Spoiler Alert: This story discusses plot elements from “The Idea of You,” which is now streaming on Prime Video.
“Don’t you miss those bombastic, blown out pop choruses of the 2010s?” asks Savan Kotecha, the executive producer behind the music of August Moon — the fictional boy band at the center of “The Idea of You,” a new romance film on Prime Video based on a novel by Robinne Lee.
Nicholas Galitzine plays Hayes Campbell, the lead singer of August Moon, who falls in love with an older woman and single mother Solène (Anne Hathaway) after she brings her daughter to the group’s meet-and-greet at Coachella.
Galitzine first showed signs of vocal prowess when he played Prince Charming opposite Camila Cabello in the 2021 movie musical remake of “Cinderella.” But on “The Idea of You,” Galitzine pushes his boundaries, undergoing boy band bootcamp: lessons from Eric Vetro, vocal coach to Ariana Grande,...

Zack Snyder has been a hot and cold figure in the DC fandom. Even though he has been regarded as one of the most talented filmmakers to have even been part of the franchise, his approach towards certain characters raised several eyebrows during his time working in the universe. He made several fundamental changes to certain characters that completely went against their moral code.
Superman in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel
The best example would be the fact that Ben Affleck’s Batman killed 30 people in the SnyderVerse. In almost every version of the character, the no-killing rule has been the only separation between the Caped Crusader and the villains he fights. Another perfect example would be that of Superman.

Zack Snyder has earned considerable respect and admiration from a lot of his audiences, both for himself as well as his incredible filmmaking skills. But among all the people who commend him on his breathtaking masterpieces and new creative inventions and storylines for his projects, a majority of the massive Star Wars fandom doesn’t seem to be included among his appreciators.

Zack Snyder’s tenure in tee Dcu has been divisive and controversial as he presented DC characters with a certain edge that was not accepted by fans. His presentation of idealistic characters like Superman and Batman being put in dire circumstances provoking them to kill other beings was not something that audiences were not ready to see.

Nevertheless, there have been Snyder loyalists who have defended his edgier take on characters and breaking previously established norms of the DC characters. Right from Man of Steel, Snyder took chances with the Superman lore with a controversial approach to Jonathan Kent’s death scene. Snyder defended this as an important step in Clark Kent’s evolution into being Superman.

The Spiderwick Chronicles dropped on The Roku Channel on Friday and the reviews have been mixed, at best. The series, based on Holly Black and Tony Diterlizzi’s novels of the same name, did not live up to the magic of the original source material. Critics generally found that the series tried telling a modernized version of the story but failed to execute the integral fantasy element. Some fans accuse the series of going too woke, without consideration for the myth and the magic.

Fans call it the Dei Harry Potter, as The Spiderwick Chronicles race-swaps the central sibling trio of Mallory, Jared, and Simon. These characters, originally White in the book, were played by Black actors Noah Cottrell, Lyon Daniels, and Mychala Lee respectively.

Despite Zack Snyder’s significant success in Hollywood as a director, some critics argue that writing may not be his strongest skill. This criticism arose after Snyder attempted to create a Star Wars-inspired world called Rebel Moon, with the first part released the previous year and the second part debuted on the 19th of April. The reviews are officially in, and the consensus is clear, it’s just not clicking with the masses.

Rebel Moon is an IP that Netflix seems to be leaning into, thanks to Zack Snyder’s promise to turn the franchise into something on par with Star Wars. Originally starting out life as an R-rated Star Wars story that had to be buried come Disney’s acquisition of the property.

When it comes to protecting his IPs, Kevin Feige is no less than a clucking mother hen, and Captain America might just be the biggest egg in the basket. After Chris Evans’ swan song moment in Avengers: Endgame, the IP became as invaluable as first-edition art – treasured enough to be left as is but popular enough to be replicated.

Spoilers for "Moon" follow.
Most post-apocalyptic science fiction tales focus on ravaged planets, the despair and hope in re-building human colonies, or the advent of new horrors in an already bleak universe. Duncan Jones' directorial debut, "Moon," zooms in on one man — rather, the various versions of a man long dead — while capturing the acute sense of isolation he feels during a three-year-long solitary stint on the far side of the moon. This man, Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell), is on the verge of breaking free from this lonely, monotonous routine, which is when a rover accident completely destabilizes his concept of self, including the emotion-fueled memories he thought were exclusively his.
When a newly activated Sam clone ventures outside and brings the unconscious Sam inside the facility, the two are immediately mired in conflict about who the "real" Sam is. After all, both men have the same memories about their wife,...

Dn last spoke with Colby Day when we premiered his one-shot short Lead/Follow back in early 2023. Day’s movement-led film caught our eye with its brisk yet all-encompassing depiction of the different stages of a romantic relationship. It’s a really special film and it left us eagerly anticipating what Day would make next. Then earlier this year it was announced that Day’s next project, this time as a screenwriter, would be playing Berlinale before premiering on Netflix shortly after. The project in question was Spaceman, an Adam Sandler and Carey Mulligan-starring science fiction drama directed by Johan Renck about an astronaut deep in the throes of space where he encounters a strange alien spider (voiced by Paul Dano) who helps him reflect on his failings as a husband. Similarly to Lead/Follow, Spaceman is an impressively expansive film that at its heart is about the trials...

Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk had one of the most stagnant character arcs in the MCU, despite the hero being a crucial part of the Avengers team. While behind-the-scenes issues played a major part in the MCU’s failure to explore this character, even solving those issues may no longer help Hulk’s story. The universe has already introduced another superhero dealing with multiple personality disorder — Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight — which undermines the Hulk’s defining characteristic from the comics.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire earlier received mixed to negative reviews from critics who attended the world premiere at the AMC 13 theater in New York. The film had a record-low Tomatometer score of 44%, the lowest among all five movies. Frozen Empire was the fifth theatrical installment and a direct sequel to 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife. However, the film’s audience score tells a whole different story about the film’s reception.
A still from Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
The audience score proves that the veterans under Bill Murray haven’t failed to entertain the masses, with the help of new recruits, including Paul Rudd. After the audience score came out, fans called out the critics for unnecessarily bashing the film.

The beauty of “X-Men ’97” (currently streaming on Disney+) is that it’s more than just a nostalgia trip — it’s a very timely continuation of “X-Men: The Animated Series” that addresses today’s more complicated world while staying true to the spirit of the original. There’s a greater celebration of queer diversity (Morph has been redesigned as a non-binary shapeshifter) but also an accelerated powder keg of hate, which makes the mutants’ enemies much more formidable. This calls for drastic action, which is why the torch has been passed to former arch nemesis Magneto (Matthew Waterson) to lead the X-Men following the loss of Professor Xavier.
The 10-episode animated series also represents Marvel’s first “X-Men” project since regaining the rights from Fox and serves as a prelude to the franchise joining the MCU in this summer’s lone Marvel movie, “Deadpool & Wolverine.” Yet it was vital...

The Dcu films in the Zack Snyder era were undoubtedly divisive among fans. The discourse around the films has mostly steered towards the negative side with many feeling underwhelmed by the undercooked narratives and the unsatisfying world-building. While there were bright spots such as Wonder Woman, Shazam!, and Aquaman, others were not received as well as the three.
Many DC films including Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice are now streaming on Netflix
In addition to Max, Netflix also streamed most of the Dcu films of that era, making them accessible to people all over the world, especially in countries where Max is not available yet. Unfortunately, it seems Netflix is now removing various DC titles from its content by the end of March 2024.

The 2024 Oscars are done and dusted, leaving us with the winners for this year. While few lucky ones will be able to call the night a success thanks to their victories, many others walked out of the event empty-handed and with aching hearts. Oppenheimer won big at the award ceremony, taking home several prestigious awards, including Best Picture. However, Oppenheimer’s victory comes at the expense of another incredible film, Killers of the Flower Moon.
Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)
Killers of the Flower Moon was nominated in ten categories at the Oscars, but luck was not on its side as the film didn’t win a single award. Needless to say, fans are extremely disappointed with the outcome as they believe the film deserved to emerge victorious, at least in a couple of categories, especially Best Actress.

Zack Snyder’s braggadocio reaches new heights as the director argues to Joe Rogan that his movie Rebel Moon did better in theaters than Barbie.
“According to him, Netflix’s whole distribution model is so ‘crazy’ that he thinks more people have probably seen his movie Rebel Moon—Part One: A Child Of Fire than Barbie (when it was in theaters)—due to Netflix’s ubiquity and the fact that you can just throw something on without having to go out to a theater and buy a separate ticket. That seems completely absurd…”

Christopher Nolan has made some of the best movies in the history of Hollywood cinema in all the years that he has been working as a filmmaker. He has made some rather big-budget movies and luckily, all of them have been more or less successful at drawing profits.
Although he has only been making movies with big budgets, he has proved his proficiency as a director with his independent film Memento, which proves that he is capable of good movies on a smaller scale. He does not make franchises unless he finds it relevant.
Case in point: The Dark Knight Trilogy, which is considered one of the best superhero movie series to date. However, he once admitted that he could not have directed another great trilogy, namely The Lord of the Rings (Tlotr).

For this month’s installment of “TV Terrors” we revisit Showtime’s “Masters of Horror,” which was created by Mick Garris and aired for two seasons between 2005 and 2007.
It seemed like a horror fan’s wet dream: a horror anthology series with some of the greatest horror filmmakers of all time lensing short format horror films for premium cable. Although horror icons had teamed in the past to bring us series like “Tales from the Darkside” and “Tales from the Crypt,” there wasn’t a modern series that brought them all together to have a chance to tell their stories in the anthology format. “Masters of Horror” seemed like a prime opportunity to re-invent the waning anthology horror format, and while it didn’t quite re-invent the wheel as planned, it brought with it a lot of great content from some bonafide horror icons.

Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight debuted back in 2022 and was among MCU’s most hotly anticipated projects. The series was set to introduce Marc Spector / Moon Knight, a fan-favorite if underrated character from the pages of Marvel Comics and the intricate web of psychological drama and vigilante action that surrounds the character.
A still from Moon Knight (2022)
However, despite receiving mostly positive reviews, the series has been deemed a disaster by some critics. Given the depth of Marc Spector / Moon Knight’s characterization in the comics and the darker themes associated with his stories, many expected it to be Marvel’s answer to DC’s dark and gritty Batman. Here is why Moon Knight’s comparisons with Batman are inaccurate and where the series truly failed to deliver.

You’ve heard of the 24 Hours of Le Mans? This weekend I attempted something similar for another kind of race, the one to the Oscars. From midday Saturday through Sunday at 9:30 p.m. (with time off for sleep), I ran the awards track from the Shrine in downtown L.A. for the SAG Awards, to the big tent on the beach in Santa Monica for the Indie Spirits, and then to the other side of town at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Hollywood for the Producers Guild Awards (the same location where the season will end in just two weeks at the Oscars’ Governors Ball).
By my count I heard 58 winners speeches during the span, and I can’t even begin to count the number of presenter patter intros. Oh, and one very loud protester on Santa Monica Beach.

After two slow-as-molasses months, things are about to heat up at the 2024 box office in March. Fortunately, for those more inclined to stay home as we wait out the final weeks of winter, there are plenty of alternative options for your entertainment fix to choose from on Netflix. In addition to its usual smattering of kids' shows, international releases, and comedy specials, the streamer will unveil intriguing new projects starring the likes of Millie Bobby Brown and Regina King, along with some endeavors that could only exist on Netflix.
Don't believe me? There's a South Korean comedy series about a woman being turned into a chicken nugget that's written and directed by Lee Byeong-heon, whose 2019 action-comedy "Extreme Job" was the highest-grossing movie in South Korea at the time of its release. Has the streamer found the next "Squid Game" already, or is this one destined to remain a roundly niche offering?...

Some producers will say it’s hard to be a producer in today’s world of streaming vs. theatrical — heck, even post-pandemic, but Gail Berman provided a lot of inspiration while accepting the Norman Lear Award at tonight’s PGA Awards.
At the aorta of her acceptance speech (watch it above) was how she got Buffy the Vampire Slayer off the ground, born out of a 1992 summer B-movie.
“Not a single person was interested in buying that television show,” she said onstage. “I mean not a single person on this Earth was interested in buying that television show. I couldn’t ignore my gut. An empowerment story with a young woman at the center. We got ‘no’ after ‘no’ after ‘no.’ Then one day, we finally got a ‘yes.’ And I gotta say, it all comes down to resilience.”
