Not to be confused with the 1986 Gary Paulsen novel that was on your fifth-grade reading list, Adam Green's 2007 slasher "Hatchet" was intended to be an homage to the plentiful stalk-and-kill movies from the 1980s. The first "Hatchet" takes place deep in the swamps of Louisana where feckless city-dwellers get lost while taking a swamp tour. They trade stories of Victor Crowley, a local kid with facial differences who, years ago, was trapped in a burning house set ablaze by prankster teens. Crowley was accidentally killed by his father when he recklessly used a hatchet to free him from the fire. Victor's spirit is now said to haunt the swamp and murder interlopers. Of course, Victor will appear to start the predicted murders.

Screambox is headed back into the swamp with Victor Crowley, as the Bloody Disgusting-powered streamer has added a trio of Hatchet sequels, all courtesy of MPI/Dark Sky Films.
The following Hatchet films are now streaming on Screambox…
Hatchet II, which was directed by Adam Green, serves up a ferocious and exceptionally gory dose of splatterific entertainment with groundbreaking make-up effects, a wildly twisted sense of humor, and an even darker and bloodier ride than the first film. In the film, Marybeth (Danielle Harris) manages to escape the clutches of the bayou-butcher Victor Crowley and returns to the swamp with an army of hunters and gunmen, determined to end Crowley’s reign of horror forever.
In Hatchet III, directed this time by Bj McDonnell, the murderous slasher Victor Crowley takes on an entire police department, paramedic team, and heavily armed S.W.A.T. unit, forcing Marybeth and the troops into an epic showdown.

"When police raid a house in El Paso, they find it full of dead Latinos, and only one survivor. He’s known as The Traveler, and when they take him to the station for questioning he tells them those lands are full of magic and talks about the horrors he’s encountered in his long time on this earth, about portals to other worlds, mythical creatures, demons and the undead. Stories about Latin American legends."

Slasher films are everywhere these days. Every streaming platform seems to have their own franchise going, and new ones come out all the time. With Terrifier 2 coming soon and Halloween about eight weeks away, a bunch more are about to enter the arena. So, what are the best slasher movies ever?
Here is a list of some of the best. While a few of them are a bit obvious because we can’t skip on the classics, others will be harder to find titles that are absolutely worth looking for. Without further ado, here are our picks for the Best Slasher Movies Ever:
1. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
Let’s start with the undisputed king, Mr. Wes Craven and his creation, the one and only Freddy Krueger. Now, why does this particular duo rule this sub-genre? Well, Craven established many rules with his take on the slasher and the...

It’s increasingly rare to be surprised by a new movie’s existence entirely, particularly when it’s connected to an established IP. Studios inundate audiences with advertising in an effort to remain at the forefront of their minds while fervent fans dig up every crumb of information from the second a project is announced, leaving precious little to the imagination by the time a film hits the screen.
Blair Witch‘s covert reveal, The Cloverfield Paradox‘s unannounced release, and Split‘s connection to Unbreakable are recent examples that, regardless of the reception to the films themselves, generated buzz thanks to the element of surprise. Five years ago, writer-director Adam Green pulled off a similar achievement with Victor Crowley, the fourth installment in his Hatchet franchise.

Given that things are utterly bananas in the world right now, I think we’re all looking for places where we can get some comfort food, both of the literal and figurative variety. And when I think of comforting experiences in the horror genre, I think Caroline Williams. Ever since I first saw her play Vanita “Stretch” Brock in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, I’ve noticed that even her screams seem to have an element of laidback southern charm as all manner of gore and mayhem play out around her. She’s been a prolific presence on both the big and small screens since the ’80s, but she always manages to find her way back to the horror fold with turns in Stepfather II, Rob Zombie’s Halloween II, Leprechaun 3, and Verotika. So for this month’s movie, I’m going to combine her comforting screen presence with a film...

The Hatchet franchise isn’t dead yet – not by a long shot.
On the heels of Victor Crowley, the 2017 slasher directed by series veteran Adam Green, Danielle Harris told Monster Mania 44 attendees (h/t Bloody Disgusting) that there are still plans for two more Hatchet movies, with a back-to-back production seemingly on the cards.
Horror fans will know Harris as Marybeth Dunstan, who appeared in both Hatchet II and Hatchet III. The character even made a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance at the tail-end of Victor Crowley, which inevitably fueled talk of a sequel. Or sequels, as Harris told Monster Mania 44 earlier this month, though the actress was quick to note that she doesn’t know when, exactly, said sequels will see the warm light of day.
There’s supposed to be two more. I know the rumor Adam told me is they’re going to shoot them at the same time.

If there is one thing that horror fans love it’s Michael Myers, that’s probably why when he never even bothered to turn up to Halloween 3: Season of the Witch they took it so badly (I jest of course). Halloween 3: Season of the Witch for me is one of the underrated in the series but of course thi is not a look at that film but a review of Halloween 4 & 5 – out now on budget DVD just in time to cash in on the forthcoming home entertainment release of Blumhouse’s new Halloween next week!
Halloween 4 saw the return of the masked bogeyman when he discovered that he had a niece, Jamie Straude which strangely enough comes at just the right time as he’s once again given the chance to escape.

Ever since “oldies” like Scream entered their “retrospective anniversary articles” phase, slasher cinema has failed to regain control of genre airwaves like those 80’s mainstays of pulp and cultural circumstance. Your still-relevant Friday The 13th or Child’s Play franchises. To that, I’ve always considered Adam Green’s Hatchet an exception to trends. My first taste of Victor Crowley’s bayou legend struck me as – pound for pound – one of the post-2000 era’s gnarliest slasher rebirths. Hatchet II and Hatchet III, two underrated indie continuations, only strengthened my arguments. Count me a ranking axe-wielder in the Hatchet Army, and a continual fan of Green’s work (Frozen chills to the core, Digging Up The Marrow blasts creativity).
Unfortunately, this just makes 2018’s Victor Crowley a bigger disappointment in my eyes.

Danielle Harris is an actress, based in Los Angeles. She has appeared in dozens and dozens of films. Notably, she appeared in Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, at the very young age of 11 and Halloween 5, just a year later. She has also appeared in the the two Halloween remakes, shot by Rob Zombie. This film fan and critic knows her from her work on Stakeland (2010), Hatchet II (2010), Hatchet III (2013), See No Evil 2 (2014), Havenhurst (2016) and now in Christopher Lawrence Chapman's Inoperable. Harris is a prolific and talented actress. And, she is interesting, in that she has chosen to specifically work in the horror genre. In this interview, Harris talks about some of the difficulties of shooting in the genre. She also talks about doing her own stunt work, on Hatchet III and what she liked about her latest production, Inoperable. Her spirit animal is a wolf.

Set in present day Los Angeles, cinema’s oldest monsters becomes man’s newest miracle as Frankenstein is brought bang up to date. Telling its tale entirely from the point of view of The Monster (Xavier Samuel – The Twilight Saga, Fury) the story unravels as he is artificially created by a husband and wife team of eccentric scientists (Danny Huston – X-Men Origins: Wolverine, 30 Days Of Night and Carrie-Anne Moss – Pompeii, The Matrix Trilogy) and then left for dead.
Confronted with nothing but aggression and violence as he attempts to make is way in the world, Frankenstein is a full-blooded and unflinching reimagining of a timeless classic that terrifies as much as it casts a mirror over the nature of humanity and science. Thankfully I put aside my prejudices when the film screened at Frightfest last summer and was blown away by Rose’s Stunning, Beautiful and Touching new take on the classic tale. Now I’ll eagerly sing it’s praises to anyone that asks…

Digging Up the Marrow will be released on VOD and iTunes beginning February 20th. Since bursting on the scene with the throwback slasher Hatchet in 2006, writer/director Adam Green has built a career on doing this his own way. He has written and directed multiple features, produced films for up-and-coming filmmakers, created, written and starred on two seasons of his own sitcom Holliston, co-hosted The Movie Crypt, his own successful weekly filmmaking podcast and much, much more.
Digging Up the Marrow, Green's latest feature, is something totally different: a blend of documentary and narrative that defies any easy categorization. In the film, Green plays himself, a horror movie director with his own independent production company (ArieScope) who is contacted by a man named Decker (Ray Wise, the best he's ever been) claiming that monsters are real and that he knows exactly where to find them -- at an entrance to an underground world he calls "the Marrow."

After traversing the indie-horror scene for years, Adam Green still manages to bring an admirable level of excitement and enthusiasm to projects that might otherwise be dubbed “generic” without proper ambitions. Digging Up The Marrow could have suffered a more mundane fate in the wrong hands, but Green’s nurturing touch encourages individuality and creativity – or in more horror specific terms, it spreads like a devilish infection, eating deep into your mushiest cranial tissue.
Green’s found footage mockumentary analyzes man’s ability to rationalize the existence of monsters living among us, and he does so with the help of creature-artist-extraordinaire Alex Pardee – an illustrator whose work inspired a whole gaggle of heavily-detailed monsters ready to unleash themselves on excitable audiences. Green’s child-like enthusiasm is infectious as he seeks to answer questions many of us might be afraid of, but the documentary aspect eventually gives way to Pardee’s colorful,...

Motel Hell is available now on Blu-ray. That information alone should be enough to send horror fans shrieking into the streets to party until the wee hours of the morning. And we here all want to get into the festivities as well.
To celebrate the release of Motel Hell on Blu-ray, we've compiled our Top 9 Chilling Chainsaw Kills. Of course this is in reference to the iconic chainsaw scene in the climax of the film. There was something simply unforgettable about Rory Calhoun wielding a ridiculously long chainsaw while wearing a pig head like a Halloween mask. Classic!
But before we get to our top horrific movie chainsaw kills, we have some honorable mentions to share with you. We've got to go way back to find some of the earliest on-screen chainsaw kills. We came up with Dark of the Sun (1968) and The Wizard of Gore (1970) for two of the first buzzsaw butcherings.

Creator Adam Green and co-star Joe Lynch sat down with Dread Central recently for a massive interview all about "Holliston."
Show creator and star Adam Green talked about his love for the "Holliston" series. "It's my favorite thing I've ever done," Green said. "It's my best work to date, and I think a lot of the people involved in the show would say the same thing. If you like Season 1, I think Season 2 really blows it away. I think with any sitcom the second season is usually considered to be funnier and better than the first, mainly because you know the characters, you know the world, you know the tone. And...
