Sebastian Stan is no stranger to governmental subterfuge on screen. In fact, a decade ago he was causing international incidents in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, caught up in a conspiracy that went all the way to the top. But for his next role – firmly away from the MCU – he’s playing a guy who was at the very top for four long years. Yes, in Ali Abbasi’s The Apprentice, Stan will be playing a young Donald Trump – and the film has just unveiled a first-look image, which you can see above.
We know – it’s upsetting to see someone as likeable on-screen as Sebastian Stan playing someone as [Redacted] as Donald J. Trump. Frankly, we’d sooner be mates with his cannibalistic killer from 2022’s Fresh. Starring alongside Stan in The Apprentice are Jeremy Strong as Roy Cohn (also seen in the image), with Tenet’s Martin Donovan as the elder Fred Trump,...

Forgive the broadness of this Generation X boast, but the ‘90s were just different. Were they a simpler time? Perhaps. Were they a better time? Objectively yes, absolutely. At least in terms of pop culture, and again … that’s not really up for debate, that’s just a fact! At the very least, television was objectively stellar in the 1990s.
If that weren’t the case, then why is Friends one of the most streamed shows for teens recently? Why has the Fresh Prince reimagining worked? And most importantly: why is the greatest Saturday morning cartoon of all time making a Disney-fied comeback in X-Men ‘97?
X-Men: The Animated Series (1992-1997) was one of the strongest entries in the history of comic book adaptations simply because it was a rare mix of solid animation (for at least four of those seasons), brilliant storytelling (being able to pull from 30 years of...

On Valentine’s Day, we get reminded of the reassuring phrase, “There is someone out there for everyone.” Well, when it comes to movies, the same is true: For every film, there’s at least some who genuinely like it — even Madame Web, which opened nationally on the romantic holiday to scathing reviews and a modest box office.
So while critics and superhero fans online continue to pile on (including The Hollywood Reporter … and perhaps too much), and in the spirit of showing a little love, we sifted through the 21 positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes (where the film currently sits at 13 percent “Fresh”) to get some alternative opinions about the Sony-Marvel title, which stars Dakota Johnson as a New York paramedic who develops psychic powers.
It’s worth remembering even truly disastrous films can entertain — Paul Verhoeven’s much-derided 1995 film Showgirls, for example, is famously hilarious when viewed as an unintended comedy.

Fresh Air radio co-host Tonya Mosley is set to launch the She Has a Name podcast next month, about a young Detroit mother lost amid that city’s economic collapse and crack cocaine epidemic.
The 10-part documentary podcast from Apm Studios will kick off March 28. Mosley, who grew up in Detroit in the 1980s and ’90s and is now co-host of Fresh Air With Terry Gross and Tonya Mosley, is joined by her nephew, Antonio Wiley, to tell a story of family disconnection and healing.
The origins of the podcast, which blends investigative journalism and memoir, came in 1987 when Detroit firefighters discovered the remains of an unidentified young woman in a vacant house deliberately set on fire.
Buried in a cemetery as “Unknown Woman 1987,” it took a DNA program 30 years later to identify the young woman’s remains as those of Anita — the mother of Antonio Wiley and the sister...

It’s the battle of the TV Cromwells! On BBC One later this year, Mark Rylance returns in the role of Henry VIII’s right hand man in series two of Wolf Hall, adapted from Dame Hilary Mantel’s acclaimed novels. But before then, Sean Bean will play Thomas Cromwell in Disney+ British historical crime mystery Shardlake.
(Incidentally, if Bean wanted to dispel his reputation for playing characters who meet sticky, early ends, then his agent may want to get their head in a history book before forwarding the next script…)
Thomas Cromwell is a supporting role in Shardlake, a new four-part series adapted from the first in C.J Sansom’s successful mystery novels about Matthew Shardlake, a 16th century lawyer born with what would now be understood as scoliosis, and who investigates murder mysteries for the Crown.
Working for Cromwell, Shardlake must navigate the dangers of his powerful boss...

The Sundance Film Festival on Sunday night hosted the world premiere of Aaron Schimberg’s A Different Man starring Sebastian Stan, Adam Pearson and The Worst Person in the World breakout Renate Reinsve in her first American film.
Stan toplines the A24 release as an aspiring actor, Edward, who undergoes a radical medical procedure to drastically transform his appearance. But a new face turns into a nightmare when it causes him to lose a dream role he was born to play when the playwright/object of his affections, Reinsve, replaces him with someone who looks nearly identical to his former self, Pearson, a man with a disfigured face.
As for Pearson, he lives with neurofibromatosis (type 1), a rare genetic condition that causes excess body tissue to grow predominantly on his face. The condition fuels the plot of A Different Man and the actor, Pearson, actually inspired the film after having...

In a cinematic landscape filled with talent, certain performances stand out. From the quiet intensity of Greta Lee in Past Lives to the commanding presence of Taraji P. Henson in The Color Purple, this collection of actors make up some of my favorite performances of the year of films I saw. Each actor brings a unique energy and emotional depth to their roles to not only define their characters but elevate them.
These are not in any particular order.
Greta Lee & Teo Yoo, Past Lives
Lee beautifully navigates the delicate emotional journey put forth in Celine Song’s script. She embodies Nora’s quiet longing with a subtlety, her expressive eyes and gentle smile hinting at the depths of unsaid feelings. When faced with the ghosts of the yesterday, Lee unleashes a rawness that both devastates and resonates, reminding us of the vulnerability it takes to confront the paths not taken.

Get ready to see “The Kardashians” standing next to Baby Yoda on your Disney+ home screen.
Beginning Dec. 6, the significant majority of Hulu content will be available on Disney+ in the U.S. for subscribers of both services. It’s phase one of the Disney+/Hulu integration plan, first outlined by CEO Bob Iger earlier this year. The initial “beta” of Hulu on Disney+ will be followed by the launch of a more integrated version in March 2024.
Disney’s expectation is that by mixing Hulu programming into Disney+, customers will spend more time overall watching stuff — thereby cutting churn and customer-acquisition costs, as Iger said on the company’s earnings call last month. Next year, the Mouse House intends to begin promoting Disney+/Hulu bundles more aggressively.

Sebastian Stan will play a younger version of Donald Trump in a film that is set to explore ‘power, corruption and deception’ in a period New York City movie.
Sebastian Stan (pictured here in Fresh) will be taking on his most controversial role yet in The Apprentice: playing a younger version of the hugely divisive Donald Trump.
Whilst Stan is perhaps known best for playing Bucky, the brooding Winter Soldier in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, beyond that role he’s not averse to the odd creative risk.
Along with Lily James (who portrayed Pamela Anderson), his version of rock star Tommy Lee in Hulu’s biographical miniseries, Pam & Tommy was critically lauded but sparked wide debate over whether the duo (and their fellow collaborators) had the right to tell that story.
Less controversial but certainly on the edgy side was his role in last year’s Fresh, which we...

George Brown, the drummer who gave Kool & the Gang its propulsive, infection beats, died Thursday after a battle with cancer, a Universal Music Enterprises spokesperson announced. He was 74.
Brown — whose nickname was “Funky” — was one of seven school friends from Jersey City, New Jersey, who came together in 1964 as an instrumental-only jazz and soul group calling itself the Jazziacs. Other members included Robert “Kool” Bell on bass, brother Ronald Bell on keyboards and Charles Smith on guitar.
The band went through several name changes, including the New Dimensions, the Soul Town Band and Kool & the Flames before settling on Kool & the Gang, the name that would become famous worldwide, in 1969. They signed to De-Lite records and released their first LP, the all-instrumental Kool and the Gang, in 1970. By 1973, they incorporated emerging disco trends in its sound, cracking the U.S. Top 10 with “Jungle Boogie” in 1973 and “Hollywood Swinging” in 1974.

Ohmkar’s new Telugu-language “horror” show Mansion 24 is a 6-part drama that fails to make any kind of impression. Not only is it completely unoriginal, but even with its ensemble cast, it is a snooze fest that is as shallow as the mindset behind some of its subplots. Mansion 24 follows the story of investigative journalist Amrutha, whose father has just gone missing after visiting an infamous abandoned mansion. Her task is to figure out where he is and bring him back home to her bedridden mother. Amrutha meets the security guard of the building, who entertains her with some stories for 5 days about different flats in the building where terrifying things happen. How does all of this connect to her father’s story? We find out by the end of the first season. Firstly, the title of this show makes no sense. There’s no mansion; there’s...

Samuel L. Jackson has had it with not getting motherf*ckin’ recognition from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and motherf*ckin’ Sciences, saying the organization has denied him Oscar nominations — and even wins — on multiple occasions.
Notably, Samuel L. Jackson did receive an Honorary Oscar last year, as his “dynamic performances resonate across genres and generations of audiences worldwide”, which he considers a genuine victory and not a consolation prize. Still, he knows the Academy made a few errors. “Didn’t feel honorary, just felt like I was getting an Oscar. I earned it. I worked for it. I can possibly name four other instances where I could have won or should have won or should have been nominated, but I’m fine with it. It’s mine. I got it. My name’s on it.”

The Tribeca Festival excised “Film” from its name in 2021, and while it’s true that the annual celebration of all things entertainment has expanded to include plenty of television and immersive programming, the movies make it a must-attend event. This year’s lineup is no exception. It has big-name actors such as Michael Shannon and Jennifer Esposito trying their hand at directing, along with revelatory performances from stars like Nick Jonas. But what makes Tribeca so exciting is that it’s a springboard for bold new voices. As the fest gets ready to kick off on June 7, here are nine movies not to be missed.

Carl Sagan, for those who may not know, was an astronomer and charismatic cosmologist who came into the public eye in 1980 with the broadcast of his PBS series "Cosmos: A Personal Voyage." That show, in addition to Sagan's many novels, books, and lectures, helped popularize astral science, bringing casual conversations about space to new heights.
Sagan's popularity is understandable. He was affable and well-spoken, and he talked about fun scientific concepts like the existence of UFOs, and the actual, mathematical odds that an alien civilization might someday visit Earth; given the size of the universe, Sagan calculated that there are at least a million Earth-like civilizations out there somewhere. The film "Contact" is based on his novel. Sagan was also a major advocate for marijuana use, and was rather spiritual, despite often speaking out against religion or the existence of an intelligent God. He was a fascinating dude.

A follow-up to the 1996 disaster film Twister (watch it Here) has been in and out of development for over twenty-five years. A few months ago, it was announced that one is finally going to go into production, with Minari director Lee Isaac Chung at the helm and Daisy Edgar-Jones of Fresh and Where the Crawdads Sing in the lead. And while that film, titled Twisters, heads toward its July 19, 2024 release date, Insider got some information on the demise of the Twister 2 that Twister star Helen Hunt was recently developing with Grammy and Tony winner Daveed Diggs and his Blindspotting co-writer Rafael Casal.
Diggs told Insider, “I’m not going to get into it, mostly because I’m probably going to misremember things. But all I’ll say is there was an opportunity where we were talking about that, and it didn’t happen, and the reasons that it didn’t happen are potentially shady.

Sebastian Stan and Maria Bakalova, both veterans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, are attached to star in a new spy comedy for Paramount Pictures with Paul Feig attached to produce and potentially direct, TheWrap has confirmed.

Feig is probably best known for directing “Bridesmaids,” which began a string of profitable, high-concept, female led comedies like “The Heat” and “Spy.” In 2016 he directed the all-female “Ghostbusters” reboot, which became a cultural flashpoint, cutting short a potential franchise and leaving Sony to quickly revert to a more traditional approach with the release of “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” in 2021.
Since “Ghostbusters,” Feig directed the delicious dark comedy “A Simple Favor,” “Last Christmas” and most recently “The School for Good and Evil” for Netflix. Feig is currently in production on “Grand Death Lotto,...

Hulu was one of the first streaming services on the market, and over the years, it also endured as one of the best in the game — home to a robust and diverse library, including a healthy chunk of the best 20th Century and Searchlight movies, standout original Hulu movies like “Fresh” and “Good Luck to You, Leo Grande,” next-day episodes from countless hit broadcast shows, FX series, and plenty of other must-watch shows and films from throughout the years (being one of the first in the game means Hulu also has a lot of great distribution contracts). And that’s without even touching the potential for add-on subscriptions.
In short, there are a lot of good movies to watch on Hulu so we’ve put together a handy list to help you stop scrolling and start watching — we even made the titles clickable so you can get right to it.

Naming a young Black man’s story after a transport stop gives off strong Fruitvale vibes, but Aristotle Torres’ feature debut reaches back further to the hip-hop morality tales of the early ’90s, like Boaz Yakin’s Fresh or Ernest Dickerson’s Juice — the wave that immediately followed John Singleton’s influential Boyz n the Hood. Surprisingly, given Torres’ history of videos for the likes of Ludacris and Nas, the soundtrack is light on rap, using unexpected needle drops like Pavarotti’s version of “La Donna e Mobile” to score scenes of spray-can anarchy on the New York subway.
In all other ways, however, Story Ave is very much a ’hood movie, in the sense that its young protagonist is both constrained and defined by the place where he lives, in this case the Bronx. That person is Kadir (Asante Blackk), a talented young artist tormented by the recent death of his disabled little brother.

Will Smith’s big break in acting was the sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The show capitalized on Smith’s natural charisma and humor and proved he was more than just a rapper. Creator Benny Medina and producer Quincy Jones took a chance on Smith that paid off. The show lasted six seasons before Smith became such a big movie star, it was time to end the show. All six seasons of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air are streaming on HBO Max. If you like Fresh Prince of Bel-Air here are five other shows you may like too.
