Major improvement over the last entry

This latest entry in the popular Daydream Obsession soft-core gay interest series is manna from heaven after the last misfire and a welcome addition to a genre desperately in need of more entries. Make no mistake - this is not Shakespeare nor does it pretend to be. It is merely a gay interest realization of some the best of the straight late-night soft-core epics that used to proliferate on cable. In short, if you are not interested in seeing the hot guys in various states of undress, then you are definitely in the wrong film. The film retains most of the strong points from the original, while improving in several areas and virtually eliminates all of the issues that plagued the crummy second entry. A fresh cast certainly helps. Matthew Stephen Herrick is the central character of Wylie - a college-age guy who has arrived to spend some R&R with his recently divorced dad Dan. While Dan chases down women to capture the youth he missed out on with his ex-wife and raising Wylie as a teenage dad, Wylie stumbles upon the video diaries kept by the original's Clayton confessing his issues with being a closet homosexual and pining for his straight best friend. This strikes a chord with Wylie who himself is grappling with many of the same issues and has a crush on his straight roommate, who eventually decides to join Wylie on the mini-vacation. The plot functions merely as what it is meant to do - provide an adequate framing device for set pieces that denude the male cast. The filmmakers have wisely lightened the tone for this entry and supply an able cast - some of whom can actually act. Herrick, in particular, is surprisingly natural as the inhibited leading man. He conveys Wylie's confusion and desires and makes him an appealing character, even when he may not behave entirely admirably. Ronnie Kerr as the best friend fits the material well as the idealized jock crush and is game for anything the film throws his way. Jack Saber is also notable as the dad. Initially coming off as a bit of an overgrown kid, he ultimately reveals himself to be a surprisingly supportive and mature father figure. The film's raison d'etre is without question male nudity and it delivers in spades. The guys all look incredible and the filmmakers do not allow the scenes to spin out of control this time. Herrick (who is a lot less shy than the original's Joe Dain) provides a nice skinnydipping scene - interrupted to his embarrassment by a neighbor. Refreshingly, the filmmakers also provide nudity for Saber's handsome 40-ish dad. However, the film's selling point and the linchpin of the plot is the sequence where Kerr's hunky crush passes out drunk and the curious Herrick - sweaty angst at the boiling point - cannot stop himself from undressing him to get a look. An incredibly erotic sequence well done by all involved. If the film does have any notable weakness, it is the surprisingly (and refreshingly) upbeat ending which only works if one believes that the entire world is adult and reasonable - including straight jocks. This entry once again treads into the realms of guilty pleasure with absolutely no apologies and it is definitely worth a view by audience members willing to revel in its displays of male beauty.
