Because Ralph is so volatile, this episode is beyond the comedic. The events that happen are so raw that at times it moves into high drama. If not for the byplay between Ed and Ralph, it would be nearly tragic. Ralph's childish insistence that he know everything and trust no one is established early. When Trixie leaves an old love letter in the Kramden's apartment, Ralph believe that Alice is cheating on him. Unfortunately, it leads to some real ugliness. The scene where Ralph goes to talk to Trixie is rather painful to watch. On the other hand, the dramatic irony at times leads to lines that would not be funny to be hilarious.
