To describe something in the Star Wars galaxy as divisive is merely to say that it exists. With each new movie or TV series that comes out, the fandom gets increasingly fractured, with factions picking sides and digging in on multiple fronts.

Known for his work on several Star Wars projects, Dave Filoni has become a key figure in shaping the space opera. Starting with his work on animated projects such as The Clone Wars and Rebels, he has also ventured into live-action projects The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, and has since assumed the role of chief creative officer at Lucasfilm.

However, when he initially received a call with an offer to work with Lucasfilm Animation, Filoni’s skepticism nearly caused him to overlook the opportunity, as he refused to believe that Lucasfilm Animation even existed and that the offer was potentially a prank.

In the immortal words of Greedo: "Maclunkey!" "Star Wars" has given rise to plenty of one-liners and other memorable movie and TV quotes, from classic mantras like "May the Force be with you" and "I've got a bad feeling about this," to more recent expressions like "This is the Way" and "I have spoken" from "The Mandalorian." In the annals of franchise history, though, perhaps no "Star Wars" quote is more controversial than "Maclunkey!" As of 2019, it's the last thing Greedo says before Han Solo shoots him dead in the Disney+ edit of "Star Wars: A New Hope."
If series creator Jon Favreau had his way, Pedro Pascal's protagonist would have also said "Maclunkey!" in "The Mandalorian." Favreau can be heard floating the idea to co-executive producer Dave Filoni in the "Making of Season 2" episode of the docuseries "Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian," streaming on Disney+.

The season 3 finale of "The Mandalorian" aired on Wednesday, and while social media is abuzz with the latest happenings in the world of Mando, let's take a look back at one of the pivotal moments in the first season of this show: when Din removes his helmet in the season 1.
While there is still a part of me that laments that this group keeps their faces -- and more importantly, Pedro Pascal's face -- covered, it cannot be denied how powerful it was when he finally showed it in the last episode of season 1. If you recall, the main gang hides out in the cantina after Din is wounded. Cara Dune (Gina Carano) tries to get him to remove his helmet for treatment, but The Creed says he can't do that in front of a living being. The Mandalorian has quickly become one of the most iconic characters in the Star Wars franchise. Pedro Pascal is credited for playing Din Djarin/the Mandalorian, but did you know he isn't always in the suit? During the 2022 Star Wars Celebration event, Pascal joked that Grogu has "two other daddies" because it takes multiple people to bring the character to life. So, who's really wearing the helmet? Well, it's actually a combined effort between Pascal and his doubles Brendan Wayne (who is the grandson of John Wayne) and Lateef Crowder, who both bring their own unique skills to the Mandalorian character.
In the 2020 docuseries "Disney Gallery: Star Wars: The Mandalorian," Pascal explained that Wayne and Crowder are behind a lot of the character's mannerisms and stuntwork. "I'm modeling my performance around their physicality in a lot of ways, and I wouldn't be able to do it without them,...

With the anxiously awaited third season of "The Mandalorian" coming to Disney+ on March 1, the current crown jewel of the "Star Wars" galaxy is going to quickly become much larger in scale and more epic in tone. The previous two seasons introduced lone bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his adorably cute cargo, Grogu, as they traversed the Outer Rim Territories in search of a Jedi capable of training the Mandalorian's small but powerful young passenger. In "The Book of Boba Fett," which essentially operated as "The Mandalorian" season 2.5, Grogu made the choice to return to Mando's care, setting the stage for a Force user to actually be welcomed into Mandalorian culture.

Just last year, The Mandalorian’s unforgettable second season finale provided the post-Original Trilogy version of Luke Skywalker some Star Wars fans have long craved. As he sliced through his Imperial enemies on his way to rescue our heroes, it was apparent that the original Star Wars protagonist’s powers had increased exponentially in the five years since Return of the Jedi. It was a notion that reinforced the belief that Luke is the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy.
But is that really the case?
The impressive live-action debut of animated icon Ahsoka Tano earlier in the season invited a debate on Jedi powers. It’s a topic that was recently reignited, thanks to comments from executive producer Dave Filoni.

The best-kept secret of “The Mandalorian” Season 2 was Mark Hamill’s surprise cameo in the finale as a young Luke Skywalker, who offers to complete baby Grogu’s training in The Force. Yet how Hamill was de-aged has been kept under wraps until this week’s episode of “Disney Gallery: Star Wars: The Mandalorian” on Disney+.
However, Industrial Light & Magic VFX supervisor, Richard Bluff, took a deeper dive into the de-aging process with IndieWire.
“We knew we had to be faithful to the look of [Luke Skywalker] around the time of ‘Return of the Jedi,’ which was the last movie we saw him at that age,” Bluff said. “And that was the look we had to reproduce. So it was important to [showrunner] Jon Favreau and [executive producer] Dave Filoni that we bring Mark Hamill in to perform there on set [at Manhattan Beach Studios in L.A.], dressed in costume [by costume designer Shawna Trpcic], and using him in every way possible — not only...

The major secret cameo from season 2 of "The Mandalorian" isn't that much of a secret anymore. Unless you've been deep in the swamps of Dagobah for the last few months, you likely know that none other than Luke Skywalker himself (a digitally de-aged Mark Hamill) rescued Grogu in the season's last episode.

It’s been nearly a year since The Mandalorian’s second season finale used the Force to floor the collective fandom with Luke Skywalker’s surprise, age-erased cameo. Yet, the afterglow of the moment remains widely resplendent due to the sheer shock value; a response facilitated by the ability of insiders to keep the Disney property’s stunning state secret. Now, the full extent of the sneaky endeavor has been uncovered, revealing how the return of Star Wars’ first and most famous hero was obscured by an intriguing Jedi substitute: Plo Koon.
It should come as no big surprise that, in an era of leaked concepts and trailers, the words “Luke” and/or “Skywalker,” were strictly forbidden to use during production of The Mandalorian‘s second season, due to the enormous magnitude of The secret that needed to be kept in a difficult marathon fashion across the frame’s entire 8-episode run.

An on-set performance by Star Wars vet Mark Hamill — helped along by all kinds of digital trickery — brought Luke Skywalker into The Mandalorian‘s orbit, for the Disney+ series’ crowd-pleasing Season 2 finale.
As extensively detailed by a special installment of Disney Gallery: Star Wars: The Mandalorian (released Wednesday morning; watch it here), a 60something Hamill actually donned Luke’s cloak, picked up a prop lightsaber and made his way toward “Baby Yoda” (aka Grogu). After performing those scenes of a 30something, post-Return of the Jedi Luke, Hamill then sat in a contraption dubbed “The Egg,” which captured HD video of...

It’s officially a thing now. Following the success of “Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian,” Disney+’s behind-the-scenes look at the making of and Lucasfilm’s hit “Star Wars” show, it appears that every major Disney+ series is going to receive a doc series about the making of the show. This one’s a brand-new, one-off documentary-style special and not a series. Still, the impetus is the same: “Assembled: The Making of ‘WandaVision,” is a behind-the-scenes of Marvel Studios’ hit series “WandaVision,” and it keeps the conversation going for a much-talked-about.

The Disney Plus streaming service launched in November 2019 offering their pre-existing library of movies and TV shows as well as original programs, and the highest profile of those new shows was “The Mandalorian,” set in the “Star Wars” universe and following the title character, a principled bounty hunter who encounters a mysterious child popularly known as Baby Yoda, whose memes you’ve probably seen if you’ve been on the internet at all in the last eight months. Will this ambitious adventure make an impact at the Emmys? It has 36 entries on the Emmy ballots ranging from Best Drama Series to Best Stunt Coordination. Scroll down to see all of them.
The show’s impressive pedigree can be seen all over the Emmy ballot. Only three regular cast members have been submitted in acting categories, including lead actor Pedro Pascal, but guest-acting contenders include Emmy nominee Giancarlo Esposito and Oscar-nominated filmmaker Werner Herzog.

The cat’s out of the bag! Last week, the finale episode of Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian revealed that Mark Hamill had a secret cameo in the first season of the hit Disney Plus show. The Luke Skywalker legend voiced Ev-9D9, the droid bartender in episode 5, “The Gunslinger.” Hamill soon confirmed the easter egg on Twitter, further unveiling that he has secret cameos in all Star Wars movies outside the prequels.
In the same tweet, he said that the pseudonym he uses for these cameos was “Patrick Williams.” Hamill has since corrected his earlier mistake, though, revealing that the alias he’s credited under is actually “William M. Thanks to the finale episode of Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian, we just found out that Mark Hamill had a cameo in the first season of the hit D+ live-action series, as the voice of the Ev-9D9 droid in episode 5, “The Gunslinger.” It was a pleasant surprise to discover that the Luke Skywalker legend was involved in the show, but now Hamill has decided to drop an even bigger bombshell: that he’s got even more cameo appearances scattered throughout the Star Wars saga that we had no idea about.
In response to a fan asking him if he had any more secret roles to divulge on Twitter, Hamill decided to come clean. “Now that @themandalorian secret is out-might as well reveal I am vocally represented in All Sw films except the Prequels,” Hamill said. “Thanks to @matthewood for using me in Rogue One, Solo & the Sequels, so I Do have lines in #EpVII.

These are not the droids you’re looking for. But there’s still something oddly familiar about that droid bartender…
The final episode of Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian, which unveils the secrets of the making of the DIsney+ show, has revealed that Luke Skywalker himself, aka Mark Hamill, made a secret cameo in an episode of the show.
The moment came in the fifth episode of the series. In the scene, viewers are taken to the cantina on Tatooine. Yes, the same one from the original Star Wars, A New Hope.
The droid bartender in that scene is voiced by an uncredited Mark Hamill.
Series creator Jon Favreau said the droid’s name is Ev-9D9, and that he was previously seen torturing other droids in Return of the Jedi.
The second season of The Mandalorian is expected to arrive on Disney+ later this year.

It’s finally the weekend and that means it’s time to dig into some new content. That’s right. No matter what your preferred streaming service is, there are a number of new movies/TV shows coming down the pipeline over the next few days.
Be it Netflix, Disney Plus, Amazon, Hulu, HBO, or Showtime and Starz, each platform is offering a nice selection of titles this weekend. Admittedly, it’s not the meatiest time for new content that we’ve had, as the last few weeks of any given month tend to slow down a bit for fresh releases, but there’s still enough here worth getting excited about.
So, let’s dive in, shall we?

Mark Hamill had a secret role in “The Mandalorian,” that nobody knew about until Friday.
On the final episode of the behind-the-scenes docuseries “Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian,” it was revealed that Hamill lent his voice to a character in the Disney+ series. And who he voiced is an Easter Egg hunter’s dream: The droid Ev-9D9.
Disney+ last aired a new episode of “The Mandalorian” in December.

Don’t know who that is? “Star Wars” die-hards will tell you Ev-9D9 is the same droid in “Return of the Jedi” that was responsible for registering new droid acquisitions in Jabba the Hutt’s palace. Even more, the episode in which he turns up — the fifth of the season — takes place on Tatooine, which just so happens to be Luke Skywalker’s home planet.

Mark Hamill recently made his final appearance as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but his voice acting skills may mean that he could appear elsewhere in the saga in various vocal cameos. He’s already lent his tones to Dobbu Scay in The Last Jedi, for instance. And, it turns out, Hamill had a cameo in Disney Plus’ The Mandalorian, too, we just never realized.
The final episode of behind-the-scenes series Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian has arrived on the streaming service today and, in it, EPs Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni discuss the connections to the wider Star Wars saga that they managed to sneak into their show, including Hamill. The franchise legend appeared in episode 5, “The Gunslinger,” as droid Ev-9D9, bartender at the Mos Eisley cantina on Tatooine. Favreau confirmed that Hamill “came in to voice the droid.”

Thank Mickey it’s Friday, as that means a heap of new content is coming to Disney Plus.
The Mouse House streaming site’s release model is to drop a batch of titles in one go, as opposed to Netflix’s preferred tactic of drip-feeding their audience over time. Things have been pretty quiet on the movie front for a while, given the pandemic, but this weekend marks a major upswing in content for cinema lovers, with multiple brand new releases available. Judd Apatow’s The King of Staten Island is unfortunately not up for streaming at present, but Netflix Original Da 5 Bloods, the latest effort from the Oscar-winning Spike Lee, is. For family audiences, there’s also Artemis Fowl over on Disney Plus, which was originally set for a theatrical release back in May.
Even outside of these new films though, there’s plenty of fresh titles coming to the various streaming services this weekend, from classic movies, recent hits, new TV series, old TV series, etc. Whatever combination of services you’re subscribed to, you can fill your whole weekend watching what’s coming to Netflix, Disney Plus, Amazon, HBO Max and the rest over the next few days.

It’s time to check out what Disney+ UK has planned for June! Last month, the streaming service added Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker as its centrepiece, and this month will see the arrival of a first-look premiere in Kenneth Branagh’s new family film Artemis Fowl, which has skipped its cinema release and landed on Disney+. The big budget movie is based on the bestselling book by Eoin Colfer, and follows 12-year-old genius Artemis Fowl as he sets out to find his missing dad. The project boasts a stellar cast that includes Ferdia Show, Colin Farrell, Josh Gad and Judi Dench. We’ll at least get a quick chance to guess for ourselves if it would have been a box office hit for the mouse house or not.

Disney Plus has revealed the full list of movies and TV shows, both original and pre-existing content, that will be coming to the streaming service over the next month. The site will be adding the new titles to its library in three batches throughout June. It’s not the biggest haul of new material if we’re being honest, but there are a few key items you’ll want to look out for.
Most notably, Artemis Fowl is hitting Disney Plus on June 12th. The fantasy movie directed by Thor‘s Kenneth Branagh, and based off the popular Ya novels by Eoin Colfer, was originally set to debut in theaters but has been switched to a streaming release given the Covid-19 pandemic. This is the first time the studio has made such a move, but it’s been noted they may do so again if this one turns out to be successful.

Disney+ has a massive hit on its hands with The Mandalorian, and one of the reasons for that is the character known as The Child, aka Baby Yoda, as nearly everyone calls him.
The doll-like Baby Yoda is a member of the same alien species as Yoda from the Star Wars franchise, and he’s on the run in the series. He’s also going to be a major driver of merchandise for Disney, which has a plush toy available and an animatronic version coming soon.
But way before any of that came to be, there were several designs of Baby Yoda bandied about. The various designs that were under consideration were revealed as part of Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian, a documentary series on Disney+ that takes a behind the scenes look at what went into the making of the hit series, including the creation of Baby Yoda.

Since its launch late last year, Disney streaming service Disney+ has mostly been a place for the enormous entertainment conglomerate to house all of its library content. Big hits like The Mandalorian have been few and far between. Perhaps that changes this month as Disney+ welcomes arguably its biggest original movie yet.
Obviously, Artemis Fowl was never intended to be a Disney+ exclusive. The live-action adaptation of Eoin Colfer’s beloved Ya novel was initially set for a theatrical release. Then Covid-19 reared its ugly head and sent everyone indoors. Now Artemis Fowl is set to be a fascinating test case for how original movies can fare on Disney’s streamer.
Elsewhere throughout the month is the usual Disney+ fare. Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian premieres three of its episodes this month, including the finale on June 19. Be Our Chef also wraps up this month while It’s a Dog’s Life continues on strong.

As you’ve surely heard by now, Artemis Fowl will not be getting a cinematic run. It was originally scheduled for one, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it’s now been pulled from the schedule and will instead be hitting Disney Plus.
In fact, we finally know exactly when to expect it – June 12th. It’ll be just one of many, many new movies/TV shows arriving on the streaming service next month and alongside other titles like new episodes of Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, Tarzan and more, it makes up what’s looking to be a fairly decent line-up of new additions.
In total – if you’re to count all the individual new episodes of the various TV series – there are over 40 pieces of content to look forward to in June and below, you can see the full list of what’s headed our way.

Kathleen Kennedy, the longtime producer and now head of Lucasfilm, has a theory as to why George Lucas decided to return to his famed “Star Wars” series for the Prequel Trilogy after stepping away for a decade.
Kennedy, who worked with the “Star Wars” creator on the “Indiana Jones,” said that she and Lucas spent a lot of time working with director Steven Spielberg on the “Indy” trilogy in the 1980s, and she thinks that working on such large productions, combined with his interest in CGI technology, built a hunger in Lucas to get back to “Star Wars.”
“I don’t think he ever stopped thinking about whether he would do more ‘Star Wars,’ and I think what happened during ‘Indy’ was that he was not on the floor directing. He was not necessarily in it, because it was primarily Steven,” Kennedy shared on an episode of the Disney+ series “Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian.

Over 15 years after the end of the Original Trilogy, George Lucas returned to the Star Wars universe to make the Prequel Trilogy. Regardless of how they went down after the fact, the hype for The Phantom Menace back in 1999 was phenomenal and the franchise’s creator writing and directing new movies to continue the Skywalker saga seemed like the best thing ever. But what was it that led to Lucas deciding to travel back to that galaxy far, far away?
Well, the second episode of Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian has arrived on Disney Plus, offering new insight into the production of the hit TV show. What’s more, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy also spoke about the origins of the prequels in the episode and revealed that we actually have the Indiana Jones series to thank – or maybe blame – for the filmmaker deciding to tell the story of Anakin Skywalker’s early years.
