James Gunn has plans to bring the most ruthless assassin in the DC comics into his film universe. Gunn recently gave a hint that Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke will be a part of the Dcu. The supervillain is an archenemy of the Teen Titans and has also gone face-to-face with Batman and the entire Justice League. Gunn recently announced a Teen Titans project, which makes it even more convenient for a major Deathstroke appearance.

The character was an elite operative in the U.S. Army who gained enhanced physical and mental abilities from a super-soldier serum. Joe Manganiello portrayed the character in a brief appearance in Zack Snyder’s Justice League but further plans for the character went nowhere.

On October 21, 2021, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed in a tragic on-set accident during the production of the Alec Baldwin film, "Rust." While preparing for a scene as the film's director of photography, Baldwin discharged a live round from a Pietta .45 Colt revolver, which was being used as a prop, injuring director Joel Souza and fatally wounding Hutchins. On February 15, 2022, Hutchins' family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Baldwin (who also served as a producer) and other crew members on "Rust," alleging that her death was wholly preventable and the result of cost-cutting safety measures and irresponsible on-set behavior. Legal proceedings have been ongoing ever since, but today, on-set armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter, as reported by Variety.
As the on-set armorer, it was Gutierrez Reed's responsibility for the safe handling of firearms on set, and was the one who loaded the live bullet into the gun used by Baldwin.

Joe Manganiello’s Slade Wilson / Deathstroke was supposed to make several appearances in the Dceu, including a standalone film with Gareth Evans at the helm. Joe Manganiello in Zack Snyder’s Justice League
The character first appeared in the post-credits scene of the Justice League theatrical cut. However, his appearance was expanded a bit more in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Manganiello was also set to appear in Ben Affleck’s version of The Batman before Matt Reeves took over the project.

Shock-rock legend Alice Cooper has been added to the roster of playable characters in Iron Maiden’s Legacy of the Beast free-to-play mobile game.
The addition of Cooper comes with the new dungeon event “Road Rats Forever,” inspired by his latest album Road. Along the way, they encounter “a gang who’ve turned a derelict gas station into a chop shop” and are forced to “bash a few heads along the way.”
Players can choose from four difficulties for the event and earn Alice Cooper as a playable character upon completion. Alternatively, the Alice Cooper character can be unlocked for free by logging in on any seven days until December 15th, unlocking Cooper himself on the seventh day.

Exclusive: Ed Harris (Westworld), Sonequa Martin-Green (Star Trek: Discovery) and Natalie Morales (No Hard Feelings) have closed deals to lead My Dead Friend Zoe, a dark dramedy about two generations of veterans, family and friendship, which Kyle Hausmann-Stokes will direct in his feature debut.
The film written by Hausmann-Stokes and A.J. Bermudez tells the story of a female veteran (Martin-Green) engaged in a mysterious but comfortable friendship with her wise-cracking (and dead) best friend from the Army (Morales). When the vet is summoned to the remote lake house of her estranged Vietnam vet grandfather (Harris), she is tasked with providing the one thing he refuses…help.

Nita Strauss, who recently rejoined Alice Cooper’s band as lead guitarist, has announced a new solo album. The set, titled The Call of the Void, will drop on July 7th via Sumerian Records.
Strauss explained of the album’s new title in a press release, “Have you ever been at the top of a high building and had the fleeting thought, ‘I could jump right now?’ This feeling is sometimes called ‘The Call of the Void,’ also known as ‘high place phenomenon.’ It’s not a suicidal impulse, rather the exact opposite — a subconscious decision to live your life, to step back from the ledge, and take control. As the news breaks that Alec Baldwin has been cleared of involuntary manslaughter over the fatal shooting of Halyna Hutchins, family and friends of the late cinematographer will be remembering her life and career.
Baldwin was starring in a western film called Rust in Santa Fe, New Mexico, when a prop firearm he was holding discharged, killing Halyna Hutchins, the director of photography, and injuring the director Joul Souza, police said. Hutchins was 42 years old.
While a lawsuit from Hutchins family alleged that the actor “recklessly shot and killed” her, Baldwin, 64, repeatedly denied any wrongdoing in the shooting. The actor maintained that he was told the gun was “cold”, meaning it had no live ammunition, and that as he cocked the gun it went off without him pulling the trigger.
On Thursday, Baldwin’s lawyers announced that all charges against him had been dropped. The decision came weeks before he was due to stand trial.

William Shatner Documentary Beams Up 790,000 in Equity Crowdfunding, Selling Out in Less Than a Week
William Shatner fans bought up all the shares in the actor’s forthcoming feature-length documentary “You Can Call Me Bill” in less than a week — shelling out nearly 790,000 and topping the film’s funding goal.
Legion M’s equity crowdfunding round for the Shatner documentary, exploring the life and career of the beloved 91-year-old actor, as of Monday had sold out from reservation holders before the company opened the offering to the public. Within four days, the project raised 789,655 from 1,338 investors.
Unlike with other crowdfunding models, Legion M lets investors own an equity stake in the entertainment projects they’re backing. With the Shatner doc, fans were able to invest directly in the Shatner documentary for a minimum of 100, subject to certain SEC restrictions, and they will recoup their money before any profits are shared with Shatner, Legion M or the film’s producer, Exhibit A Pictures. The shot fired by Alec Baldwin on the set of “Rust” that would go on to hit director Joel Souza and fatally strike cinematographer Halyna Hutchins narrowly missed another person, gaffer Serge Svetnoy, by “an inch or two, possibly less.” Stunned from the explosion, Svetnoy — a close friend of Hutchins’ — rushed to the cinematographer’s aid, cradling her head and talking to her as her consciousness faded over the next 30 minutes.
That account of the tragedy on the New Mexico set of “Rust” last month was included in a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court by Svetnoy’s lawyers on Wednesday. It’s believed to be the first suit filed in connection to the incident; Svetnoy alleges negligence by Baldwin and his fellow producers, the film’s financiers, armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed, first Ad David Halls, and a long list of others.

Responding quickly to the on-set tragedy that took the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins yesterday, the AFI has established a memorial scholarship in her name for female cinematographers. Hutchins graduated from the AFI Conservatory in 2015 and was selected as one of American Cinematographer’s Rising Stars of 2019 as well as a cinematographer for the 21st Century Fox Dp Lab in 2018. She had since carved a place for herself in a field traditionally dominated by men.
In inaugurating the fund today AFI said, “We pledge to see that Halyna Hutchins will live on in the spirit of all who strive to see their dreams realized in stories well told.” The institute has created a page for those who wish to donate.
Hutchins’ friend and frequent collaborator, director-writer-producer Olia Oparina, expressed the spirit behind the scholarship when she posted a tribute to her friend online tonight, who she says worked for more...

The American Film Institute has set up a scholarship for women cinematographers after the death of “Rust” cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. AFI is now accepting donations for the fund, which “aims to help female cinematographers build sustainable careers in the movie business,” according to director and writer Olia Oparina.
Oparina, who calls Hutchins “her closest friend” and worked with Hutchins on the 2017 film “Snowbound” told Variety in a statement, “From the moment I sat down next to Halyna in UCLA extension’s film directing class, I knew we would be best friends.”
“We moved to Hollywood 11 years ago — two first generation immigrants from Ukraine and Russia who didn’t know a single soul in the movie business. Instead of asking others for a seat at their table, we decided to build our own. As we worked on finishing our master’s degrees, we began to find ‘our tribe’: a group of writers,...

Update, 5:13 p.m. Et Friday: Following Local 44’s Friday email, which described the gun fired by Alec Baldwin as being loaded with “a live single round,” there remains a lack of clarity around what kind of projectile was in the gun.
Citing a source close to Local 44, the Los Angeles Times reported that the union is unaware of what projectile was in the gun fired by Baldwin. The source pointed out that “live” is an industry term that refers to a gun loaded with material, such as a blank, in preparation for filming.
Local 44 did not return IndieWire’s request for comment.
A Baldwin representative told People Thursday that the shooting was an accident “involving the misfire of a prop gun with blanks.” The Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department has declined to reveal details about the nature of the shooting, which led to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza.

Michael Nell knew he needed somebody great to help him capture the darker side of Los Angeles — a world of low-rent motels, bar rooms and back alleys — for “Blindfire.” The movie, which was set to mark Nell’s feature debut, was a tense police thriller that examined issues of social justice and race, and it would take a master of the camera to help him pull it off. That’s how the neophyte director first connected with Halyna Hutchins, a rising cinematographer who was making a name for herself shooting short films and low-budget indies like “Darlin'” and “Snowbound.”
On Thursday, while Hutchins was in New Mexico shooting “Rust,” a Western starring Alec Baldwin, she was shot by a prop gun that contained a live round of ammunition and died at the age of 42. Innovative Artists, which represents Rust director of photography Halyna Hutchins, issued a statement Friday in the wake of Hutchins’ death on the set of the Alec Baldwin Western at Bonanza Creek Ranch outside of Santa Fe, Nm.
“Halyna Hutchins was a ray of light. Always smiling, always hopeful. She decided early on she would take the craft of cinematography by storm and the last couple of years proved she was well on her way,” the agency said.
“Her talent was immense, only surpassed by the love she had for her family. All those in her orbit knew what was coming; a star director of photography, who would be a force to be reckoned with.
“All of us at Innovative Artists are heartbroken. We mourn for her family and we hope this tragedy will reveal new lessons for how to better ensure safety for every crew member on set.”

No one has been arrested in the incident, and no charges have been filed. An investigation is ongoing.

It seems like there are so few good news stories out there at this particular point in time, and for obvious reasons. But if you look hard enough, there are people out there trying to make the world a little brighter in any way that they know how. My dear friend, mentor, and collaborator, writer/director/producer Adam Egypt Mortimer is one of them. Adam has helped me in supportive, immensely meaningful ways when no one else would or could (in my career as Izzy Lee), and I’ll always be grateful for that. A few years back, we spoke about his frustration at the lack of support women filmmakers face within the industry, something I feel acutely. ...

That’s how Film Scout was born, the app that lets a mix of public and industry users on the ground at events like Sundance rate titles they’ve screened. In turn, its fan-owned parent company Legion M uses the insights to invest in acquisition titles and partner with filmmakers on future projects.

Joe Manganiello is a great-looking guy. “Overwhelmingly handsome” describes Adam Egypt Mortimer, who directed the actor in the dark superhero film “Archenemy,” available now on-demand. Mortimer says disrupting Manganiello’s appearance — as well as superhero film norms — is what makes “Archenemy” stand apart from other projects in the genre.
In “Archenemy,” Manganiello plays Max Fist, a disheveled homeless man who claims to be a hero from another dimension who fell through time and space to Earth, where he has no powers. Max teams up with a local teen named Hamster (Skylan Brooks) to wipe out the local drug syndicate.
“This is a character that you simultaneously believe that he is Superman; he has the strength, the incredible handsomeness, the heroic vibe. But he is also completely broken and degraded. Joe and I were really into deconstructing his look, f–king up his teeth, getting him scraggly and growing a beard that his wife [actress Sofia Vergara] really hated,...

Adam Egypt Mortimer saw the release of his action-thriller Archenemy in limited theaters and VOD platforms this past Friday through Rlje Films. Eagle-eyed fans connected the dots and discovered that Archenemy may actually share the same universe as Mortimer’s previous film, the tripped-out psychological horror Daniel Isn’t Real. Archenemy stars “True Blood’s” Joe Manganiello as a man who claims […]...

Bleecker Street’s Wild Mountain Thyme and Rlje Films’ Archenemy are the latest films to throw their hats into the specialty box office space. As we all know, for the past nine months, box office numbers have been stagnant to non-existent because of the pandemic. That said, it’s the same story for these two titles — but they get gold stars for braving the pandemic to make their theatrical debuts.
Written and directed by John Patrick Shanley and starring Emily Blunt and Jamie Dornan, the Ireland-set romance Wild Mountain Thyme opened in 450 theaters and earned an estimated $100,466 to bring its per-theater average of $223. Meanwhile, Adam Egypt Mortimer’s action thriller Archenemy starring Joe Manganiello debuted on 94 screens to gross an estimated $55,7000 for a per-screen average of $590. To further bolster its presence, Alamo Drafthouse, Legion M, SpectreVision and Rlje Films are teaming for a special virtual screening event of Archenemy with...

This weekend, there are six first-run movies in the box office top 10. (The others are reissues.) Of those six titles, five belong to Universal Studios and its specialty arm, Focus Features; they account for more than 60 percent of the weekend’s total gross.
Led by “The Croods: A New Age,” which had no real competition as the #1 title for its third weekend (it alone provided over 40 percent of the weekend gross), the studio’s lineup is not exactly a theater lifeline. All of the films are available on Premium VOD now or will be soon, and total grosses will amount to something over $7 million divided among somewhere between 2,200-2,400 theaters. That would mean an average of around $3,000 per complex. Calculating an average of eight screens per location, that’s about $375 per screen.
Things should improve next week with Sony’s video-game adaptation “Monster Hunter” with Milla Jovovich and Tony Jaa,...

Normally, this would be the time of year when audiences could choose between big, glossy popcorn movies and the prestigious art films out for Oscar glory. But of course, Covid-19 has upended the release schedule and extended the awards season a few months longer into 2021.
But before you despair, just think how fortunate you are to get two Meryl Streep movies in the same week — even if it means having to subscribe to two different streaming platforms to see them. On Netflix, Streep joins Nicole Kidman and James Corden in Ryan Murphy’s adaptation of Broadway musical “The Prom,” in which a group of showbiz folks looking for a cause try to shame a small-town PTA into letting a teenage lesbian attend prom. Over on HBO Max, Streep co-stars with Dianne Wiest and Candice Bergen in “Let Them All Talk,” an overdue-reunion drama in which the three play old friends crossing the Atlantic together.
