Even with its shortcomings, Marvel's "What If...?" season 1 is the closest the Marvel Cinematic Universe has come to realizing the true potential of the multiverse in terms of storytelling. The hope, then, is that the animated series will dispense with the training wheels entirely with its next batch of episodes and really have fun with the concept, rather than restricting itself to re-imagining events from MCU movies and TV shows past. And so far, it appears season 2 will do just that, with an episode inspired by the Neil Gaiman-penned Elizabethan era comic arc "1602" and another one centered on a brand-new character in the form of the Mohawk hero Kahhori.
Of course, there's still plenty of room for new stories featuring old favorites, including treasured supporting players and frequent comic relief sidekicks Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) and Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau). Those two specifically will team up in "What If.

The Man Behind ‘Mandalorian’: Jon Favreau Talks Season 3, ‘Skeleton Crew’ and His Walk of Fame Honor
At the center of the two biggest pop culture empires of this generation, the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the “Star Wars” franchise, lies one architect who helped launch them into modern greatness: Jon Favreau.
Fifteen years ago, the actor-turned-filmmaker directed a film about a B-list superhero with a not-yet-bankable movie star when comic-book films were more flukes than surefire hits. That movie turned out to be “Iron Man,” starring Robert Downey Jr. (with Favreau also playing his right-hand man Happy Hogan) and, after dozens of spinoffs, theme-park rides and box office records, the rest is comic-book history.
Recently, Favreau has traded his Repulsor gloves for lightsabers. He’s charting the future of “Star Wars” across several TV series, beginning with “The Mandalorian,” the flagship Disney+ show that debuted on Day 1 of the streamer. The Western-themed “Star Wars” series premieres its third season on March 1, and it’s already spawned several...

Anthony Bourdain‘s legacy centered around cooking on and off television. He went from being an executive chef in Les Halles to being a TV personality in various food shows. He even became an author of a best-selling book early in his career.
The book he wrote was titled Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly. It is a memoir and an inside look at kitchens in high-end restaurants. Additionally, one of the stories in it influenced a scene in Chef.
‘Chef’ is a movie that stars Jon Favreau
Chef is a 2014 road comedy-drama about Carl, a chef who gets into an incident with a critic. As a result, he gets fired from his job at a well-known restaurant. He then travels to Miami with his son and ex-wife and acquires a run-down food truck.

Academy Award winner Gwyneth Paltrow hasn’t been onscreen since 2020’s “The Politician,” and the Goop founder is just fine leaving it that way.
Paltrow admitted in a preview clip of this week’s Sunday ”Today” show, airing July 24, that she doesn’t feel the need to return to acting anytime soon. “I really don’t miss it at all,” Paltrow told host Willie Geist. “I think I’m so lucky that I got to do it, and I still, I’m sure I still will, at some point.”
She added, “The team is always trying to get me to do a movie, but I really love what I do. And I love how immediate it is, and how, you know, we’re able to create product out of thin air that we believe in so much.”
And Paltrow’s next acting gig may not be in a film or TV role at all.

The 73rd annual Directors Guild of America Awards kicked off on Saturday evening. The awards honored the best directing in film and television of the past year.
This year, nominees Lee Isaac Chung for “Minari,” Emerald Fennell for “Promising Young Woman,” David Fincher for “Mank,” Aaron Sorkin for “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” and Chloé Zhao for “Nomadland” vied for the top directorial prize for film, with Zhao winning.
On the TV side, “The Queen’s Gambit,” “Homeland,” and “The Flight Attendant” won the major prizes, shaking up the race as we head into Emmys season.
The DGA prize is often considered a bellwether for the Best Director Oscar. The 73rd Directors Guild of America Awards took place on Saturday, April 10 in a virtual ceremony. These kudos honored the best helmers of the year in film and television, as voted on by more than 18,000 members of the directing guild. The all-important DGA feature film nominees were Chloe Zhao (“Nomadland”), Lee Isaac Chung (“Minari”), David Fincher (“Mank”), Emerald Fennell (“Promising Young Woman”) and Aaron Sorkin (“The Trial of the Chicago 7”). Scroll down for the full winners list in three film and eight TV categories.
The DGA’s feature film category is one of the most telling bellwethers for the Best Director Oscar. The guild and the academy have only disagreed eight times over the past seven decades, including last year when Sam Mendes (“1917”) won the DGA but Bong Joon Ho (“Parasite”) claimed the Oscar. If you’ve been holding out hope for Pepper Potts to get her own solo feature, you might be waiting awhile. Actress Gwyneth Paltrow, who portrayed Tony Stark’s Girl Friday over the length of the MCU features, discussed whether she’d be open to returning in an interview with People magazine.
“I think if it was a small part that I could do in like a day or two, I would of course be open to that,” Paltrow said.
This isn’t surprising, as Paltrow has been open about her ambivalence towards the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In an interview with Empire Magazine in 2019, the Academy Award-winning actress and Goop mogul revealed that during a Marvel Studios 10th-anniversary photo call, she had no idea why Samuel L. Jackson made an appearance. According to producer Kevin Feige, actors on set had to reassure Paltrow, “‘What are you talking about? He’s Nick Fury!

The Directors Guild of America (DGA) announced the television nominations for the 2020 DGA Awards on Monday, honoring “Ted Lasso,” “WandaVision,” and “The Queen’s Gambit” as examples of some of the finest directorial work that the medium has to offer.
Both Comedy and Drama categories saw complete turnover in nominees from 2019, with none of the series honored last year airing episodes during the window of eligibility in 2020. Therefore the celebration is guaranteed to get an injection of fresh blood, a welcome development with any awards body.
Curiously, the wide open field allowed for some surprising series to garner their first ever DGA nominations, including AMC’s “Better Call Saul” and Disney+’s “The Mandalorian.”
Also announced today were the DGA Award nominations for Documentary, including nods for “Boys State” and “The Truffle Hunters.”

Jon Favreau is firmly embedded in the very fabric of Disney these days, and has become one of the company’s favorite sons after delivering consistent success every time he’s collaborated with the studio. Although he directed the McU’s Iron Man and Iron Man 2 before Marvel was purchased by the Mouse House, he’s remained a recurring presence in the franchise as Happy Hogan, and is established as a key supporting player in the Spider-Man series.
Not only that, but as well as helming the live-action remake of The Jungle Book, he also took the reins on The Lion King. Admittedly, almost anyone could have directed that movie and it would have been a massive success, but Favreau is still the man responsible for the seventh highest-grossing film ever made.

An overwhelming amount of subscribers might not have been able to look past Enola Holmes when it debuted on Wednesday, with the literary adaptation dominating both the online chatter and Top 10 most-watched list ever since, but the apparent franchise starter wasn’t the only title to arrive on Netflix this week worthy of spending a couple of hours on.
Of course, the streaming service isn’t in the position to have a library built entirely on in-house content, and likely won’t be for a long while yet, but as the platform with seemingly the biggest bank account that’s spending $20 billion on original projects alone and millions more on the distribution rights to pre-existing material each year, Netflix have long since established themselves as the ones to beat.

There’s something irresistible about an overhead shot of someone preparing food. It’s what’s powered thousands of social-ready clips touting adjective-filled recipe names, prepared by unseen cooks.
That angle, long a staple of food TV, is also found in Season 4 of “The Chef Show,” the Netflix cooking series co-hosted by acclaimed Los Angeles food fixture Roy Choi and writer/director Jon Favreau. Instead of building the show on artifice and impeccable presentation, Favreau and Choi continue to usher the viewer through a breezy set of kitchen basics, with these latest five episodes centering on the pair’s private setup and the various buzzy L.A. food venues.
It helps that these episodes don’t engage in any lengthy preambles about the chef in the spotlight. Over the previous three seasons, “The Chef Show” — with Choi’s imprimatur — has already built a reputation that whatever dish is on display is worth your time.

Once again, Netflix have found one of their original movies dominating the cultural conversation, as The Devil All the Time continues to reside in the upper echelons of the Top 10 most-watched list. Much of the praise is being pointed in the direction of Tom Holland’s transformative performance, and while the psychological thriller won’t be the awards season contender that many thought it might be, the Spider-Man star’s phenomenal work could yet see him enter the conversation.
Of course, with the streaming wars in full swing and competition getting fiercer every day as rival platforms constantly expand their libraries, Netflix can’t afford to stand still for even a second and bask in their latest success. Which is why next week sees plenty of new additions, including another in-house feature that’s being earmarked as a potential franchise starter.

“I’m very moved by this,” “Chernobyl” director Johan Renck said of his award. “As a Swede I really believe in the power of unions and organized labor for justice and solidarity.”

When the winners of the 72nd Directors Guild of America ceremony were handed out Saturday, January 25, all eyes were on the feature film category. (Read our live blog here.) Would Sam Mendes (“1917”) continue his winning streak after claiming the Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Award? Would Bong Joon Ho (“Parasite”), who tied Mendes with the critics, prevail with the directors guild? Or would Martin Scorsese (“The Irishman”), Quentin Tarantino (“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”) or Taika Waititi (“Jojo Rabbit”) triumph instead? Scroll down to see who won all of the film and TV categories at the 2020 DGA Awards, which took place at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles.

While appearing at the Golden Globes on Sunday night, frequent Marvel star Gwyneth Paltrow made headlines for her revealing dress. But she also let slip that she’s “semi-retired” from acting. Apparently, the Oscar winner’s focusing more on her company Goop now, which offers personal wellness products.
“I’m sort of semi-retired from acting a bit because I have a company [Goop] that I do,” Paltrow told DigitalSpy. “I’m Gooped from head-to-toe but [Falchuk was] very charming.”
This isn’t much of a surprise when you look at her recent work, either. In the past seven years, she’s been in five movies with four of them being Marvel productions. The other was Mortdecai, which I’m sure even she’d like to forget ever happened. She was also a producer and featured on the recent Netflix show, The Politician

The Directors Guild of America announced only a handful of nominations on the TV front on January 6, after a glitch in voting. Jill Soloway, who won in 2015 for helming “Transparent,” was left off the ballot for the series finale. So the guild is letting its members recast their votes in that category. The DGA will reveal the results of that on Friday, along with the nominees for drama series and specials. (The feature film nominations are still a go for Tuesday.)
Among Monday’s nominations, “Fosse/Verdon” led the way with three bids in the TV Movie or Limited Series race: Emmy nominees Thomas Kail and Jessica Yu are joined by Minki Spiro. Emmy champ Johan Renck (“Chernobyl”), Emmy nominee Ava DuVernay (“When They See Us”) and Vince Gilligan (“El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie”) round out the race.

It was a strange morning for the Director’s Guild of America (DGA) Monday, as the organization announced some — but not all — of the TV nominations for the 2020 DGA Awards.
A note included in the official nomination statement explained that the nods for the Comedy Series, Dramatic Series, and Variety/Talk/News/Sports — Specials categories will be announced on Friday, rather than today as scheduled, due to an error related to the organization’s newly implemented electronic entry submissions process. The categories in question require a re-vote, the DGA explained. Variety reported last week that the DGA sent members an email stating that “Transparent” creator Jill Soloway had been mistakenly omitted from the comedy series ballot for her direction of “Transparent Musicale Finale,” and advising members to recast their vote in the category if they so chose.

Goop mogul, published author, and actress Gwyneth Paltrow is busy. So busy, in fact, that she not only hasn’t seen the Marvel movies she’s participated in — or is seemingly even aware that she was in them at all — she also doesn’t have the time to do too many takes on set.
According to a Variety interview with Ben Platt, her co-star on Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series “The Politician,” the biggest perk of working with the Academy Award winner is her efficiency.
“We never have to do many takes because a) she’s brilliant and she never needs more than a few and b) she simply doesn’t have time so whenever Gwyneth was there, everyone is on their toes and working at their most efficient level,” Platt said.

Gwyneth Paltrow is opening up about why she can’t seem to keep track of all the Marvel films she’s been in.
The actress, 47, spoke to Elle magazine about the films, saying, “It is confusing because there are so many Marvel movies.”
The mother of two also admitted she hasn’t seen most of them.
“To be honest, I haven’t seen very many of them,” Paltrow said. “It’s really stupid and I’m sorry, but I’m a 47-year-old mother.”

You’d think that being a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be something worth remembering. Well, as we all know, it isn’t that big of a deal to Gwyneth Paltrow, who’s been a part of the revolutionary franchise from the ground floor. And now, she’s finally explained why that is.
Earlier this summer, the 47-year-old actress made headlines when she revealed to Jon Favreau on his food series, The Chef Show, that she didn’t remember being in Spider-Man: Homecoming. And ever since, her astonishing amount of disinterest in the McU has continued to snowball.
Remember when Sebastian Stan – the Winter Soldier – said that he had to introduce himself to her (twice!)? Or when she forgot that Samuel L. Jackson was even a part of the cinematic universe? Yeah, it’s all pretty crazy.
But now, the Academy-Award winning actress has finally provided some explanation to her lack of memory.

Now that the issue of Spider-Man’s future within the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been resolved, fans of the web-slinger can turn their attention to the real problem that’s been bothering them for months: How Gwyneth Paltrow, a.k.a. Pepper Potts, have possibly forgotten that she appeared in “Spider-Man: Homecoming.”
Jimmy Kimmel is our hero without a cape in this saga, as he asked Paltrow that question when she stopped by “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Wednesday to promote “The Politician,” the Ryan Murphy-created Netflix series in which she stars.
The ABC late-night host started by recapping a moment from Jon Favreau’s cooking show, “The Chef Show,” which featured Favreau (who plays Happy Hogan in the McU) trying to jog Gwyn’s memory about them both having appeared in “Homecoming.”

This probably comes as little shock since, until this summer, Gwyneth Paltrow had no idea she appeared in Marvel’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” but the actress admitted she’s never seen the 2017 web-slinging adventure.
Paltrow, who portrays Pepper Potts in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, explained a gaffe that went viral, in which she forgot she had a scene in Tom Holland’s first Spider-Man standalone film. In June, a clip from Jon Favreau’s “The Chef Show” made rounds on the world wide web when Paltrow insisted she wasn’t in “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” Favreau, who plays Iron Man’s confidant Happy Hogan, has a brief scene with Paltrow and Holland at the end of the film.
“I just got confused,” Paltrow told Jimmy Kimmel Wednesday night on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” “There’s so many of these wonderful Marvel interconnecting movies, and I thought that it was an Avengers movie but it was not.

Gwyneth Paltrow made another Marvel Cinematic Universe gaffe this week. In a new interview with Empire Magazine, the Academy Award-winning actress and Goop mogul revealed that during a Marvel Studios 10th-anniversary photo call, she had no idea why Samuel L. Jackson made an appearance. According to producer Kevin Feige, actors on set had to reassure Paltrow, “‘What are you talking about? He’s Nick Fury! You’ve been in movies with him.'”
This is the second time Paltrow has unveiled her ignorance of her place in the McU, in which she plays Stark Industries CEO Pepper Potts, beginning with the “Iron Man” films opposite Robert Downey, Jr. Earlier this summer, Paltrow had the startling revelation while appearing on fellow Marvel co-star Jon Favreau’s Netflix series “The Chef Show” that her character was featured in the Tom Holland-starring “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” “No, I wasn’t in ‘Spider-Man,’” she said, “I was in ‘Avengers,...

Despite both having appeared in multiple Marvel movies since kicking off the franchise with 2008’s Iron Man, it appears that Gwyneth Paltrow had no idea Samuel L. Jackson plays a prominent figure in the McU. This comes from Marvel boss Kevin Feige, who said that while filming Tony Stark’s funeral for Avengers: Endgame, Paltrow openly questioned what Jackson was doing there, even though he’s played Nick Fury for over ten years.
In a new interview with Empire, the Marvel Studios president disclosed some behind the scenes info about the “most expensive shot in movie history,” codenamed ‘The Wedding’ during production to throw off any potential spoiler leaks. It would be an understatement to say that Jon Favreau has had a pretty good 2019 so far. We’re barely even halfway through the year and the 52 year-old has already executive produced and cameoed in Avengers: Endgame, starred in Spider-Man: Far From Home (which recently crossed a billion dollars at the box office), released spinoff cooking series The Chef Show onto Netflix and seen his latest directorial effort The Lion King earn over $700 million worldwide after less than two weeks in cinemas.

Netflix continues to invest in food programming. Next up for the streamer is a second series from Ugly Delicious star David Chang and more episodes of Jon Favreau and Roy Choi's The Chef Show — both of which are expected to drop globally for subscribers in the fall.

We’re really starting to get a sense of where Gwyneth Paltrow‘s priorities lie.
The Academy Award-winning actress, despite appearing several times alongside Tony Stark in the McU, seems to place film’s most successful franchise on the back-burner whenever she’s involved. This isn’t to criticize her performances, but rather her memories of the events, or lack thereof.
A couple weeks ago, a segment of The Chef Show went viral online that featured Paltrow finding out she’d been in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. While this is more understandable, given Marvel’s reputation for providing as little detail as possible to its actors and also the fact that Pepper Potts was only in the film for a couple of minutes, another video surfaced last month that showed her asking Chris Pratt who Sebastian Stan was at the premiere of Avengers: Infinity War.

Less than a month after Gwyneth Paltrow broke Tom Holland’s heart by completely forgetting that she was in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Jon Favreau says that he has a confession to make. The actor/director who’s played a huge role in plenty of Marvel movies has revealed that he too has trouble remembering which films he’s been a part of.
“With the Marvel things, they have so many films happening at the same time and all of them interweave with one another,” he says. “Oftentimes you’re not exactly sure what’s happening, even me. I’m an executive producer on [Avengers: Endgame], I didn’t always know what was going on.”
Wait till Holland hears about this! If he thought the Paltrow comments were heartbreaking, this is just going to make matters even worse. Next thing he knows, Robert Downey Jr. will be struggling to recall the time...
