Welcome to It’s a Hit! In this series, IndieWire speaks to creators and showrunners behind a few of our favorite television programs about the moment they realized their show was breaking big.
“It did feel like the Avengers assembling,” said executive producer Sam Rees-Jones of casting the first all-celebrity edition of “The Traitors” on Peacock. “We knew in Season 2 we wanted to assemble an all celebrity cast knowing that that would create a buzz as well, and would help build on the success of Season 1,” said executive producer Mike Cotton.
The pair, based in the United Kingdom, told IndieWire over Zoom that another key change for the second season of the reality competition series where “faithful” contestants try to weed out who among them are traitors before the latter steal all the money they earned from completing missions was changing the way in which the episodes were rolled out.

Classic TV shows are still loved and appreciated by the masses today.
We all have specific go-to favorites we have seen many times over but never seem to get sick of watching.
Certain technological advancements didn't exist when classic TV shows were produced, such as the ability to pause, rewind, or record episodes.
Those advancements have since changed how we can view our favorite classic shows.
While binge-watching is not always great for enjoying modern programs, it is another advancement that can offer new insights into classic shows that are fun to explore.
The Attraction of Classic TV
Whether it's a 1950s show like Lassie or a 1980s show like The Facts of Life, there is something inherently special about a classic TV show.
Watching one is like eating comfort food.
Experts say classic shows are so attractive because humans are social creatures. We want to form connections with other people.

Ross Matthews wasn’t three words into his opening monologue at the 35th annual GLAAD Awards in New York City Saturday evening when a protester stood up from the audience to shout, “GLAAD is complicit in genocide.” The lone pro-Palestine advocate, blanketed by a wide-eyed room who let out a few jeers — “Who are you, you weirdo?” one donor shouted — was slowly, if not ceremoniously escorted from the room before she gave a final jab: “And so are all of you.”
“Thank you for your free speech. I’m so glad you have freedom,” Matthews, the evening’s host, said from the stage in an awkward attempt to recognize the protester. “Well, that was uncomfy for all of us, but we have to fight for everyone’s rights. Thank you for my opener,” he moved on, back on his feet.

“We just crowned our season 16 winner, Nymphia Wind,” Kressley dished. “So many of the contestants are a little overwhelmed by being there amidst those competitors and being judged by [RuPaul], and I think Nymphia had such a great trajectory of starting out a little slow, but I loved her fashion references, her workmanship, the looks she created were mind-blowing.”

Nearly 20 years ago in New York City, a young, restless, teenaged Julia Fox would wait patiently for her neighbors to throw out their trash before sneaking down to the basement and scavenging the recycling bins for magazines she could use to make collages. She would skip over the copy and head straight to the photos — oftentimes of models and streetstyle fashion — and use scissors and glue to reimagine the most striking images into her own creation.
“I guess in a way I was making a vision board… but like, not really” Fox tells me, dragging her last syllable in a long, seductive rasp. We’re sitting across from each other in a suite at the Jw Marriott looking over Central Park, only a few long blocks from the Upper East Side neighborhood of Yorkville where she spent much of her childhood, often squatting in whichever vacant apartment her dad was working on as a contractor.

“I mean, there’s just nothing that can prepare you for the experience of Drag Race, because it is an experience of its own,” Season 16 queen Q said during a panel at Deadline’s Contenders TV: Documentary + Unscripted awards-season event.
After 16 seasons, MTV’s RuPaul’s Drag Race still manages to keep contestants and viewers on their toes — even when they’ve been vying for a spot for years, like Season 16 queen Sapphira Cristál.
“I auditioned for RuPaul’s Drag Race 11 times, and so I had a lot of time to prepare,” she said, explaining that each rejection only made her want it more. She used every year that passed as an opportunity to improve her craft in some way — whether it be her looks, her dance moves, her sewing even her mental health.

The ninth season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” promises a major shake-up to the classic formula when it premieres on Friday, May 17, 2024 on Paramount Plus. For the first time ever, the eight returning contestants will be competing not for their own prize money, but for a $200,000 donation to the charity of their choice. Also of note, these Season 9 queens will never be at risk of elimination, which follows the structure previously seen on Season 7 (the all-winners cycle).
For three of the competitors, this will be their third time taking part on a “Drag Race” installment; the other five are all back for their second time. Who is Your favorite queen from this group? Nick Taylor and Cláudio Alves watch and recap RuPaul’s Drag Race season sixteen. This week, it’s time for the grand finale…
Look at those ponytails! Sasha Colby's impact is immeasurable.
CLÁUDIO: Better late than never, amirite? Well, even if I’m not, please pretend.
Many days have passed since season sixteen drew to a close, with Taiwan goddess Nymphia Wind crowned America’s next drag superstar. It was a conclusion I wished for but wasn’t expecting, thinking Philly had the win secured up until those final minutes. After all, nothing in the season’s edit positioned the Banana Buddha as a threat, mostly ignoring her to the point she was invisible for a couple of episodes in the middle. On the other hand, Sapphira had winner energy from the go, a notion bolstered by the judges’ unvarying praise and four wins to her name. It’s easy...

Known in some circles as the “fan favorite” award, the title of Miss Congeniality on “RuPaul’s Drag Race” is a prize handed out to the queen most representative of kindness and for having strong sisterly bonds with the other girls. Up until Season 10, the award was voted on by the audience, but has since been selected by the cast members themselves, and is buttressed by a cash prize that has ranged from $1,500 to $10,000. Due to a historic tie in Season 16 between Sapphira Cristal and Xunami Muse, there have now been 17 total contestants awarded the title, many of whom have returned to compete at least one more time on various “All Stars” cycles. Which “fan favorite” queen is Your all-time fave? Read on for the “RuPaul’s Drag Race” Miss Congeniality winners. Gallery originally published April 2023.
