Exclusive: Carla Gugino (The Fall of the House of Usher) is in talks for one of four female leads in Night Electricity, an indie from her longtime collaborator Sebastian Gutierrez (Jett).
Pic’s plot is under wraps, though it’s been described as a psychological drama with thriller elements. David Lancaster is producing, with Gutierrez set direct from his own script.
Gugino recently landed a Critics Choice Award nomination for her turn as multiple characters in The Fall of the House of Usher, the acclaimed Netflix series from Mike Flanagan, with whom she’s collaborated on The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, the Stephen King adaptation Gerald’s Game and other projects. Currently, she can be seen starring on The Girls on the Bus, a political drama series that premiered on Max last month, having also been seen of late in Zelda Williams’ horror comedy Lisa Frankenstein for Focus Features.

Carla Gugino is amazing. From her early days co-starring with Pauly Shore in Son-In-Law to indies with her partner Sebastian Gutierrez, including Electra Luxx and Women in Trouble, Gugino has shirked the traditional path many Hollywood actresses have taken. The result is a career full of unique work on the big screen and small including work with filmmakers like Robert Rodriguez, Mike Flanagan (Gerald’s Game), Zack Snyder, Ridley Scott (American Gangster), and more. Her series work with Mike Flanagan has included an array of roles in The Haunting of Hill House and Bly Manor, as well as her recent turn in The Fall of the House of Usher, which garnered Gugino her first Critics Choice nomination for Best Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television.

Stuart Ford’s AGC Television has boarded the series adaptation of F.G. Haghenbeck’s novel, ‘Primavera del Mal’ (‘The Spring of Evil’) alongside Mexican-American filmmaker Fernando Lebrija of Cielo Content and Irreversible Pictures.
To be retitled “Amapola,” the upcoming historical drama series is set in the early 20th century when the Chinese held sway over the drug trade along the Mexican-u.S. border.

Their ambitions now extend beyond mere cultivation as they seek to broaden their reach and increase their political influence. However, their aspirations take an unexpected turn when American mobster Bugsy Siegel arrives in Mexico City, offering them a golden opportunity.
Situated strategically between Nogales, Mexico, and Tucson, Arizona, the Ying family steers their course through the treacherous waters of the drug trade bridging Mexico and the U.

Featuring 54 discs and a 42-minute making-of documentary, The Walking Dead: The Complete Collection will be released on October 17th, and we have a look at the full release details and cover art:

“Those About to Die,” AGC Television’s upcoming gladiator series from Roland Emmerich, stars Anthony Hopkins and boasts a cast drawn from across Europe and the Middle East. It’s also financially innovative.
Rather than rely on a single, deep-pocketed streamer to write the check for the pricey series, budgeted at $145 million for the first season, AGC adopted a split rights structure: U.S. rights are licensed to Peacock, European rights to Hep, the Herbert Kloiber Sr./Constantin joint venture, and AGC International distributing in the rest of the world.
AGC chairman and CEO Stuart Ford takes pride in proving the naysayers wrong with financing for the project set in ancient Rome and based on Daniel P. Mannix’s book of the same name.
“We’ve assembled the show’s financing through a complex and innovative web of rights deals, banking arrangements and soft money,” Ford says. “We also assembled...

One of the best feelings in the world is discovering a series or a movie that you didn’t know about and realizing how distinct it is from anything else out there. Since working at JoBlo.com, I have been lucky enough to come across several series that I enjoyed and got to tell you about them. Sometimes, I am lucky enough to talk to the talent involved about the project and how it came to be. Such is the case with the new Peacock series, Leopard Skin. After watching the excellent series Jett, creator/director Sebastian Gutierrez and star Carla Gugino were kind enough to let me know about their latest project, this half-hour crime series that debuted on Peacock recently (check out our review).
Leopard Skin can be categorized as a heist series, a thriller, a drama, or any number of labels but it thrives by not being locked down to one genre.

Plot: A criminal gang takes two women and their guests hostage when they seek shelter in a remote paradise, where secrets, betrayals and desires bubble to the surface as everyone awaits their fate.
Review: Never underestimate a well-crafted heist. A masterfully constructed plan, whether or not it goes awry, is always a sight to behold. Like a Rube-Goldberg Device or painstakingly arranged rows of dominoes, I am a sucker for a good heist story. Over the years, film and television have played home to stellar examples of this but many are focused on trying to one-up what came before rather than revel in the story itself. Sebastian Gutierrez’s latest project, the Peacock original series Leopard Skin, is a prime example of the pulpy fun you can get out of a heist and its aftermath by pitting a group of characters opposite one another with only the prospect of survival driving them.

At a time when so many crime thrillers tend toward the dark, gritty and prestige-minded, Peacock’s Leopard Skin stands out for being none of those things. While its setup sounds typical enough for the genre — a botched heist, terrified hostages, secrets and standoffs and betrayals — its execution proves to be anything but.
Created, written and directed by Sebastian Gutierrez (Jett), this series dances backward and forward in time, taking leisurely detours down semi-random rabbit holes and flights of fancy. It rarely misses an opportunity to admire the beauty of the (frequently unclothed) female form, or to plug into the crackling tension, amorous or otherwise, coursing between its characters. It’s ostensibly a drama, but one studded with oddball jokes.
All these excesses are held together not with airtight plotting, but through a hazy dream logic that at times feels downright opaque. As such,...

Carla Gugino is set as a lead opposite Melissa Benoist, Natasha Behnam and Christina Elmore in The Girls On The Bus, HBO Max’s political drama series from Warner Bros. TV and Berlanti Prods.
This marks a reunion for Gugino with Greg Berlanti; she previously starred in the Berlanti Prods./Warner Bros. Television limited series Political Animals.
The Girls On The Bus centers on Sadie McCarthy (Benoist), a journalist who romanticizes Tim Crouse’s Boys on the Bus book and who scrapped her whole life for her own shot at covering a presidential campaign for the paper of record. Sadie hits the trail and eventually bonds with three female competitors, Grace (Gugino), Lola (Behnam) and Kimberlyn (Elmore). Despite their differences, the women become a found family with a front-row seat to the greatest soap opera in town: the battle for the White House.

Carla Gugino may have done a lot of action work in two of her latest projects — the series “Jett” (now on HBO Max) and the Netflix movie “Gunpowder Milkshake” — but she’s happy to report that she made it through both productions uninjured. But a day off from filming the upcoming “Leopard Skin” in the Dominican Republic earlier this year proved catastrophic.
