After sitting through the less-than-satisfying Viking Wolf I wanted a lycanthropic film with a bit more bite to it. As it happened, I had the screener for the new film from writer/director Mark Cantu, Wolf Hollow waiting to be watched. Five minutes into it I’d already seen more gore than in the entire running time of A Norwegian Werewolf in High School as a drunken bonfire is invaded by a pack of werewolves.
A year later two things are happening. Evie and Bart Neuri are meeting with Mayor Schuzmarke about the absorption of Wolf Hollow by the adjacent town. An act caused in part by certain incidents on the Neuri’s property a year ago.
And in the hamlet of Wolf Hollow itself,...

The House of Mouse made a strong showing in the latest Wrap Report covering the first week of February. Disney+ demonstrated its unique ability to deliver multiple programs of interest to subscribers across different genres, as 2016 animated film “Moana” climbed aboard the most-watched streaming chart at No. 10 for the week. Years after its theatrical release, the family flick featuring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is still drawing viewers on streaming.
With a sequel set to be released in June, a new longform animated series debuting on Disney+ and a new interactive trail opening at Disney’s Epcot park inspired by the film, “Moana” is having a resurgence in 2023.
Disney’s Marvel franchise also continues to deliver on streaming with “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” landing atop the streaming charts, with over 2 million U.S. households tuning into the much-anticipated sequel on Disney+ in its first five days, according to the report, which...

When I first saw the title Viking Wolf, Vikingulven in its native Norwegian, I had visions of Norse lycanthropes raiding and pillaging their way up and down the coast. Sadly that isn’t what it’s about although it does begin with a prologue, shot like a silent film for some reason, showing a raiding party under the command of Grim Gudbrand storming an abbey.
The monks warn them against going into a locked room and assuming it to be filled with treasure, smash down the door and find a snarling red-eyed wolf cub. Of course, they take it with them, and by the time their longship returns home, it’s the only thing left alive on it.

The VOD charts saw an infusion of new blood with Lionsgate’s “Plane” (19.99) surging ahead in its first week. It ranks #1 at iTunes, #2 on Vudu’s weekly chart (disadvantaged by its Friday release), and #4 at Google Play, which always lags a few days behind.
That puts it ahead of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” (Disney), “Babylon” (Paramount), and “House Party” (Warner Bros. Discovery), all at 19.99. “Wakanda” also streams on Disney+.
“Plane” and “House Party” both came out after their third weekends in theaters. That was expected for “House Party,” the first of several films initially destined for HBO Max but instead debut with less-elevated theatrical play before going to the streaming site.
For “Plane,” it’s an unusual move. The Gerald Butler-produced action film did well in theaters over the three weekends before it added home viewing, but initial response suggests value in moving quickly.

"Believe me... you're dealing with a bloodthirsty beas, which must be stopped before the infection spreads." After a student is brutally murdered at a party Thale attends, she suddenly becomes a key witness. Who, or rather what exactly, was the killer? The town must stop the bloodthirsty beast before it kills everyone in its path. She also starts to have strange visions and bizarre desires... Also starring Liv Mjönes, Vidar Magnussen, Mia Fosshaug Laubacher, Sjur Vatne Brean, and Silje Øksland Krohne. This would probably...

Awards season never really ends, which means this year’s Oscar-nominated movies are hitting streaming services now to build anticipation before the big night. Todd Field’s Best Picture nominee “TÁR” arrived on Peacock last week, and you should definitely check it out there if you missed it in theaters. (Here is how to watch “Tar” online.)
But unfortunately, there are no currently nominated films or likely future contenders new to streaming this week. But we’ve rounded up some movies that began streaming in the past week or this weekend that have something of interest to awards-watchers.
The contender to watch this weekend: “Spoiler Alert,” Peacock
This sad but uplifting romantic drama comes to streaming after a low-key theatrical run. It’s based on the memoir “Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies” by entertainment journalist and TVLine founder Michael Ausiello. (TVLine and Gold Derby are both owned by Penske Media Corporation.

Viking Wolf, billed as Norway’s first werewolf movie, delivers as promised. This recent Netflix acquisition doesn’t mislead its audience; there is definitely a wild lycan on the loose in a small Norwegian town. However, Stig Svendsen’s movie doesn’t have the typical origin found in these kinds of stories; the werewolf myth here has been adapted to better fit its Scandinavian environment. The end result is a unique, if not flawed new addition to the pack.
Despite its cheesy title, Viking Wolf (originally Vikingulven) is a serious movie. It takes the trademarks of modern Scandi-noir media and applies it to this creature-feature. In the story, a teenage city transplant named Thale Berg (Elli Rhiannon Müller Osbourne) moves to a place called Nybø after her father passed away. His death has affected the main character’s relationship with her mother (Liv Mjönes), and that tension plays a significant role in Thale’s fate.

Wiking Wolf (Vikingulven) is a horror movie directed by Stig Svendsen starring Liv Mjönes, Marius Lien and Arthur Hakalahti. The script is written by Stig Svendsen, Espen Aukan and Jannicke Systad Jacobsen.
As is the case with Trol, this movie is another take on the werewolf theme returning it to its Viking origins and, as in Godzilla we go back to the source of the myth to return to the origins.
It is impossible to not be reminded of American Werewolf, in London or Paris… but this time in a small Norwegian village.
And, sure, miss those other movies a little.
Storyline
A girl in a party with her friends witnesses a cruel murder by an unidentified creature. Nobody can imagine what it was.

February is for lovers. But with its list of new releases for February 2023, Netflix is unveiling another season of arguably its least romantic show.
That’s right: Joe is returning in You season 4 part 1 on Feb. 9. This time around our central stalker played by Penn Badgley is across the pond in jolly old England, living an unassuming life as a bearded professor and looking for his next target. If you don’t get your fill of You this month, stay tuned for the second part of season 4 in March.
You will be joined in February by a third season of another buzzy Netflix original. The kids of Outer Banks return on Feb. 23 to find their literal and metaphorical treasure once and for all. Other originals this month include rich dog docuseries Gunther’s Millions on Feb. 1 and animated family title My Dad the Bounty Hunter on Feb. 9.

Love is in the air on Netflix in February, from new romcoms like the Reese Witherspoon-starring “Your Place or Mine” to the return of murderous stalker Joe Goldberg in “You” Season 2 part 1.
Penn Badgley has long dispelled any misnomers of his “You” character being a romantic, but Joe himself still believes that’s who he is at his core. After killing his wife and faking his own death, Joe sets off for Europe so he can find Marianne (Tati Gabrielle), the woman he convinced himself he’s in love with before she learned the truth and fled. But breaking old habits has never been easy for old Joe, who quickly gets caught up in a most dubious clique of London high society that has its own struggles with lust, power, and the occasionally fatal crime.
