There are many things that every person goes through in life, both pleasant and very unpleasant. One of the things you'd rather leave to the enemy is going through a painful breakup.
It may sound silly to some people, but it is one of the most devastating things that can happen to a person. Your whole life comes crashing down and you find yourself completely lost.
In moments like this, the only thing you can do is focus on yourself, but that's just too hard to do when you're freshly heartbroken. So maybe instead you should watch a bunch of movies to help you forget that your ex ever existed?
Here's a list of movies that solve the problem perfectly, despite being so different.
1. The Thing (1982)

Hawkeye feels like Marvel Studios' most underrated TV show in many ways. While not every subplot hit the mark (Swordsman's peculiar role in the finale felt like a last-minute change), Hailee Steinfeld and Florence Pugh stole the show as Kate Bishop and Yelena Belova, and Vincent D'Onofrio made his surprise MCU return as The Kingpin.
Oh, and we were blessed with Rogers: The Musical, of course!
There's been no word on a second season, though Jeremy Renner's life-threatening snow plow accident and last year's WGA/SAG AFTRA strikes will have done little to help matters.
Steinfeld made a surprise appearance in The Marvels where she was recruited by Ms. Marvel to what many believe will be the McU's take on the Young Avengers. However, if scooper @MyTimeToShineH is to be believed, the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse star will suit up as Kate again in Hawkeye season 2.

Mullet Madjack is what you get when you combine Kung Fury with Crank and set it against a 1980s anime backdrop. Playing like a combination of a roguelike Hotline Miami meets classic Doom, the game is fast, frenetic, and brutal. If you could somehow infuse the feeling of cocaine and 80s excess into a cyberpunk video game, it would look a lot like Mullet Madjack.
HAMMER95, the small team of Brazilian developers that conceived and developed Mullet MadJack should be very proud of the piece of Fps sensory overload that they have created, even if it isn’t perfect in every aspect. Choosing to lean into the inherent cheese and gimmicky nature of the era that the game is inspired by was definitely the right call.
Mullet Madjack releases for PC on May 15 2024.
The opening cutscene immediately displays the impeccable level of presentation that is consistent throughout the entire game.

Long before headlining Amazon Prime’s The Boys series as Billy Butcher, Karl Urban attempted to lead a comic book film Dredd. The film was based on the comic strip Judge Dredd created by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra for the 2000 Ad comic magazine. However, Urban’s film was not the first adaptation of Judge Dredd, as Sylvester Stallone did it first in his 1995 film of the same name.
Karl Urban as Judge Dredd in Dredd (2012)
Even though both the Judge Dredd films underperformed financially, Karl Urban had an upper hand. Urban’s version was liked by critics and is also regarded as a cult classic by fans. Even the home media sales of Dredd were impressive.
It looks like The Boys fame already expected his film to be on higher ground as he had a savage message for Sylvester Stallone on the release of his remake.

Sylvester Stallone was famously cast as Judge Dredd years before Karl Urban took up the role. But although Stallone was his predecessor, Urban quipped Stallone’s feelings would have little affect on his own thoughts.

Stallone explored the comic book genre when he was cast as the titular character Judge Dredd. The actor played a law authority in a corrupt future where he was judge, jury, and executioner to all criminals. In Jane Killick’s The Making of Judge Dredd, it was revealed that Stallone was the first choice for the role. Stallone took to the initial draft of the script immediately.

Greg Daniels and Michael Koman could return to The Office universe, with Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus) as cast members of the proposed spinoff. Gleeson and Inpacciatore would be part of an ensemble for the project, which Deadline says is close to entering production. Plot details about The Office spinoff remain a mystery.
We know only a little about the project beyond its setting in The Office universe. Daniels wants fans to know it’s not a reboot, even though it takes place in the same arena as the Steve Carell-led mockumentary series focusing on the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Company employees. Daniels says the new show could feature a camera crew doing a documentary about a subject outside the day-to-day lives of office workers surviving the daily grind and their toxic boss.
Domhnall Gleeson launched his acting career in 2001 as a character named Byrne in an episode of Rebel Heart.

Alex Garland is a director who you either love or hate. But regardless of how you feel about him, it’s likely you can’t stop arguing about him. And the English filmmaker has certainly given audiences something to argue about again with his latest film, “Civil War.”
Set in an unspecified future/alternate history, “Civil War” focuses on an armed conflict across America that has caused the nation to splinter. But what exactly caused the conflict, as well as what the opposing militias are fighting for, is a question the movie — which takes the form of a travelogue journeying with a group of reporters across America and through the bloodshed — has absolutely zero interest in answering. Instead, Garland zeroes in on recreating scenes of violence that Americans have witnessed via photographs and video on foreign soil, now in a much closer context, in an effect that’s alternatively been...

Actress Kirsten Dunst headlines Alex Garland’s political thriller Civil War. The film sees Dunst play the role of a photojournalist during a second Civil War in America which prompts Texas and California to secede from the USA and try to overthrow the government. The film also stars Nick Offerman, Wagner Moura, and Stephen McKinley Henderson.
Apart from the main cast, the film also features Jesse Plemons as a white nationalist militiaman. Plemons reportedly appears in one scene in the film, which was reportedly extremely uncomfortable for the cast and crew. It was reportedly more so for Dunst as she is married to Plemons.

Alex Garland may have said that he’s not planning to direct again in the foreseeable future, but he is currently directing another film while his movie Civil War heads out into the world and he works on the scripts for the upcoming 28 Years Later trilogy (a follow-up to his Danny Boyle collaboration 28 Days Later). Garland’s new directorial effort is called Warfare, and he’s co-directing it with Ray Mendoza, who served as the military supervisor for Civil War. Garland and Mendoza also wrote the screenplay together. As Warfare moves forward, Deadline has just revealed the names of several cast members: Noah Centineo (The Recruit), Michael Gandolfini (The Many Saints of Newark), Taylor John Smith (Where the Crawdads Sing), Adain Bradley (Wrong Turn), Henrique Zaga (The Stand), and Evan Holtzman (Hidden Figures).

Box office preview: Alex Garland’s ‘Civil War’ will try its best not to divide the moviegoing nation
After a quieter April opening weekend, we get a slightly busier one with one high profile wide release and a handful of smaller releases. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
The big release of the weekend is “Civil War,” filmmaker Alex Garland‘s fourth feature film as a director, and one that is reportedly A24’s biggest budget production, reportedly costing $50 million. Set in a dystopian war-torn future America, the movie stars Oscar nominee Kirsten Dunst and Cailee Spaeny from “Priscilla” as two wartime journalists heading to D.C. to interview the President (Nick Offerman), who is about to be deposed by a group of opposing rebels. The movie also stars Jesse Plemons, Wagner Moura and Stephen McKinley Henderson.

Before making a splash as a feature film director, Alex Garland wrote two of Danny Boyle’s great films 28 Days Later, and Sunshine. In the 2010s, he wrote the Andrew Garfield romance film Never Let Me Go and the modern iteration of Judge Dredd titled Dredd. He made his directorial debut with the sci-fi thriller Ex-Machina which has been considered one of the best sci-fi films of the 2010s.

After a successful premiere in March, Alex Garland’s upcoming dystopian action thriller Civil War is preparing for its April 12, 2024 theatrical release. The movie promises to be a very interesting take on a (not so) alternative America, plagued by a civil war between the separatist “Western Forces” led by Texas and California and the government. This “Second American Civil War” will be shown through the eyes of a journalist who travels around the country, experiencing the horrors of war.
The official synopsis for the movie describes the plot as follows: “A journey across a dystopian future America, following a team of military-embedded journalists as they race against time to reach DC before rebel factions descend upon the White House.”
The movie has some big names attached to the project, as many fans are eagerly awaiting the upcoming premiere. The cast of the movie includes:

Another gorgeous new supercut video created & edited by the talented Luís Azevedo. The Colours Of Alex Garland (it's spelled "colours" because Little White Lies is a UK film magazine) is a supercut looking at the many colors and images in Alex Garland movies – a sci-fi visionary. They created this for the upcoming release of Alex Garland's latest movie Civil War, opening in theaters worldwide this April. Civil War is the fourth movie he has directed, following Ex Machina (2014), Annihilation (2018), and Men (2022); he also directed the series "Devs" (2022) for FX / Hulu. Before getting into directing, Garland also wrote the scripts for 28 Days Later (2002), Sunshine (2007), Never Let Me Go (2010), and Dredd (2012) - though none of these are included in this supercut. The video also uses the "ambient" color mode feature where a solid color appears around the video in the middle of the frame. Just makes me want to watch all of these movies again.

Throughout cinematic history, audiences have been enthralled by an array of villainous characters, ranging from the intellectually formidable to the utterly deranged. While many villains adhere to conventional tropes, there are those whose portrayal transcends cliches, etching a lasting impression on viewers’ minds.
Heath Ledger as the Joker in The Dark Knight
One such character is the Joker, whose many interpretations so far have showcased the immense talent of the actors who brought him to life. Cesar Romero’s portrayal in the 1960s Batman television series marked the character’s first appearance, setting a playful yet sinister tone. However, it was Heath Ledger’s portrayal in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight that truly redefined the role. Bill Skarsgård has quickly become an actor whose very presence in a film suggests something twisted is about to go down -- that's what happens when you play a child-eating clown monster in two of the highest-grossing horror movies of all time. But where "Barbarian" cleverly used that foreknowledge to subvert audience expectations and "John Wick: Chapter 4" embraced it by casting the "It" star as the slimeball Marquis Vincent Bisset de Gramont, Moritz Mohr splits the difference in his feature directing debut, "Boy Kills World." Instead of casting Skarsgård as a blood-thirsty killer, the film casts him as a righteous killer in the vein of John Wick himself. And you know what? It might just work!
While it didn't exactly blow critics away last year during its premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, "Boy Kills World" still managed to garner praise for its distinct blend of bloody slapstick action and irreverent comedy.

Did you hear the news? No, not about the rapid decline of the American empire and everything it's supposed to stand for. We knew that's been happening for quite some time now. Rather, the big eye-opener here is that indie studio A24 is about to get into the action blockbuster business -- with, of all people, one of our boldest and most introspective filmmakers around.
Then again, maybe there's a sense of poetry in Alex Garland and A24 teaming up once more for their most politically charged production yet. Netflix viewers are an unpredictable bunch. One minute they'll lap up a truly abject Michael Fassbender thriller, the next they'll propel the excellent "Dredd" into the Netflix Top 10. The only logical conclusion to all this is that in the age of streaming, we'll pretty much watch anything as our senses are slowly dulled by a never ending supply of "content." Still, we might as well be mildly entertained as we drift towards this bland hellscape of mediocre streaming films and AI-written movies, and this week, Netflix has provided.
This time, Fassbender is nowhere in sight. Instead, we've got "X" causing a minor stir on the Netflix charts. A24 and Ti West's 2022 effort is a slick and stunning original slasher which actually enjoyed a good critical response upon release. 94% on Rotten Tomatoes ain't bad, after all. While you might not expect a film about an elderly woman who lays waste...

With Civil War set for release this spring, Alex Garland is to direct again, this time an ‘untitled war movie’. More here.
In the summer of 2022, when he was promoting his pretty unforgettable horror Men, Alex Garland was giving the impression of a man done with directing movies. He’s credited with directing Ex Machina and Annihilation and was reported to have finished up 2012’s Dredd. Then, following Men, he launched straight into making Civil War, which is due for release in April.
However, if he was looking to step away from the director’s chair, it sounds as if the plan is at the very least on hold: according to Deadline, he’s just signed up to another project.
It’s going by the codename ‘Untitled War Movie’, and from that, I’m going to hazard a guess that it’s a war film, for which these is not yet a name.

Duncan Jones is back with a brand new project titled Rogue Trooper, an animated adaptation of the same-titled comic book from 2000 Ad.
Variety reports, “The animated film, which is being created with Epic’s 3D tool Unreal Engine 5, was adapted by Jones from the comic book published by 2000 Ad.
“Rogue Trooper, produced by Rebellion and Liberty Films, has wrapped principal photography at Rebellion Film Studios in the U.K. The film is set to be finished next year.”
“Rogue Trooper tells the story of 19, a “Genetic Infantryman,” who finds himself the sole-survivor of an invasion force. Desperate to track down the traitor who sold him and his comrades out, the super soldier is accompanied by three killed-in-action squad mates, whose personalities have been stored in his gun, helmet and rucksack.”
Aneurin Barnard, Hayley Atwell, Jack Lowden, Daryl McCormack and Reece Shearsmith are attached to star, with Variety noting that Barnard will play the title character.

Hayley Atwell has reportedly joined the cast of director Duncan Jones’ animated Rogue Trooper movie, based on the 2000 Ad comic strip of the same name. It’s even wrapped filming!
Word that Moon and Source Code director Duncan Jones was attached to a film adaptation of the 2000 Ad comic strip Rogue Trooper first broke over five years ago, before the world descended into a maelstrom of global disease, military invasions and AI-driven societal collapse – exactly the sort of dystopian stuff you might expect to find in those British sci-fi comics.
After years of eerie silence, though, it sounds as though the adaptation is much further along than we’d previously thought, with Variety reporting that Rogue Trooper has been cast and is already well into production. It’ll star Aneurin Barnard as the title’s genetically-enhanced super soldier. Supporting him will be Hayley Atwell, Jack Lowden (who also appeared in...

Mortal Kombat director Simon McQuoid is back at the helm for the sequel Mortal Kombat 2, which recently wrapped production after a bumpy ride through the year of the strikes. This film will be bringing popular video game character Johnny Cage to the screen, with Karl Urban of Dredd, Star Trek, and The Boys taking on the role. Despite Urban’s established awesomeness, he was an unexpected choice for Johnny Cage, and there are some fans who have let it be known that they would have chosen someone else to play the part. We’ll have to wait and see how it turned out, but one thing we know right now is that Urban had a great time working on the movie, calling it “most action packed fun I’ve ever had on a film!”

There’s an argument to be made that thought-provoking writer/director Alex Garland is the most influential sci-fi filmmaker of his generation. He wrote Danny Boyle’s “28 Days Later“(2002) and “Sunshine” (2007), Mark Romanek’s “Never Let Me Go” (2010), and “Dredd” (2012), and then he made the jump to directing with daring movies like “Ex-Machina,” “Annihilation” and the horror “Men”.

More than a decade after its release, the comic book movie Dredd has gone from box-office disappointment to a cult classic. The movie’s star has, in part, risen because of the rise of its star, Karl Urban, who has gone on to star in the rebooted Star Trek film series, along with the popular streaming series The Boys. But when “Dredd” came out in 2012, it was notable mainly for being a reboot itself (of 1995’s Sylvester Stallone vehicle Judge Dredd). At the time of Dredd’s release, Urban spoke about his discussions with the movie’s producer, writer, and director, and how excited he was about doing the movie. Welcome to Sales to Astonish, a new column in association with comics retailer The Unreality Store, in which Matthew De Monti brings us news on comic sales and the general moves in the comic market over the past month or so!
Having written this column for over a year now I am starting to notice some distinctive trends in my monthly activity throughout the year. I had touched on elements of this in previous instalments but in a nutshell the trends can be defined as simply as this:
Busy months – January, March, May, October, November & December Busy days – Monday & Thursday Busiest hours – 6-8am Thursday
It will come as no surprise to regular readers that the busiest hours in the week immediately follow the release of new stock in the store on a Thursday. At a guess I would say that Monday is busy because people casually browse the website...

What do you get when you combine Pierce Brosnan, Nick Cannon, and some people called Jamie Chung, Hermione Corfield, Rockmond Dunbar, Rami Jaber, and Mike Angelo? A massive flop, apparently. In a way, it's a shame "The Misfits" bombed back in 2021. The film made a meager $1.5 million on a reported budget of $15 million, but despite the abject box office and even worse reviews, it was at least propelled by decent enough intentions.
Director Renny Harlin, who's also overseeing the upcoming "Strangers" trilogy series, grew up in Finland loving Hollywood action movies and thrillers, and managed to accomplish the impossible by breaking into the U.S. film market and establishing himself as a big name director. Philip Glass has been composing soundscapes of ambient intrigue for documentary filmmaker Errol Morris for decades, from the groundbreaking true-crime doc “The Thin Blue Line” to the Robert McNamara portrait “The Fog of War.” Now, the three-time Oscar-nominated modernist composer and co-writer Paul Leonard-Morgan have crafted the original score for Morris’ John le Carré documentary “The Pigeon Tunnel,” the Apple TV+ documentary that opens Friday, October 20. Also premiering that day will be the film’s original soundtrack from Platoon, and IndieWire shares an exclusive track off the album below.
“It is our pleasure to share ‘The Pigeon Tunnel’ soundtrack,” said Philip Glass and Paul Leonard-Morgan, adding that “the orchestral journey this score took us on, combing the cimbalom of ’60s espionage soundtracks with symphonic orchestral work, led to 80 minutes of score, almost the entirety of the film.”

Thanks to Netflix, every week another bygone movie flickers into our consciousness like some long-forgotten dream, lingers momentarily, then fades into the recesses of our collective memory. It's like our cultural life is flashing before our eyes before we all tumble into oblivion... Anyway, while we're on the theme of existential horror, this week we've got a scary movie for you that's winning over the Netflix crowd.
"Deliver Us from Evil" is a 2014 horror effort from director Scott Derrickson, of "The Black Phone," "Doctor Strange," and "Sinister" fame. "The Black Phone" is, of course, one of the best Joe Hill adaptations, and "Sinister" is the scariest movie ever, according to science. So, you might expect "Deliver Us From Evil" to be quite good if you've yet to see it. Alas, perhaps it's the lack of involvement from Derrickson's longtime writing partner C. If you go to the multiplex, it’s not surprising that some sort of sequel to a previous film will be playing. Now, studios consider IP (Intellectual Property) as the big selling point rather than well-crafted storylines or impressive visuals. This alone will pull people into the theater. If the movie happens to have the other two things, then great. This wasn’t always the case.
There was a time when making a sequel was looked at as a hack idea, and most studios passed on the idea. That’s a shame, as there are a lot of great classic movies that deserve a sequel. Even some films that have come out when sequels were popular still missed getting another chance at the big screen. Which movies deserved a sequel?

Peaky Blinders was conjured out of stories its creator Steven Knight was told as a child. Larger-than-life images from his parents’ Birmingham families had been burnt onto his nine-year-old mind. A mountain of silver coins piled on a table in a shabby terraced house. Bare-knuckle boxers bound at the wrists and pushed into the canal for losing a fight. Gypsy horse fairs. Barefoot children running messages for illegal bookmakers. A pub called The Chain whose only drinkers were factory women who’d beat any man who dared enter. And immaculately dressed gang members who’d swapped the mud of their WWI uniforms for crisp creases and sharp tailoring. It was all magic and glamour, to the mind of a child.
That was how Peaky Blinders chose to present the past on screen – as somewhere heightened, glamorous and now. It wanted to evoke in its viewer the awe of a kid marvelling at unforgettable things.

Tomorrow, “Barbie” (Warner Bros.) will make its home-viewing debut at $24.99 for rental, $29.99 for digital download, and will presumably sweep all #1 positions for weeks to come. The extent may depend on the as-yet undated PVOD arrivals of “Oppenheimer,” “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning: Part One,” and “Sound of Freedom.”
For now, our usual chart lineup is down one list: Google Play mysteriously has the same films in the same order for more than a week. In that universe, “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” is still #1 while “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” has yet to chart.

Other #1 slots reflect the ways iTunes and Vudu calculate their lists. “No Hard Feelings” (Sony), which had an early rental price reduction to $5.99 after success at $19.99, is #1 on iTunes, which calculates by transactions. Just-released R-rated comedy “Strays” (Universal) leads at Vudu, which ranks by revenue.

In an ideal world, Netflix's weekly Top 10 would make it easier for films that didn't deserve to flop at the box office to connect with viewers. That's not the case, of course. Instead, the streamer's weekly list of its most-watched films is typically dominated by oddities or forgettable genre movies from years past. Every once in a while, however, the Netflix algorithm gets it right and either breathes fresh life into a treasured gem or, in this week's case, further affirms a film's well-earned cult status.

Sylvester Stallone believed that George Lucas’ Star Wars caused a huge shift in the film industry. To the actor, the technology used in the sci-fi films had an understated side-effect on action movies as a whole.

Stallone has always put in a lot of thought and emotion into his action roles. One of the reasons he held one of his first action films, First Blood, in such high regard was because of his performance. Stallone’s mercenary John Rambo had little dialogue in the feature. The actor used his solid physique to emote his character’s feelings.
“That’s why I think First Blood is one of the first action films. I relied on body acting to tell the story. The character never talks, but you know exactly what’s going on through the other characters.
