Six years passed without a new film from director Uwe Boll, a filmmaker some would describe as infamous, while others would say he’s legendary. Then last year he made Hanau (Deutschland im Winter – Part 1), about a real-life mass murderer. Now he’s back with the police drama First Shift, and while the movie isn’t expected to be released until sometime in 2024, a trailer has already arrived online. You can check it out in the embed above.
Boll wrote, directed, and produced First Shift, which is described as being a gripping police drama with the spirit of a classic road movie, taking us on a soul-stirring journey through the vibrant streets of New York City into the depths of our own reality and the innermost corners of our souls. Immersing viewers in a high-octane adventure delving into the lives of dedicated law enforcement officers.

Die Hard came out thirty-five years ago and we’re still seeing a steady stream of knock-offs rip-offs and cash-ins arriving. Case in point, Mercy, which like last year’s Assault on Va-33 puts a hospital under siege. Can the filmmakers deliver an entertaining action film, or is this, like so many other similar films, Doa?
While serving in Afghanistan Dr. Michelle Miller had her husband turn up as a patient in her field hospital, worse he had a bomb strapped to him. This leads to an agonized, and agonizing, exchange of dialogue “Get out Michelle, somebody’s got to be there for Bobby!” “No, I’m not leaving you!” followed by Frank rolling off the table so his detonation somehow doesn’t kill her.

How best to describe Rogue Hostage? Well; the title gives a lot away already but how about “a former soldier turned social worker suffering from Ptsd gets tangled up in Die Hard in a supermarket…” Yeah that’s a succinct as you can get. If I’m honest there’s not much more to say about the film.

“Queenpins,” a comedy starring Kristen Bell, is moving from a theatrical release from STXfilms to a release on Paramount+ and Showtime, a rep for the streamer told TheWrap.
The deal was for the film’s U.S. rights, with STXfilms retaining international distribution. A source said the sale was completed for over $20 million behind a $10 million budget.
Though release plans weren’t immediately clear, STXfilms will still be releasing the film theatrically ahead of its Paramount+ debut.
“Queenpins” is already completed, and the sale of the film mirrors how STXfilms handled the Gerard Butler disaster movie “Greenland” last year at the height of the pandemic. The distributor sold “Greenland” to a streamer for North American release but retained international rights, and it ended up grossing $52 million overseas. The success of that film now has Butler returning for a sequel. STXfilms first picked up the film back in September 2020 from AGC Studios.

On the surface, it might appear that little changed with home viewing this weekend. At least as far as can be told with “In the Heights” (Warner Bros.) on HBO Max. Even with theaters of great interest, unlike its disappointing gross, results at home remain a mystery.
But a second glance reveals a few nuggets of note. A handful of new releases arrived, including “Queen Bees” (Gravitas Ventures) on Premium VOD, which also placed in the theatrical box-office top 10.
Meanwhile, some positions suggest how different pricing strategies may have an impact on results, including possible consumer resistance to prices higher than normal. That might be the case with “Mortal Kombat” (Warner Bros.).
“Wrath of Man” (United Artists/$19.99) edged out “Nobody” (Universal/$19.99) as the top performer. Both had two #1 placements across the charts. But “Wrath” did slightly better, taking two #2 positions, while “Nobody” was #3 on two charts. (See the rankings below.

Exclusive: Another big streamer sale of a finished film! Paramount+ and Showtime won an auction for U.S rights to Queenpins, the STXfilms comedy that stars Kristen Bell, Kirby Howell Baptiste, Paul Walter Hauser, Vince Vaughn, Bebe Rexha, Dayo Okeniyi, Joel McHale, Nick Cassavetes, Jack McBrayer and Annie Mumolo. With streamers like Hulu in on the bidding, Paramount+ and Showtime won with a deal north of $20 million. That is a healthy profit over the budget.
Directed and written by Aron Gaudet & Gita Pullapilly, and inspired by a true story, Queenpins follows a suburban housewife (Bell), fed up with being dismissed and overlooked by her husband and society, who decides to take back control of her life by starting an illegal coupon club. Her creation ends up scamming millions of dollars from big food companies while delivering deals to millions of fellow coupon clippers.

When Tyrese Gibson isn't strapped into a rocket car heading to outer-space in the Fast & Furious franchise, it would seem that he's taking down terrorists in a small-town store, at least, that's the premise of Rogue Hostage. Vertical Entertainment have released the official trailer for the action thriller which was directed by Jon Keeyes and written by Mickey Solis, and you can check that out above! Tyrese Gibson plays a former Marine struggling to live with Ptsd…...

"I'm a product of chaos!" Vertical Entertainment has released an official trailer for an action thriller titled Rogue Hostage, the latest from filmmaker Jon Keeyes. This hasn't played at any film festivals and is dropping in theaters + on VOD starting this summer. Rogue Hostage stars Tyrese Gibson as a single father and former Marine who gets caught up in a hostage situation involving a dangerous domestic terrorist. Locked inside a local store, he must fight back to save his family and his step-father, and the lives of everyone else inside there. The film's cast includes John Malkovich (!!), Holly Taylor, Michael Jai White, Luna Lauren Velez, John D. Hickman, Leslie Stratton, and Christopher Backus as the main bad guy. This doesn't look that great, basically Die Hard-but-with-Tyrese-instead set inside of a home goods store. Might still be a fun watch? Worth a look at least. Here's the official trailer ...

The Conners star and executive producer Sara Gilbert, Rob Huebel (Childrens Hospital), Leland Orser (Brand New Cherry Flavor), Lyriq Bent (Four Brothers), J.R. Cacia (Infidel), Tate Donovan (Respect) and Kevin Dunn have been cast opposite Chris Messina in HBO Max pilot Verbatim, an anthology series from Brett Weiner, Ben Stiller’s Red Hour Films, Left/Right Productions and the New York Times.
Verbatim, based on the New York Times Op-Docs digital series, tackles actual events with all dialogue taken from primary sources and presented verbatim. The pilot episode follows the story of the 2019 college admissions scandal.
The roles are not being revealed. Messina is believed to be playing the scheme’s ringleader Rick Singer, Gilbert is likely Laura Smith, the lead FBI investigator on the case who also is narrating the pilot; Orser, Donovan and Dunn may be playing three of the wealthy parents charged in the bribing scandal.
Because of the series’ anthology nature, I hear that, except for Messina, who is expected to link the different cases throughout the series, the rest of the cast are guest stars for the pilot only.
Red Hour’s Nicholas Weinstock, Jackie Cohn and Stiller executive produce with Left/Right’s Ken Druckerman and Banks Tarver and Kathleen Lingo for the New York Times. Scott Lochmus and Michelene Starnadori will produce.
2020 HBO Max Pilots & Series Orders
Verbatim began as a short film that screened around the country including at the Sundance, South by Southwest and Telluride film festivals in 2014 and won the audience award at the Dallas International Film Festival. The New York Times expanded the film into a digital series that has garnered millions of views and was an official selection of the 2016 Sundance Film Festival Shorts Program with Verbatim: The Ferguson Case in 2016.
Gilbert is repped by Gersh and Management 360. Huebel is repped by UTA and Jackoway Austen Tyerman. Orser is repped by Gersh. Bent is repped by Buchwald, Luber Roklin Entertainment in the U.S. and The Associates Talent Agency and Seth Management in Canada. Cacia is repped by The Coronel Group. Donovan is repped by Gersh. Dunn is repped by Gersh and Gersh and Lighthouse Entertainment.
