David Seidler, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of “The King’s Speech,” died Saturday while on a fly-fishing expedition in New Zealand. He was 86.
“David was in the place he loved most in the world — New Zealand — doing what gave him the greatest peace which was fly-fishing,” his longtime manager Jeff Aghassi said in a statement. “If given the chance, it is exactly as he would have scripted it.”
Seidler won the Academy Award for best original screenplay for 2010’s “The King’s Speech,” directed by Tom Hooper and starring Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter. The historical drama also went on to win best picture, best director and best actor.
The stage version of “The King’s Speech” has been translated to more than a half-dozen languages and has been performed on four continents. After being staged at the Wyndham’s Theatre on London’s West End in 2012, the play was supposed to head to Broadway,...

Count Dracula, the most well-known and perhaps most sinister of all vampires, may lurk in a work of fiction, but author Bram Stoker named the ultimate creature of the night after a real-life man of terror: Vlad the Impaler. Known officially as Vlad III Dracula (the surname translating to “Son of the Dragon”), the on-again, off-again Prince of Wallachia in the mid-1400′s was feared across Europe for his sadistic practice of impaling his enemies on stakes. Now the tomb of this long-dead man of malice may have been discovered.
Vlad’s rule ended in 1476 when defeat came at the hands of the Ottoman Empire. Though Vlad’s ultimate fate has never been determined, one popular belief was that the prince had been beheaded, with his head delivered to Constantinople and the rest of his body sent to a monastery in Romania, a land where some viewed Vlad as a...

Today saw the release of the Graveyard of Empires trade paperback, collecting the popular zombie mini-series from Mark Sable and Paul Azaceta. We recently had a chance to talk with the two of them, and learned about the research that went into the story, the reaction the book received from the military community, and the possibility of a Graveyard of Empires movie:
About Graveyard of Empires: “Afghanistan. U.S. Marines face a never-ending onslaught of Taliban. But even hell can get worse. The dead are coming back to life in The Graveyard of Empires, and only together can both sides of the today’s conflict survive tomorrow’s undead assault. Writer Mark Sable (Unthinkable, Two-Face Year One) reunites with his Grounded co-creator, Paul Azaceta (Amazing Spider-Man) to tell this critically claimed, controversial tale of terror. Featuring an all-new story created by Paul Azaceta in his comics writing debut!”

With studios dumping so many high-profile movie projects lately — this past week alone, Legendary Pictures pulled the plug on Paradise Lost and Columbia Pictures and Screen Gems dumped The Boys and The Mortal Instruments, respectively — it's kind of refreshing to hear that a once-dead movie project is getting new life. According to Deadline, Universal Pictures has revived Dracula Year Zero and is currently in negotiations with short film and commercial director Gary Shore to helm the movie, which focuses on Vlad "The Impaler" Tepes, the real-life Romanian Prince of Wallachia whose title "Dracula" ("Son of the Dragon") became synonymous with vampires following the publication of Bram Stoker's 1897 novel of the same name.
