicity hound Carl Denham, William Castle learned that if you can’t bring your audience to the sideshow, bring the sideshow to them – the 3D craze of the 50’s allowed him to do just that.
After toying with the format in 1953’s Fort Ti and 1954’s Jesse James vs. the Daltons, the adventurous director upped the ante with even more extravagant promotional stunts for his late 50’s thrillers Macabre and House on Haunted Hill. Even the vinegary gossip columnist Louella Parsons had kind words for Haunted Hill and with its success Castle suddenly found himself spending more time on gimmicks than coherent story lines.
The first four films from that cockeyed era are collected in William Castle at Columbia – Volume One – a Blu ray set from the UK’s ever-reliable Indicator featuring some of the most memorably peculiar entertainments to ever confound and delight the neighborhood bijou.

Well, now. It would appear that this is a Mo Brothers sort of week. The Indonesian directing duo rose to prominence a decade ago now when their much loved short film Dara hit the festival circuit. And the ascent was rapid from their with debut feature, Macabre, premiering at Bifan and sophomore effort Killers launching at Sundance. The Brothers - not actually brothers, but old friends Timo Tjahjanto and Kimo Stamboel - have had a shifting relationship since with Stamboel producing a pair of Tjahjanto directed solo efforts in recent years while both went off to direct solo horror features earlier this year. Just last night Tjahjanto hosted the world premiere of his action opus The Night Comes For Us (produced by Stamboel) and the...

In one of the latest tendencies in Asian cinema, production companies from S. Korea and Japan have begun penetrating the Indonesian market, financing local filmmakers to shoot big budget productions (for the country’s standards that is). Cj Entertainment financed Joko Anwar’s “Satan Slaves” for example, while in this case, Nikkatsu funded Mike Wiluan, producer of films like “Headshot” and “Macabre”, to shoot a Western with an Indonesian flavor. The result was this particular movie.
“Buffalo Boys” is screening at the 17th New York Asian Film Festival
In 1860, Arana, Jamar and Suwo return to Indonesia after fleeing to America decades ago, following the massacre of sultan Hamza by Captain Van Trach, during an Indonesian uprising against the Dutch. The sole purpose of the three is to exact revenge from Van Trach. During their search, they stumble upon a group attacking Kiona and her grandfather, and proceed on saving the two.

It was just last month that we shared the first teaser for Mike Wiluan's upcoming Indonesian western Buffalo Boys and that has now been followed by a full theatrical trailer to serve up far more of the film's storyline and showcase some impressive action. A producer on Beyond Skyline, Dead Mine, Headshot and Macabre, Wiluan steps in to the director's chair for the first time himself here with a story set during the Dutch occupation and the return of a pair of brothers - the son's of a slain sultan - returned from a life in exile to avenge their family. It's a big story that demands a broad canvas and things are looking awfully fun in this new trailer. Take a look below!...

High-concept TV was the name of the game back on television in the 1960s. Classic TV was filled with talking horses (Mr. Ed), witches, genies, and martians living among us (Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, My Favorite Martian), nuns who could take flight thanks to their unique habit (The Flying Nun), and an annoying mom reincarnated as her son's car (My Mother the Car). And then there were two unique horror-themed sitcoms in the form of The Addams Family and The Munsters. What's interesting about those two shows is that neither ripped off the other, as they ended up repremiering the same year (1964) and being cancelled two years later. And while they were similar on surface levels, they each took a unique approach to the material. The Addams Family was based on the cartoons of Charles Addams that appeared in The New Yorker, while The Munsters took its inspiration from...

The Mo Brothers from Indonesia always deliver. Whether it's a disturbing slasher movie like Macabre or an intense thriller such as Killers, the directing team comprised of Kimo Stamboel and Timo Tjahjanto have become a force for genre filmmaking. Their latest film, Headshot, is no exception. A balls-to-the-wall actioner with plenty of insane choreography and even crazier effects on the execution, the film proves once again that, when it comes to daring works of cinema that keeps your nerves firmly in grip and your thirst for excitement quenched, this is a filmmaking team worthy of your attention. It helps that the presence of star Iko Uwais reminds you of The Raid, as well, as the action found within is every bit as intense and heart-stopping as that action classic. Uwais stars as a man who washes up on shore without any memory of who he is or what he has done.
