Some people’s lives are best told truthfully, others more loosely.
In one corner, we have Rocky, the iconic Best Picture-winning boxing movie starring Sylvester Stallone as the made-up Rocky Balboa. In the other corner, we have Chuck, an upcoming biopic starring Liev Schreiber as real-life boxer Chuck Wepner. The latter primarily depicts the 1975 bout between Wepner and Muhammad Ali, which inspired Stallone to write the script for Rocky. He’s since tried to downplay the connection, especially after being sued by Wepner, but it’s close enough to being a film a clef as any.
Chuck received mostly positive reviews when it played the big film festivals last fall, but it’s unlikely to become the phenomenon, let alone Oscar darling, that Rocky was. Its legacy surely won’t be as lasting, in part because true biopics don’t tend to get sequels. There are a lot of benefits to fictionalized accounts of real events and...

Perhaps one of Val Kilmer’s best performances was in 1993′s Tombstone as Doc Holiday, the story of Wyatt Earp and his brothers during the infamous Gunfight at the O.K. Corral. Well, First Showing is reporting that Val is heading back to this familiar story in The First Ride of Wyatt Earp, which is described as a cool Young Guns version of the Kevin Costner Wyatt Earp film from 1994.
No, Kilmer won’t return as Doc Holiday, which is now played by Wilson Bethel (HBO’s Generation Kill ). Instead, he’s tapped to play Wyatt Earp! Hmm, like the choice? The film is being directed by Michael Feifer (Ed Gein: The Butcher of Plainfield).
This could be something of interest, as Kilmer has done a slew of Dtv films recently of little importance.

Val Kilmer will play the elderly Wyatt Earp in indie Western The First Ride of Wyatt Earp, which Michael Feifer is directing. The screenplay is penned by Darren Benjamin Shepherd and the flick is now in production in California. Barry Barnholtz and Jeffrey Schenck are producing through Hybrid banner, and Peter Sullivan is co-producing.
Val Kilmer has been involved in the Wyatt Earp story once before, playing Doc Holliday in Tombstone. He earlier played the title character in the TV movie Billy the Kid, so he is definitely not a newcomer to Western.
The storyline will be about a journalist interviewing a senior citizen Earp about his legendary days as a marshal in the Wild West and they’ll show the story about his rounding up a posse to find the outlaw that mistakenly killed the woman he loved.

Val Kilmer has been part of the Wyatt Earp story once before, playing Doc Holliday in Tombstone. ("I'm your huckleberry" [1] should be a line etched into the brain of any western fan.) Now he's going back to the classic tale, and this time he's playing Wyatt Earp, in the indie western The First Ride of Wyatt Earp. The film was written by Darren Benjamin Shepherd, and will be directed by Mike Feifer. The story, says Variety [2], " finds an elderly Earp sitting down with a reporter to reflect on the ride that made him a legend, when the young marshal rounded up a posse to track down the outlaw who mistakenly murdered the woman he loved." So will Val Kilmer play both the older Earp and the younger? Right now we don't know. Wilson Bethel plays Doc Holliday, Daniel Booko plays Spike Kennedy, and Trace Adkins, Miracle Laurie, Steven Grayhm and...

Kane Hodder is man known for his ability to kill. After playing the unstoppable Jason Voorhees for four films in the legendary Friday the 13th series, Hodder has moved on to star in a number of successful and influential genre and non-genre films. Back in 2006 he returned to the woods to become the maniacal Victor Crowley in Adam Green’s homage to the slasher film, Hatchet. His large size and ability to tap into the homicidal rage that was the character’s trademark made Crowley an instant icon in fan’s minds.
After exhibiting some real acting chops in the 2010 film Btk, Kane revisited the swamp and put Crowley’s blood-stained overalls on for the unrated and controversial Hatchet II. His dual performance as Crowley’s father, Thomas, was eye-opening due to the fact that Hodder did such a credible and sympathetic job in portraying a man who’d been cursed by siring a madman.

I know I’m at Los Angeles’ American Film Market when, as soon as I get off the plane, I run into Lloyd Kaufman (in a men’s room, no less). The Troma chief serves as the Chairman of the Independent Film and Television Alliance, which runs the Afm. Who better to chair an organization and market dedicated to discovering and promoting movies created outside the studio system than Kaufman?
This November, the Afm unveils over 500 films in dozens of languages for prospective international buyers. They screen the majority of these new motion pictures at seven different screening venues in sunny Santa Monica. The Afm is the proud home for the smaller guys, foreign and art-house features and B- to Z-grade movies. Just about everything stars Michael Madsen, C. Thomas Howell and/or Billy Zane. Best of all, the number of genre films has increased substantially over the 11 years I’ve been coming here,...
