When Wattpad Webtoon Studios was preparing to release the drama “Float” this year, author Kate Marchant asked for a little help from her fans. The Lionsgate film was based on her story, and now she presented three movie posters to her followers, asking them to pick their favorite.
“I can feel your readers shifting in their seats,” Aron Levitz, president of Wattpad Webtoon Studios, says with a laugh. “All those creative execs are going, ‘Wait a minute, people knew about it before it went out? Are you sure that’s Ok?’”
For Levitz, the answer is a resounding yes. His company is shaking up the traditional approach to creating film and TV adaptations by putting the power in the hands of fans.
Just last month, the third movie in the “Through My Window” series, adapted from Wattpad author Ariana Godoy’s webnovels, dominated the Netflix film charts, amassing 14 million views...

It is the season to fall in love. February is just around the corner, and every person in love or seeking it is switching on to movies that tap into the emotion. There is no greater form of feeling than love, and with Valentine’s Day just two weeks away, it would be interesting to know what kind of movies could be viewed on that day with your loved ones. After is a series of five films based on Anna Todd’s series of novels that chronicles the stories of Tessa Young and Hardin Scott, who fall in love during their time in college.
The first film, After, was all about Tessa Young rediscovering her life in college after growing up under the thumb of her mother. She planned everything about her daughter’s life, including the college she would attend and what she would pursue after her education was completed.

The “After” series has had a long journey. Starting as a One Direction Harry Styles fan fiction published on Wattpad by Anna Todd, the story was later reformatted to become an original novel series detailing the tumultuous relationship between college student Tessa Young and tortured bad boy Hardin Scott. Five years after the novel was published, the first book was turned into the film “After” starring Josephine Langford and Hero Fiennes Tiffin as Tessa and Hardin.
Since 2019 there have been four installments in the “After” movie series with one coming out consistently every year.

What did it take to get “Top Gun: Maverick” (Paramount/4.99-5.99) back to #1 on all three of the VOD charts we follow? A steep price cut. The summer hit enjoyed two across-the-board #1 weeks when it was initially released (at 19.99 to purchase), but then had to share top position with “Where the Crawdads Sing” (Sony/19.99) and “Beast” (Universal/19.99) by mid-September.
“Maverick” rebounding to #1 at iTunes and Google Play, both of which rank by traffic, isn’t surprising, but it is a rare lower-cost film to also take top spot at Vudu, which ranks by revenue. The film’s position means it had four times or more the activity of any film costing 19.99. Even more impressive? All of this comes ahead of whenever the film starts streaming on Paramount+.
At Netflix, two new films, both from heavyweight talent with whom the streamer is in business, lead at the moment. “Lou,” starring Allison Janney...

August theatrical releases were a bit sparse, but “Partner Track,” “Lost Ollie” and seven other book-based projects found their way onto streamers last month, including HBO’s “Game of Thrones” prequel series “House of the Dragon.” September has more theatrical releases, but fewer book adaptations to look forward to. Those that are coming out this month have rich history though, especially “The Rings of Power” series that Amazon has based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s books and appendices.
There’s also “The Silent Twins” starring Letitia Wright and Jodhi May as well as Andrew Dominik’s feature film “Blonde” adapted from Joyce Carol Oates’ book about the career of Marilyn Monroe.

Spoken English evolved such useful phrases as “blah blah blah” and “yada yada yada” so that in conversation we don’t have to suffer through numbingly repetitive descriptions of the perfectly obvious. Sadly, no such shorthand exists in the “After” universe, which, now on its fourth instalment, seems dedicated to spinning the already vanishingly wispy romance between good-girl Tessa and bad-boy Hardin, YA fiction’s most colossally boring golden couple, into ever thinner straw. After a placeholder second film (“After We Collided”) and a wheel-spinning third (“After We Fell”), the new episode — which itself ramps up to a face-palming “to be continued” — can’t even charitably be said to be blah. It’s the space between the blahs.

"After We Collided" Book Summary
"After We Collided" starts right after the revelation that Hardin only dated Tessa as a bet. Understandably, Tessa is destroyed by the news and wants nothing to do with Hardin. The boy, meanwhile, is desperate to win her back. Much of the book is a tug of war between these two, and of course, their journey is an emotional roller coaster of epic proportions.

If you're not ready to say goodbye to Hardin (Hero Fiennes Tiffin) and Tessa (Josephine Langford) just yet, don't worry, you won't have to - well beyond "After Ever Happy"'s upcoming release. Tiffin just revealed in an August Instagram video that a fifth film is coming. Fans had previously thought the fourth film, out Sept. 7, was Tiffin and Langford's final contributions to the saga.
Said Tiffin, "We have just wrapped filming on the fifth after movie. I can't tell you too much about it yet but I can tell you that it will be called 'After Everything,' and I cannot wait for you all to see it."
Of course, there were already even more "After" movies in the works. Back in April 2021, director Castille Landon exclusively confirmed to Teen Vogue that the "After" franchise would be getting even bigger with two more films on the way,...

You may know Hero Fiennes Tiffin as bad boy Hardin from "After," "After We Collided," "After We Fell," and "After Ever Happy," and while, yes, he is very, very hot, there's more to him than meets the eye. Tiffin is both an actor and a model, and you may also recognize him as young Voldemort from "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince."
Recently, Tiffin starred in the romance film "First Love" alongside Sydney Park. Tiffin was initially reluctant to do another romance film because he wanted to branch out into other genres, but he was intrigued by the "different style of romance" in "First Love." He explained to Popsugar in June, "I was slightly worried about doing so many romances, because I'd be putting myself in a bit of a box, but I think I did the opposite of that by taking on another romance with such a different style.

The Untitled The Boys spinoff is described as an irreverent, R-rated series that explores the lives of hormonal, competitive Supes as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities. It’s part college show, part Hunger Games— with all the heart, satire, and raunch of The Boys.

Perdomo replaces Shane Paul McGhie, who, along with Aimee Carrero, recently exited the series. As Deadline reported, the character has undergone creative changes under new showrunners Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters, so this is not a straight recasting.

The major prizes were spread out and the return to a live event was welcome – but how well did it pay off?
Bafta shares the love
This year saw the major awards spread out. With five prizes, Dune was technically the most awarded film, though this may have passed TV viewers by because they were all in craft categories and therefore rushed through in a round-up on the BBC broadcast.
Three films earned two awards each: Coda (supporting actor, adapted screenplay), West Side Story (supporting actress, casting) and best film and director winner The Power Of The Dog. Adding in...

Sunday’s BAFTA Awards and Critics Choice Awards doubleheader gave us a ton of new (but familiar) winners and one pretty surprising one. Gold Derby editors and Experts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng are here to break down all the results and what they meant for Oscar.
BAFTA and Critics Choice both named “The Power of the Dog” as Best Picture, but it did not sweep either show. It took home only two trophies at BAFTA, the other being Best Director for Jane Campion, and one of its losses came in Best Adapted Screenplay, which went to “Coda’s” Sian Heder in a big upset. That was the Apple TV+ film’s second win of the day after Troy Kotsur won Best Supporting Actor. “Coda” now has double wins from the Screen Actors Guild Awards and BAFTA, so is it really coming for Best Picture at the Oscars with just three nominations?...
