With The Shape of Water earning rave reviews and racking up seven Golden Globe nominations, Fox Searchlight is raring to get back into bed with director Guillermo del Toro, pushing two of his gestating projects into development, according to Variety.
Though the sale of 20th Century Fox to Disney is looming and the future of Fox Searchlight could be up in the air, the studio is nonetheless in negotiations with Scott Cooper (Hostiles) to direct the del Toro-produced supernatural film Antlers. Apparently, the two are fans of each other and were eager to collaborate on a project.
In other del Toro news, the prolific director has laid out plans to write and direct a remake of the 1947 carnival-set thriller Nightmare Alley.

Guillermo Del Toro has had a busy schedule in recent years. Since the beginning of 2013, he has been involved in 11 movies, three of which he directed. He has also directed two television series. Recently, he was at a group interview in Morelia Mexico when he made an announcement to the crowd. He told them that he has decided to take a sabbatical from directing. He had planned to direct ‘Fantastic Voyage’ after his latest movie ‘The Shape of Water’. However, he has decided instead to take a break. ‘The Shape of Water’ is complete and will premiere on

Guillermo del Toro is about to hit the big screen in a huge way with December’s “The Shape of Water.” The fairy tale drama won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival earlier this year and is considered one of the biggest Oscar contenders of the season, but you better cherish it because it’ll be the last we see of director del Toro for at least a little while.
Speaking to press at Morelia’s Hotel Virrey de Mendoza in Mexico (via Variety), the filmmaker revealed he’s taking at least a one-year break from directing. “I’m taking a sabbatical for a year as a director,” del Toro said. “I was going to do ‘Fantastic Voyage,’ but after ‘The Shape of Water’ I need to take pause.”

Guillermo del Toro is famous (infamous?) for stockpiling a bunch of projects he'll probably never finish in his lifetime (unless, of course, we perfect cryogenic freezing technology). This includes the shelved Hellboy 3, The Hobbit, In The Mountains Of Madness, etc. However, it looks like the next film (after Fantastic Voyage) will be none other than a documentary about fellow director Michael Mann. It’s no secret that Hollywood likes reaching back into the depths of its own history to see if there’s a property worth remaking. Oftentimes, we end up with necessary remakes, but every so often, there’s a film that could afford a remake, especially if put in the right hands. Such is the case with Fantastic Voyage.
For those unfamiliar, Fantastic Voyage was a film back from 1966 that followed a crew who shrink down and enter someone’s body. It’s very much a film of its era, and while the premise is interesting, pulpy, and ridiculous, one could see its potential. With today’s visual effects, it’s something that could wind up being pretty special, especially with Guillermo del Toro at the helm.

The movie “Fantastic Voyage” has actually been shown in a number of different variations since its original outing in the 1960s. The story is pretty much cut and dried and is bound to be entertaining but in reality it’s almost certainly going to be very close to its original model. The title of Fantastic Voyage makes it sound like the movie will be something far more than what it is, but the true plot of the film has to do with the inner workings of the human body and a mission to save a man’s life. It’s not set to be released until 2020, but Warner Bros. is now said to be “aggressively” moving forward with Green Lantern Corps. They’ve chosen David Goyer (The Dark Knight) and Justin Rhodes (Fantastic Voyage) to pen the screenplay, and the hunt for a director is expected to begin shortly. However, they’ll want to have a finished script in place first.
As expected, Deadline confirms that the two leads will be Hal Jordan and John Stewart, two human Green Lanterns who also so happen to be the most beloved members of the Corps.
Further story details obviously haven’t been revealed at this stage, but we do know that Geoff Johns (a comic book writer with a great deal of history with the Green Lantern Corps and the man overseeing the DC Films Universe these days) will executive produce.

The two-hour special explores the myth of the lost city and will be made in partnership with Associated Producers and Discovery Canada. “Finding the historical and archeological truth behind the Atlantis myth has always been a fascination of mine,” said Cameron in a statement on Monday, the second day of the Banff World Media Festival. “Our exploration team will investigate several new theories about where the real Atlantis was, who these mysterious people were, and what disaster wiped them from the Earth over three millennia ago.”
Shooting will take place in Sicily, Malta, Crete, Santorini and Sardinia, with underwater filming set for off the coast of Spain. The project marks the latest expedition documentary for Cameron, who previously produced 2014’s “Deepsea Challenge,” about his solo diving expeditions, and 2003’s “Ghosts of the Abyss,” about the building of the Titanic.

Few directors amass the amount of potential projects that Guillermo del Toro does. An interesting twist in the ongoing case of what’s happening with “Pacific Rim 2” revealed itself tonight. Former “Daredevil” showrunner Steven S. It looks like Guillermo del Toro has chosen his next project, and it might not be the Fantastic Voyage (or maybe it will be both). No other plot details have been revealed yet, but they do drop this freaky tease about a triptych: "so as to not remind people how badly 'The Red Spot', 'Harold' and 'The Wendigo' traumatized them as children." Guillermo Del Toro and Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark is a marriage that should result in the birth of glorious nightmares for an entire generation of kids. The original Alvin Schwartz books were smart, savvy collections of stories that had been told and retold, like a Grimm Bros. collection for campfire tales, and Stephen Gammell's illustrations in the original editions of the books are a big part of the reason they were as memorable as they were. In late 2013, Patrick Melton & Marcus Dunstan set the project up at CBS Films. They were originally set to write the film. In late 2014, the property changed hands, and John August was brought in on the rewrite. Now it appears that Scary Stories has picked up a terrific filmmaker to bring it to life, and in this Tweet that shows off his original pages from Scary Stories, framed and hanging on the walls of Bleak House,...

Guillermo del Toro vows to press ahead with Pacific Rim 2, confirming that the film is still alive.
Hope remains for the delayed sequel to Pacific Rim, that if all had gone to plan would be shooting by now. Instead, the brakes were put on the project, and director Guillermo del Toro is now apparently leaning towards a remake of Fantastic Voyage.

Del Toro was originally going to do the giant robots vs. monsters sequel as his follow-up to last year's gothic drama "Crimson Peak," but the project was pulled from the release schedule back in September to give the creative team more time to work on the project. At the time Legendary Pictures and Universal remained committed.
Then came word last week that he was in talks to develop a new version of "Fantastic Voyage" at Lightstorm Entertainment and 20th Century Fox, and word earlier today that Legendary has been purchased by Chinese company Wanda.

If James Cameron's career has been known for anything, it's pushing the limits of technology to deliver unparalleled cinematic experiences. If you want to use bleeding edge tech to transport audiences to another world, that world may as well be inside the human body. Cameron and Twentieth Century Fox have been pursuing a remake for over a decade now, with Cameron originally set to direct it back in the late '90s. That obviously never happened and since then Cameron's focus on Avatar and its sequels has kept...

James Cameron may have finally found a stable choice to direct his idea to remake Fantastic Voyage. After being in development for a number of years and only recently seeing any progress made when David Goyer was secured to pen the script back in 2014, the remake of the 1966 sci-fi classic appears to be heading into Guillermo Del Toro's wheel house. With a sizable opening in his schedule... Read More...

Another day, another remake. We've been reporting on this remake for 9 years, ever since rumors began in 2007. James Cameron has been behind a remake of the 1966 sci-fi classic Fantastic Voyage for years and years. THR is now reporting that Guillermo del Toro is in talks to develop and direct the Fantastic Voyage remake for Fox, developing through Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment. There isn't much else to add beyond that, as the movie doesn't even have a date yet so things are still coming together. Which has been the case every time a director starts to develop this project, but I would enjoy seeing Del Toro's take. Over the last few years, Gullermo del Toro has been getting involved in a number of projects, including Trollhunters at DreamWorks Animation and The Jim Henson Company's Pinocchio. But THR says that "with Pacific Rim 2 shelved", Del Toro has been looking for something to direct...

Guillermo del Toro is a name that has definitely made its impact on Hollywood in a big way. From his commendable take on the Hellboy character to his dark fairy tale, "Pan's Labyrinth," del Toro has his name in the mix whenever the term "visionary director" is thrown around. Sure, his films may be polarizing, but you can always expect to find a unique flavor in any movie that boasts his involvement. Following the completion of his recent gothic horror film, "Crimson Peak," the director was hard at work on a follow up to his 2013 Kaiju homage film, "Pacific Rim." However, as was reported some time ago, the film has since been shelved. But as with all creative people in Hollywood, del Toro isn't letting a little stumble keep him down.
According to THR, the director is now in talks to develop and direct a remake of the 1966 science fiction film "Fantastic Voyage.

Guillermo del Toro is touted for every movie under the sun, so take this with a grain of salt, but if things work out, he will be going under the skin for a new version of Fantastic Voyage. He is in talks to develop and direct the film, according to THR. The remake will be produced by Twentieth Century Fox and James Camerson's Lightstorm Entertainment. David Goyer wrote the current script; he and del Toro previously worked together on Blade 2, and if things work out, they will reunite to develop the project. The 1966 original was a medical thriller that followed a team that was shrunken to microscopic size inside a submarine and injected into the bloodstream of an important scientist in order to save his life....

Guillermo del Toro is on the hunt for a new project to jump on now that Pacific Rim 2 seems to have been shelved for the time being. The director is currently in talks to take on the big screen remake of the 1966 sci-fi classic Fantastic Voyage.
The movie is set up at Twentieth Century Fox and is being produced by James Cameron and his Lightstorm Entertainment production company. Cameron and del Toro have worked together before on developing a big screen adaptation of At the Mountains of Madness, which unfortunately never happened. The Fantastic Voyage remake also re-teams the director with writer David Goyer, who is scripting the film. They worked together on Blade II.
Fantastic Voyage was set during the Cold War and centered on a team of scientists who are shrunk to atomic size and sent in a miniature submarine inside the blood stream of a scientist to save his life.

Outside of his gothic passion project, Crimson Peak director Guillermo del Toro struggled to garner much luck in 2015. Not only was Pacific Rim 2 shelved indefinitely, but the filmmaker’s collaboration with decorated video game developer Hideo Kojima for the now-canned Silent Hills reboot quickly unravelled after Kojima’s much-touted fallout with Konami.
As such, the passionate Mexican director is actively casting the net in search of a new project, and it appears del Toro has settled on his next venture: a remake of classic 60s sci-fi film Fantastic Voyage. That’s according to The Hollywood Reporter, noting that the celebrated filmmaker has opened talks to helm the modern retelling that’s in the works over at Twentieth Century Fox and Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment.
Negotiations are still in the early stages, though del Toro’s potential involvement would reunite the director with his Blade 2 screenwriter David Goyer, who has remained...

Considering how his version of The Hobbit never saw the light of day and intriguing projects like At the Mountains of Madness never came to fruition, it was a bit disappointing when Guillermo del Toro‘s latest film, the entertaining gothic horror/romance Crimson Peak, failed to truly connect with audiences. Perhaps as a response, with Pacific Rim 2 shelved, he’s now looking to direct something with a wider appeal.
According to THR, he’s in talks to helm a James Cameron-produced remake of the 1966 sci-fi film Fantastic Voyage. The original revolved around a team of scientists who are shrunk to atomic size and sent on a miniature submarine to save the life of a defecting Soviet scientist. The story then followed the biological adventures the team encounters in trying to save the scientist and themselves.

For years and years now, James Cameron has been shepherding and developing a remake of of the 1966 sci-fi Fantastic Voyage. Shawn Levy ("Night At The Museum," "The Internship") was attached to direct at one point, and a couple years back, David S. Goyer was hired to pen a treatment. Then things went quiet. But now the project is back to life with a pretty exciting name attached to helm. Guillermo del Toro will now direct the flick about a group of scientists who are miniaturized and sent into a human body in a submarine to remove a blood clot from a colleague’s brain. Goyer, who last worked with del Toro on "Blade 2," is now writing the script, and will develop the story with del Toro, with the movie aimed to be tentpole sized, because obviously. Meanwhile, Cameron, who was behind del Toro's efforts to make "At The Mountains Of Madness,...

With the "Pacific Rim" sequel shelved and "Crimson Peak" press commitments all done, Guillermo del Toro is looking for his next project and he may have found it.

From anime to pitch-black thrillers, here's our pick of the underappreciated movies of 1987...
Sometimes, the challenge with these lists isn't just what to put in, but what to leave out. We loved Princess Bride, but with a decent showing at the box office and a huge cult following, isn't it a bit too popular to be described as underappreciated? Likewise Joe Dante's Innerspace, a fabulously geeky, comic reworking of the 60s sci-fi flick, Fantastic Voyage.
What we've gone for instead is a mix of genre fare, dramas and animated films that may have garnered a cult following since, but didn't do well either critically or financially at the time of release. Some of the movies on our list just about made their money back, but none made anything close to the sort of returns enjoyed by the likes of 1987's biggest films - Three Men And A Baby, Fatal Attraction...

The writing process for James Cameron‘s “Avatar” sequels is so “involved” that he has had to push the release date for the first back to late 2017.
The Associated Press reports the Academy Award winner behind “Titanic” and “The Terminator” dropped the bad news for fans hoping to see the first of three new movies in 2016 while promoting the local film industry in Wellington, New Zealand with “Hobbit” director Peter Jackson. Cameron filmed the 2009 blockbuster there, and has returned to produce the three sequels, which will be released over three consecutive years.

Exclusive: Through his work on the Dark Knight, Blade and Ghost Rider series, David S. Goyer has spent more than his share of time in the superhero trenches. At a time when studios are betting bigger than ever on spandex, Goyer is evolving his film and TV production company Phantom Four in the direction they are avoiding. He’s hired as president Kevin Turen, whose background has been with indie films like A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints, Arbitrage, the Robert Redford-starrer All Is Lost and most recently the Toronto film 99 Homes. While Goyer’s got plenty of mainstream projects through his film deal with Warner Bros and TV deal with Universal Television, he wants to devote his resources to empowering makers of the kind of films that are being honored tonight at the Gotham Awards. That includes raising a fund.

A pop-culture touchstone, a nearly all-purpose metaphor and one of the most beloved sci-fi franchises of the Seventies and beyond, the Planet of the Apes films do what all good what-if fantasies should do: hold up a mirror to humanity and reflect our own conflicts, issues and failings back to us through a wildly outrageous premise. The original 1968 movie mixes satire, social commentary, action and suspense, capped by a first-rate twist at the end. ("Damn you, damn you all to hell!")

Just because David S. Goyer is currently hard at work on DC Entertainment properties in both film (Batman V. Superman) and television (Constantine) doesn’t mean he doesn’t have any opinions about Marvel characters -- even though many fans of Marvel may wish differently. During an appearance on screenwriter John August’s Scriptnotes podcast alongside Andrea Berloff, Craig Mazin and Captain America: The Winter Soldier screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, Goyer talked about his theory about the character She-Hulk. Story: David Goyer Joins James Cameron for ‘Fantastic Voyage’ (Exclusive) “So the Hulk was this classic male power fantasy,” he said.
