The murder of journalist Kim Wall is at the heart of a new two-part documentary set to air on HBO March 8. The first trailer for Undercurrent: The Disappearance of Kim Wall, directed by Erin Lee Carr, reexamines the shocking event and its aftermath.
Per the official synopsis, the two-part true crime series “tells the story of journalist Kim Wall, who tragically went missing in 2017. She was last seen just prior to interviewing the eccentric entrepreneur Peter Madsen aboard his self-made submarine in Danish waters. Madsen changes his story multiple times...

Over 500,000 Americans have died from opioid overdoses since 2000. This tragedy is often referred to as a crisis, which is a term that Alex Gibney dismisses early in “The Crime of the Century,” his latest HBO documentary. A crisis is typically something that happens unexpectedly and can’t be prepared for — and there is nothing random about the surge of opioids in the United States over the last two decades. It was a deliberate tactic designed by pharmaceutical companies to boost their profit margins, and the situation spiraled out of control when the doctors and politicians that could’ve pushed back chose to aid and abet Big Pharma.
Time and time again, “The Crime of the Century” lays bare how the United States’ opioid epidemic was anything but accidental. The four-hour documentary, which is split into two parts and will air over two nights, makes ample use of its runtime to...

Taking influence from films such as Lethal Weapon and Bad Boys and adding a “Law and Order rhythm”, Top Boy star Ashley Walters and Kidulthood creator Noel Clarke say that they want new show Bulletproof to be the most commercial drama on British television.
Speaking to Deadline, the pair, old friends who have never properly appeared on screen together, they discuss how their new Sky One series came about and how they figured out the tone for a funny, and action packed, buddy cop drama.
Walters also tells Deadline about the return of gang drama Top Boy, thanks to hip hop artist Drake, while Clarke opens up about his new All3Media-backed production company.
Bulletproof, which airs on the British pay-tv broadcaster on May 15 at 9pm, stars Walters as Senior Officer Ronnie Pike and Clarke as Senior Officer Aaron Bishop.

MaryAnn’s quick take… This may be Werner Herzog’s most conventional film, but its mostly untold true story knows what it means for a woman to choose a life of adventure and intellect. I’m “biast” (pro): I’m desperate for stories about women
I’m “biast” (con): nothing

Have you heard that there is a new movie, a sweeping biopic of a major historical figure, written and directed by Werner Herzog, starring Nicole Kidman, James Franco, and Robert Pattinson? Seems like kind of a big deal, doesn’t it? Seems like the kind of movie you’d hear a lot about. Instead, Queen of the Desert has been sitting on a shelf since it debuted at the Berlin International Film Festival in February 2015 — more than two years ago — because… why? Why did it just now get a...

A holiday in Morocco doesn’t seem to be working to respark the romance between mild-mannered professor Perry (Ewan McGregor: Jane Got a Gun) and high-powered lawyer Gail (Naomie Harris: Spectre), but maybe a bit of international intrigue will do the trick? According to The Telegraph, Vossen was captured by a police patrol in Valencia, Spain, in February, before being extradited to Zurich where he faces fraud charges running into tens of millions of dollars.
Spanish officers conducting a routine patrol spotted Vossen “acting suspiciously” and, after a brief chase, the former financier-producer was apprehended and searched.
At Vossen’s apartment in Spain, the reports said police discovered numerous identity papers, as well as large sums of cash in different currencies, multiple lap-tops and mobile phones and hundreds of grams of a drug believed to be cocaine.

The gang’s all here: Jean Reno takes on the baddies in The Sweeney: Paris Photo: Unifrance It was one of the finest British TV series of the 1970s. Now The Sweeney receives a French twist from director Benjamin Rocher with Gallic action icon Jean Reno assuming the Ray Winstone role and returning to the fray on the mean streets of Paris.
Orginally titled Antigang in France and then The Squad and now, blatantly, The Sweeney: Paris it is based on the cinema remake by Nick Love made in 2012.
Rocher who made his reputation on horror films La Horde in 2009 and Goal Of The Dead (2014), mixing soccer and zombies, was keen to pay homage to the Die Hard and Lethal Weapon series from the 1980s, which combined elements of comedy with the suspense.

Paramount Music will release the 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi – Music from the Motion Picture digitally on January 15, 2016. The album features the film’s original score by Lorne Balfe (Terminator Genisys, Penguins Of Madagascar).
“The film is really about the soldiers’ ordeal and how they coped with the situation at hand,” said Balfe. “Michael (Bay) does a great job keeping the film from becoming political. The film is really here to honor the soldiers and the men and women who ultimately had to step up and do everything they could to save as many people as possible.”
From director Michael Bay, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi is the gripping true story of six elite ex-military operators assigned to protect the CIA who fought back against overwhelming odds when terrorists attacked a U.S. diplomatic compound on September 11, 2012. When everything went wrong, six men had the courage to do what was right.

Street Wise Hercules: Love’s Homespun Superhero Film Too Conventional for Kicks
No one can deny the super hero is now an immovable staple of Hollywood tent pole filmmaking, having overrun the mainstream market in every conceivable fashion via standalone films, hybrid mash-ups and valiant ensembles. Imperceptibly, these narratives have also infiltrated smaller budgeted endeavors and even independent American cinema, albeit to less substantial effect. British director Nick Love (The Sweeney, 2012), known for a growing filmography built on the type of crime tinged action films once proliferated by Guy Ritchie, makes a curious move overseas with the New Orleans set American Hero, a narrative more interesting than its generic title otherwise suggests. The exploits of a working class man wrapped up in his own downward spiral despite having unexplainable yet extraordinary super powers will have audiences nitpicking its derivative components despite its quality production values and an otherwise persuasive performance from Stephen Dorff.

"With Great Power Comes Zero Responsibility"
Here's a new superhero movie with a different kind of flavor than you're used to tasting. It's a dark comedy called American Hero, and it stars Stephen Dorff (Blade) as a guy who has telekinetic abilities. Of course, he doesn't use them for anything worthwhile. He's basically just a major screw-up, but after hitting rock bottom, he is looking to change his life and start fighting crime. This actually looks like it could be a fun flick! Here's the synopsis:
Melvin (Stephen Dorff), a reluctant hero who is far from super, has been suppressing his telekinetic powers for years with booze, drugs, and women. In the process, he has failed at practically everything, most of all as a parent to his son. After a brush with death, Melvin decides to use his powers for good and clean up the streets of New Orleans with...

James Franco and Kate Hudson suffer from a fast-deteriorating storyline as they agonise over what to do with a stash of cash
What starts as a London-based riff on the themes of Shallow Grave gradually descends into a bargain-basement Straw Dogs as James Franco and Kate Hudson’s misplaced American couple grapple with the fallout of finding a stash of cash amid their dead tenant’s belongings. Should they keep the money and avoid imminent eviction? Or should they heed the warnings of Tom Wilkinson’s wily but bereaved detective? The answer is obvious, yet this increasingly ramshackle thriller somehow manages to bodge many of its key plot points, leaving the narrative as badly maintained as the rundown houses it occupies. Omar Sy picks the short straw as the villainous smooth operator with a naff line in gnomic threats, while the ear-scraping copshop banter leaves The Sweeney looking like a hard-hitting documentary.

Felix Vossen, producer of The Sweeney and I, Anna, has been missing since March.
Fears are growing over the whereabouts of UK film producer Felix Vossen, 41, who disappeared three months ago.
Vossen, whose credits for London-based production firm Embargo Films, include Berlin entry I, Anna, crime-thriller Pusher and cop drama reboot The Sweeney, last made contact with colleagues on March 5 and has subsequently been registered as a missing person with authorities in London and Zurich, where he also lived.
A Facebook page named ‘Find Felix Vossen’ states that the former asset management executive travelled from London to Zurich on March 3 and that “one of his telephones was found in his Zurich apartment”.
“We got a cryptic email on March 5 and that was the last we heard from him,” said director Barnaby Southcombe, one of Vossen’s partners at Embargo alongside Christopher Simon.

Last year, As If celebrated 10 years since it came to an end on Channel 4. Digital Spy looks back on the cult series, speaking to several of the main cast about their memories of the show.
As If: 10 year retrospective of the cult Channel 4 teen drama - part 1
The sad fact with As If, is that it is almost impossible to track down today. The show has never been released on DVD, due to a copyright issue with the music. Without the music, it simply wouldn't be As If.
"Given the choice between no music so we can release the DVD, I'd choose the music," said Caroline Chikezie (Sasha). "They used to say the music was the seventh cast member, it was so important. It just took it to a whole new level. I guess it's worth not having a DVD release just to keep the music."

Former "Game of Thrones" star Ed Skrein will take over the role of Frank Martin in the $30 million reboot of the "Transporter" franchise at EuropaCorp.
Jason Statham played the role in the previous three films, while Chris Vance took on the role in the TV series version. This proposed new trilogy of films features a younger Frank Martin which 30-year-old Skrein will now take on.
Though he's had roles in films like "Ill Manors," "The Sweeney" and "Piggy," Skrein is probably best known for his work in the role of Tyroshi warrior and Daenerys love interest Daario Naharis in the most recent season of "Game of Thrones".
Skrein played the role in the final three episodes of the third season, but isn't returning to the role for the upcoming fourth season. Michiel Huisman is now taking over that part.

Ray Winstone has criticised TV commissioners for having too many cooking and reality shows and not enough drama on television.
The Sweeney star, who was appearing at a Sky Drama launch to promote his new series Moonfleet, said that the standards of TV were improving, but insisted that there was still a way to go before Britain could claim that it was in a "golden age of television".
When asked if he thought Britain was a in a golden age of programming, Winstone said bluntly: "Not yet, no, to be quite honest with you.
"I turn on the telly now and you see cooking programmes and Big Brother and all that crap.
"It may seem selfish because I'm an actor, but as a viewer, I want to watch great stuff. I don't want to see a geezer boil an egg. I want to see something that will take me away somewhere.

Each week we take a look at what’s new and what’s essential viewing on the various VOD and movie streaming services.
This week’s theme seems to weighty and important drama although there is the best comedy from last year as well, a classic buddy cop action flick, zombie lunacy and Star Trek. Perhaps because we are moving into the awards season, Netflix has decided to move with it and add some acclaimed drama for the long dark nights ahead.
Pitch Perfect (2012)
For a comedy about acapella made in the wake of the success of Glee, Pitch Perfect sure is a well written and performed film. Coming as a complete surprise at the end of last year, the story should have led to all manner of clichés as wannabe DJ Anna Kendrick arrives at college and is inducted into an all-girl acapella group who are failing into blandness...
