The Ring of Truth (2006)
*** (out of 4)
Art Director James Spencer is interviewed about his work on ROCKY as he discusses various aspects of the production. Spencer starts off talking how he'll usually read a screenplay a couple times so that he gets a feel of who the character is and what his likes are. From here he will get into work on making sure that the environment tells an additional story of who the character is and what type of place he's living. Spencer talks about how the streets should look and how the inside of the apartment should look. There's talk about when Stallone enters the pet shop and sees Talia Shire how their first encounter should be through the bird cage. Spencer also says that the main thing is to make sure that everything looks natural so that people won't realize that work has actually been done and they're looking at a set. Overall this is a good look at what Spencer wanted to add to the movie and it's good because it gives the viewer a good idea of what an art director actually does. Spencer comes across very entertaining and he points out several things in the film that should entertain the fans. At just under 10-minutes there's certainly nothing ground breaking here but fans should be entertained by it.
