Sex & Nudity

  • Girls have a short conversation about female genitalia.
  • There are some references to sex in a couple of songs such as, "Wheels on the Bus", "Teachers Pet", "Show and Tell", and "Strawberry Shortcake".
  • In the song "Wheels on the Bus" there is a reference to sex saying "Maya's letting Dan put his hand up her skirt and she's got her hand down his pants." This is not explicitly shown in the film, but the characters do kiss.
  • There is a scene where the three main characters describe the parts of a vagina.
  • There is suggestive choreography throughout some songs, such as 'Strawberry Shortcake' and 'High School Sweethearts'. Female characters dance in revealing costumes.
  • A girl makes a remark about her desire to "get nailed in a confined space".
  • During the song "Strawberry shortcake", a female character is shown topless with her nipples blurred out.
  • Two girls bend over and the wind blows their skirts, allowing us to see their underwear.
  • During the song "Teachers pet", a teacher seems to like a girl by getting close to her and making perverse eye contact with her.
  • A woman sits on a toilet in a stall but all we see is a shot of her legs with her underwear that is stained with menstrual blood.
  • Contains scenes with girls talking about using toilet paper as a substitute for tampons.
  • A character is shown nude, about to be dissected with a scalpel. Her nipples and crotch are blurred out, and the scene is more disturbing than sexual.
  • The song Teacher's Pet is about a sexual relationship between a teacher and his student. Lyrics include "except how to lie and cheat while inside the sheets" "I know I'm young but my mind is well beyond my years" "do you regret the things we shared that I'll never forget"
  • The main character is shown to have her bare breasts out for nearly a whole song.
  • In the song Wheels On The Bus, a character pulls his pants down and moons people with bare butt seen, this is shown for comedic purposes.

Violence & Gore

  • A girl slashes a knife across a guy presumably killing him. All we see is the blood splatter.
  • A girls head is cut open like a can but it is done in a mystical non-violent way. The top of the skull is later opened showing the open skull and bone part.
  • This film is considerably mild regarding violence.
  • A bully cuts another character's arm with a knife during a fight. The bleeding cut is shown and the character is visibly in pain. The bully later boasts about how she 'drew blood'.
  • Two girls swap eyeballs, which is positive in context but may seem creepy to some.
  • Some realistic violence and some fantasy violence.
  • The principal ripped apart in Drama Club
  • A doll's stomach is shown cracked open with it's exposed intestines. But there is no blood and it is done in a comical way.
  • A girl is shown armed while murdering a teacher. After the 'knifery', the girl is shown with minimal blood on her face.

Profanity

  • K-12 features songs from Melanie Martinez's new album that has explicit lyrics.
  • Use of "fuck" is a lot and several uses of "shit" respectively.
  • 64 uses of the F-word (yes, I counted just for the fun of it) and various other curse words (several S, some B, A, Dick, a few uses of damn, and name calling)
  • Crybaby flips off the camera while dancing to 'High School Sweethearts'

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • There are lots of drugs and drinking a teacher is seen using cocaine several times and another teacher almost dies from drinking a blue liquid.

  • 2 girls are seen smoking weed. They say "do you realize how many medical benefits Mary Jane has? We don't deserve her." The Mary Jane they are talking about is Marijuana.
  • In Class Fight, you can see that Crybaby's mom is lying on the floor. There is also a bottle, a glass and a cigarette stub on the floor, implying that she was smoking and that she has passed out from drinking too much alcohol.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The movie can get dark at times and a bit intense as well, but nothing is too extreme a few violent and 'gory' scenes are featured in the film (see violence and gore section) as it can be considered as an eerie musical.
  • One of the main characters suffer with an eating disorder (Bulimia). This may be triggering to some viewers.
  • The is a scene where a girl Is shown vomiting in a bathroom stall.
  • The messages that are showcased in the film can be seen as frightening and disturbing, as the film takes on many dark themes like pedophilia, corrupt people in power, prescription drug use, eating disorders, etc. Although, some are done in a way where it isn't outright disturbing, and a lot of themes are depicted through metaphor rather than it being outright obvious.
  • transphobia is shown; a professor at the school is seen to be a man transitioning into a woman, but is not accepted by the staff. the headteacher says "i can't let you influence the children with this ridiculous behaviour," and when they say they want to be addressed as 'miss harper' a professor laughs. they then go onto firing them and then calling them 'mr harper'. this could be upsetting to trans viewers as they mis gender them many times and don't support them.
