Hot Chip have returned with “Fire of Mercy,” a new single featuring Yunè Pinku. Watch the visualizer for the song below.
With inquisitive lyrics like, “Do you ever stop believing/ In the things that make you feel like you?,” the new track shows off Hot Chip’s ability to explore thoughtful themes in a grooving, electronic setting. Beneath an infectious vocal melody, layers of bustling drums and samples create a rhythmic engine, elevating the tune to a cruising altitude of “vibey.”
As for the song’s meaning, the band’s Joe Goddard explained: “‘Fire of Mercy’ relates to the central concept of William Blake’s Songs of Experience — it bemoans the corruption that inevitably comes from adulthood and longs for a return to the purity of childhood.” For her part, Pinku added: “Massive honor to work with Hot Chip, as they’re huge legends within the electronic world. The fallout from the allegations of systematic abuse against Scott Rudin has extended to his ongoing projects. Earlier today, the top producer issued a statement saying that he was “stepping back from my film and streaming projects in addition to my work on Broadway.” (He had issued a similar statement about the Broadway shows he produces over the weekend.)
Rudin’s carefully worded statement excluded What We Do in the Shadows as it is a show on an ad-supported network, FX.
Reps for neither Rudin nor FX and series producer FX Prods. have responded to Deadline requests seeking comment on Rudin’s continuous involvement in Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi’s acclaimed mockumentary comedy horror television series.
Last year, Rudin shared an Oustanding Comedy Series Emmy nomination for the show, which stems from a big first-look look he had with the former Fox Networks Group, which included FX. That pact has since expired.

After presenting a list of hot TV series with the grim central trend of “we may survive” last year, the folks at The Wit identified “we are all survivors” as the main theme running through this year’s Fresh TV fiction selection.
Presented at MipTV by Wit CEO and co-founder Virginia Mouseler, the 2021 selection is headlined by Russell T. Davies’ Channel 4 drama “It’s a Sin,” which Mouseler described as “era defining.”
“It’s the series I found the most tragic, the most moving, the most stimulating this season. It’s a story of survival, but above all it’s a story of liberation,” Mouseler said.
The list is littered with serial killer and abduction dramas, with crime and cop shows in general making up around 70% of the selections.
One might have expected more comedies or escapist fare, given the world’s pandemic predicament, but Mouseler and company only selected...

Keshet International has come on board as sales agent on the drama-comedy “Pørni.” The six-part Norwegian show, produced by Monster Scripted for Nent Group’s streamer Viaplay, is world premiering as part of Berlinale Series Market Selects.
“Lilyhammer” actor Henriette Steenstrup makes her debut as creator/writer on top of headlining the show. Gunnar Vikene (“Occupied”) and Charlotte Blom (“Next Summer”) serve as co-directors. The cast also includes Nils Ole Oftebro (“Mammon”), Gunnar Eiriksson (“Twin“), Johanna Mørck (“Trollhunter”) and Vivid Falk Berg.
Steenstrup plays childcare worker and single mum Pørni, who struggles to please everyone at home – her two teenage daughters, 15-year-old nephew and aging father – with no quality time with any of them. She also has to deal with a hopeless ex-husband and the loss of her sister who recently passed away. “ ‘Pørni’ is a drama about everyday dilemmas you find yourself in when, to the best of your ability,...
