Miles Teller has signed on to star in and executive produce “The Gorge” for “The Black Phone” director Scott Derrickson.
The film, which has been described as a high-action, genre-bending love story, will see the “Top Gun: Maverick” star reteam with one of the blockbuster’s producers, Skydance Media.
Derrickson is coming off of the smash success of “The Black Phone,” which has raked in over 155 million at the global box office. He will direct from a spec script penned by “The Tomorrow War” writer Zach Dean.

Setting the agenda for much top Brazilian cinema bowing over 2022-25, Globo Filmes has boarded 20 new Brazilian movies, powering up by far the biggest production slate of any company in Brazil.
New titles from many of Brazil’s good and great range from Cinema Novo veteran Zelito Viana to Oscar-shortlisted Cao Hambuger. The production slate features obvious big commercial plays for domestic audiences such as “Tô de Graça, o Filme,” a movie spin-off from the hugely popular sitcom franchise.
The lineup, however, displays a far larger auteurist edge than in the past, with awaited new movies from young female auteurs such as Juliana Rojas and Beatriz Seigner and battling Black filmmakers Jeferson De, Grace Passo and Sabrina Fidalgo.
The slate also features big crossover titles which bid fair to feature at some of the biggest film festivals around the world, such as Hamburger’s “School Without Gates,” “Macunaíma 21,” from Felipe Bragança and Zahi Guajajara,...

Iddo Goldberg has portrayed engineer Bennett Knox on TNT's juggernaut post-apocalyptic drama-on-rails Snowpiercer from the moment it pulled away from the station, and it's been a helluva journey for Melanie's main man.
In many ways, Ben is a known quantity -- he's proven himself consistently steadfast, dependable, and supportive but grounded in reality -- while remaining a bit of an enigma in terms of his innermost thoughts and motivations.
Via Zoom, Goldberg lets TV Fanatic in on some details of Ben's past, present, and future, as he sees them.
For fans of Snowpiercer who have watched from the beginning, Ben comes part and parcel with the train. He's always been in the engine or wherever his skills have been needed.
He and Javi (Roberto Urbina) kept Melanie's secret that Wilford never boarded when the train departed. Melanie depended on him as both a professional and personal partner.

Following a dismal summer, China’s box office over this year’s three-day Mid-Autumn Festival holiday hit its lowest point since 2014.
Chinese citizens had to work on Saturday, Sept. 18, but enjoyed a three-day vacation for the holiday from Sept. 19-21. Cinemas are operational, but at reduced capacity due to the pandemic.
The cumulative box office for the period this year was only $73 million (RMB472 million), according to Alibaba’s Beacon film data platform. That would make it the lowest earning Mid-Autumn Festival since 2014, when theaters brought in what would convert today to $54 million (RMB350 million), despite the country having nearly 70% fewer screens at the time, according to the China Daily and historic data on screen count.
China’s Mid-Autumn Festival earnings were unusually high in 2017 and 2020 since the holiday coincided with the blockbuster National Day holiday period (Oct. 1) and thus are not directly comparable.

In 1946, when Humphrey Bogart signed an updated contract with Warner Bros., he was able to stipulate a list of directors preferred for future projects. John Huston and Howard Hawks were no surprise—having helmed some of Bogart’s most admired films, they were also good friends with the iconic star—and two more of his chosen directors, John Cromwell and Delmer Daves, were well-regarded for their efficiency and expertise (they each worked with Bogart the very next year). Then there was Michael Curtiz. While he had directed what was perhaps Bogart’s most venerated film, 1942’s Casablanca, in 1946 the director was hardly synonymous with Bogart’s body of work, or his temperament. And yet, it was Curtiz who had engaged Bogart prior to Hawks and Huston, the two directors widely credited with Bogart’s ascent to celebrity; it was Curtiz who was the last of the named directors to work...

Can someone please explain what just happened?
A rollercoaster of emotions was experienced on Manifest Season 3 Episode 12 and Manifest Season 3 Episode 13
This is the only show where so much can happen, and yet, we get absolutely no clear answers.
I knew I shouldn't have believed them when they said we would find out what happened to Flight 828, but still, I watched hour after hour, hoping for something, anything.
It left me with more questions instead.
Grace: I don’t give a damn about the science. It’s my son.
Ben: I told you over and over again there’s some things science can’t explain. Some things you have to go on faith.

Cannes Film Festival’s chief Thierry Fremaux was in a cheerful mood when he announced his sprawling Official Selection during Thursday’s press conference at the Normandie Theater in Paris. Not only because it was the first live event in many months, but most importantly because in spite of all the ups and downs caused by the ongoing pandemic, this year’s lineup is strong, appealing and surprising. Both big-name auteurs like Wes Anderson (“The French Dispatch”), Leos Carax (“Annette”), Paul Verhoeven (“Benedetta”), as well as Asghar Farhadi (“A Hero), Jacques Audiard (“Les Olympiades”) and Andrea Arnold (“Cow”) and filmmakers who will be making their debuts in competition, like Julia Ducournau (“Titane”), Nabil Ayouch (“Casablanca Beats”), Sean Baker (“Red Rocket”), Ildikó Enyedi (“The Story of My Wife”) and Mia Hansen-Løve (“Bergman Island”) were included in the selection. Fremaux was still in a euphoric state of mind several hours after the announcement,...

The flood gates have been opened!
Secrets and lies threatened the Lifeboat on Manifest Season 3 Episode 9, but not before we were served up bleeding eyes, floods, earthquakes, and more!
What an insane episode.
If you watch Manifest online, you're familiar with the Dark Cloud Calling. It loomed large once again to send a warning that Eureka is the epicenter of sketchy activity and answers.
All the pieces are slowly but surely falling into place, but now, it's up to the 828ers to make sense of everything.
And that's where it gets a bit tricky.
There's a lot at play here as the Callings connect to science, the Bible, and Egyptian mythology all at the same time.
From where I'm standing, it seems like Saanvi and the team at Eureka are playing with fire.
While trying to solve the mystery of what happened to Flight 828, Saanvi successfully made the fragment of...

Manifest Season 3 Episodes 7 and 8
“Destination Unknown” is an apt title for the latest episode of Manifest because where in the hell are we headed with all this? As nice as it is to have major developments in the investigation into the callings and their origin and purpose, the introduction of sapphire residue may have been a bridge too far. It’s difficult to say with sci-fi dramas how much made-up stuff is too much; for example, the lifeboat idea was a great twist that raised the stakes considerably. But sapphire dust as an indication of a divine touch? Not so much.
At least with the piece of Noah’s Ark, there’s some feeling of consistency with the ancient Egyptian art from Al-Zuras, the many earlier angel-related callings, and the mythological importance of the peacock to the Greek pantheon. There’s a certain Indiana Jones or...

Exclusive: In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth…and while God was doing that, Timur Bekmambetov created the series iBible — which will be premiering its first five episodes at SXSW starting March 16.
iBible is a screenlife project from Bekmambetov which, as the title suggests, tells biblical stories through the screen of a smartphone via the various apps we interact with on a daily basis. The audience will be able to scroll through two-minute episodes that dive into a famous story from the Book of Genesis: Adam and Eve, Noah’s Ark, Cain and Abel, David and Goliath, Ten Commandments, among others. This would be perfect Quibi fodder… if the mobile platform still existed.

As Brazil emerges from its shoot shutdown, the magnitude of its biggest production, Netflix fiction miniseries “Senna,” about Formula One racing genius Ayrton Senna, is rapidly becoming clearer.
The series, now in development, ticks multiple boxes for both Netflix and its producer, São Paulo-based Gullane.
“Language is no longer a barrier, only ambition and quality are barriers,” Francisco Ramos, Netflix VP of Spanish-language Originals in Latin America, said as a keynote at September’s San Sebastian Festival.
“Senna” certainly has ambition. It will be “the first Netflix title from Brazil conceived from its very inception as a global series,” “Senna” producer Fabiano Gullane told Variety during Ventana Sur.
In order for a Netflix title to “be successful abroad, it first has to have an impact in its own country,” Ramos also observed.

Spearheaded by Cannes Film Market and Argentina’s Incaa agency, Ventana Sur, Latin America’s biggest movie market, will put through an out-of-the-box reset of market dynamics. Running Nov. 30 to Dec. 4, it will also register the energetic and exciting build up of women on the Latin American film scene, as directors, producers and market playmakers.
Following is a down-to-the-wire appreciation of 2020’s edition:
A Multi-City Movie Market Revolution?
Movie markets traditionally take place in one physical setting. No more. In an unprecedented move, the brainchild of Cannes Film Market head Jerome Paillard, Ventana Sur looks set for a game changing five city on-site roll-out to run from Nov. 30 to Dec. 4 in Madrid, Mexico City, Sao Paulo, Santiago de Chile and Colombia’s Bogotá. In some ways, Ventana Sur was unlucky. France’s lockdown lift does not kick in until Dec. 15, nixing planned screenings in Paris, the world’s art film capital.

First of all, sorry if this bursts anyone’s bubble, but sadly Xena: Warrior Princess is not a ‘real’ character from Greek myth. Whereas Hercules and Iolaus from Hercules: The Legendary Journeys are both important characters from Greek mythology, the three most important characters in Xena: Warrior Princess – Xena, Gabrielle, and Callisto – are all original characters with entirely original stories.
Xena does have things in common with some characters from Greek myth. Most obviously, the Amazons are a ‘real’ Greek myth – not a real people, but a mythical tribe who appear in numerous stories from Greek mythology. They were described as a tribe of warrior women, who cut off one breast to make it easier to shoot arrows – oddly enough, the show left out that detail!
The closest non-Amazon character to Xena is probably Atalanta, a huntress who killed centaurs with arrows (with both breasts intact), won a wrestling...

Curated in coordination with the Annecy International Animation Festival and its MIFA market, Animation! at Ventana Sur will feature five productions for its 2020 Works in Progress sidebar, including its first-ever non-Latin American production.

The medium isn’t leaving kids behind, however, and Gullane’s “Noah’s Ark – A Musical Adventure,” one of the most buzzed animated features to come out of Latin America in recent years which boasts Brazil’s largest-ever budget for an animated film, and the first Brazilian animated feature with an Indian co-producer in Symbiosys Technologies.

As summer comes to a close and sweater season begins, many of us will start to incorporate baths into our routine — or stop taking showers altogether. Whether it’s a simple bath with warm water or additions that include bath bombs, salt, candles, books, or wine, baths are an ideal way to decompress from a long day. And these days most of us need to decompress more than ever. Just ask Alabama Shakes frontwoman Brittany Howard, who’s made a delightful hobby of it: “Some people meditate, some people go for runs,...

Miles Teller, king of movie bro-dom, now has something in common with cartoon character Arthur: He too will soon be an aardvark. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Whiplash and War Dogs actor has been tapped to voice the lead role of Gilbert in The Ark And The Aardvark from Kung Fu Panda director John Stevenson. “The Ark” of the title is indeed Noah’s, but this spin on the biblical tale doesn’t sound particularly heavy and/or religious. So, no, this is not a rehash of what Darren Arnofosky put us through a couple years ago. The movie focuses on Teller’s character, a nocturnal mammal “who leads a group of misfit animals though natural disasters and personal anxieties.” Stevenson said in a statement via THR that Gilbert is “young, spirited, sarcastic,” all descriptors that could be applied to any number of Teller performances.

The actor has boarded the voice cast in the lead role as Gilbert in The Ark And The Aardvark, Keith Kjarval’s company confirmed on Monday.
The film tells the story of Noah’s Ark from the perspective of the animals, specifically a group of misfits lead by Teller’s character. Teller currenbtly stars in awards contender Bleed For This.
Oscar-nominee John Stevenson (Kung Fu Panda, the upcoming Gnomeo & Juliet: Sherlock Gnomes) directs the film, currently in production.
Kjarval and Kurt Rauer are producing and Cecil Kramer serves as executive producer alongside Ben Ruffman and Steve Goldstein of Unified, Wayne Godfrey and Robert Jones of The Fyzz, and Kitt Watson of Watson Enterprises.

Academy Award-nominated director John Stevenson of Kung Fu Panda fame will direct Unified Pictures first CG-animated feature, inspired by the story of Noah's Ark. The catch this time around is that tells the story from the point of view of the animals because of course it does. I suppose the Darren Aronofsky take on Noah this year may not have satisfied everyone’s hunger for more "great flood" storytelling. Here’s the synopsis: The story...

John Stevenson ("Kung Fu Panda") has been hired to direct the CG animated feature "Noah's Ark" for Unified Pictures.
Philip Lazebnik ("The Prince Of Egypt," "Mulan") pens the script which tells the Biblical tale from the point of view of the animals. In particular it focuses on an outcast aardvark who becomes the reluctant leader of a ragtag group of misfit animals that need to be led to the mighty ark before the impending flood.
Along their journey, they band together to conquer unforeseen obstacles, and the aardvark discovers inner strength and ingenuity within him.
Cecil Kramer and Stevenson will executive produce the project which is in pre-production ahead of a 2016 release.

The Bible is getting animated. Noah's Ark will tell the Musical story of the animals who are saved by a giant flood from the point of view of a meerkat. Yes, it's a musical, which sounds weird until you realize The Lion King is a musical. In fact, a guy who has written his share of animated musicals Philip Lazebnik, is writing this story as well - he also wrote Mulan, Pocahontas and The Prince of Egypt (which was about Moses). Sharing the director's chair (which is common in animated movies) are John Stevenson, the director of Kung Fu Panda, and Cameron Hood, who was an animator on Prince of Egypt as well as Kung Fu Panda 2 and How to Train Your Dragon.

Unified Pictures is set to produce the modern-day Capra-esque tale 55 Holly Star. Michael A. Nickles, who penned the script, will direct.
The story centers on a down-on-his-luck man who, in a desperate search to decipher the dying words of his grandfather, turns his life upside down.
Production is scheduled to begin next year, with Unified founder Keith Kjarval producing.
"This is a story that has excited us for some time with its unique and fresh slant on a familiar romantic theme," Kjarval said.
The company, which recently completed principal photography on the Rachael Leigh Cook romantic comedy Bob Funk, also is producing the CG-animated Noah's Ark, written by Philip LaZebnik (The Prince of Egypt, Pocahontas) and the psychological thriller Beneath the Shadows.
Unified is in postproduction on the revenge action/drama The Perfect Sleep and the psychological thriller XII.
