Storyline
Did you know
- GoofsZelda states she has been waiting "12 years, three months and four days (but who's counting?)" to hear Dobie propose marriage. Dobie later states that he and Zelda "grew up together." But the series established that Dobie and Zelda first met in high school at most only a couple years earlier, as presented in the episode, "Love is a Science."
- Quotes
Mr. Leander Pomfritt: And now, can anyone in this class give me a concise definition of marriage? How about you, Mr. Krebs? I would like a definition that is well-reasoned and thoughtful and I withdraw the question.
Maynard G. Krebs: That ain't kind, your diplomaship. You're all the time saying I don't know the answer without giving me a chance.
Mr. Leander Pomfritt: You're absolutely right, Mr. Krebs. Forgive me.
Maynard G. Krebs: You're like forgiven.
Mr. Leander Pomfritt: Like thank you.
Maynard G. Krebs: Like you're welcome.
Mr. Leander Pomfritt: Can you answer the question?
Maynard G. Krebs: Like no.
Mr. Leander Pomfritt: Like that's what I figured! And now to return from this voyage to a lost continent...

Zelda is as amazed as she is deliriously happy. After all, as she tells the story, she has been impatiently waiting "12 years, three months and four days!" HOWEVER... Herb has second thoughts about the whole thing. He says, "I'll dance ar your wedding and then I'll go in the alley and cut my throat!"
He storms into Mr. Pomfritt's classroom and threatens to punch him out --unless he could sort everything out to his satisfaction. In a hilarious exchange with Herb, Mrs. Gillis, Dobie and Zelda, Mr. Pomfritt says the most important thing is that Dobie comes from a very happy family. Herb argues back that everybody actually hates each other! Therefore, Dobie has NO chance in having a marriage that will work. Case closed.
It looks like it's all up to Dobie and Zelda, who have a very honest, soul searching heart to heart talk as to their future... and maybe, maybe they should wait a bit longer. Ya think?
As always, the ending is a lot of fun and a little poignant at the same time. Well writen by Lester Pine, who wrote most of the episodes for MR. LUCKY and several for PETER GUNN.
