Want to enhance your horror movie? Make sure you sign up a cat...
This feature contains broad spoilers for several horror movies featuring cats, including Alien, Cat People, Drag Me To Hell, Fallen, A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night, Pet Sematary and The Voices.
The relationship between humans and cats over time has given way to a number of cultural impressions and outright superstitions. Ancient Egyptians associated them with gods. In the Middle Ages, they were linked with witches and killed en masse, which probably hastened the spread of the Black Plague through the rodent population. And in the modern day, it's interchangeably lucky or not if a black cat crosses your path.
Like anything with such a wide array of symbolic links, movies have presented cats as characters in different ways over the years. It's their abiding association with the supernatural – whether as an omen...

The highly-anticipated Love Actually mini-sequel has finally debuted in the U.K., and while the special won’t be available in the U.S. until May, we’ve got all the highlights to hold you over.
Almost all of the original star-studded cast reunited for the 10-minute follow-up in honor of Red Nose Day in the U.K. on Friday — but it was Hugh Grant who immediately stole the show.
Warning: Spoilers Ahead!
The actor has already caused a storm on social media after recreating his iconic dance routine down the Downing Street stairs. Instead of getting down to The Pointer Sisters’ “Jump,...

HBO's "The Leftovers" just concluded an incredible second season. (Here's my review of the finale.) As a bookend to the long and candid conversation we had two months ago, I spoke with the series' co-creator Damon Lindelof about many of the big decisions going into the finale, about all the hard work and tough choices required for a season this good, and his thoughts about the show's precarious future, coming up just as soon as a temple closes on Christmas... Let's start with a meta question: why are we doing this interview? A year ago, you didn't want to do any post-mortems. You wanted to let the show speak for itself. You did a bunch at the start of this season, you talked to Mo Ryan last week, and are doing a few like this for the finale. Why did you decide to be a little bit more out there this year?...

A review of tonight's "The Leftovers" coming up just as soon as I ask about your eyepatch... "Do you want to get out of here?" -Kevin "A Matter of Geography" opens with a scene that almost plays as a scathing parody of Damon Lindelof's body of work, and on the larger swath of TV dramas that lean heavily on secrets and mysteries for conflict. Remember all those times on "Lost" when you wanted to throw a shoe at the TV because two characters who had information that could mutually help each other somehow never had a real conversation about it? Well, we got everything we could have possibly wanted from the impromptu, hilariously candid family meeting, as Kevin told his daughter and girlfriend about what he did with Patti in the woods, while Nora bluntly explained, "I hire prostitutes to shoot me." These four (counting baby Lily) are a...

"The Eighties were good to me," says Jennifer Grey, and considering she's best known for having the time of her life with Patrick Swayze in 1987's Dirty Dancing, that would make sense. "You know those people who rock that hairdo from the moment they got laid the most in their life? The Eighties are a bit like that for me."
Grey, who also appeared in Red Dawn and Ferris Bueller's Day Off, isn't quite ready to leave the age of Rubik's cubes and Max Headroom behind — she currently appears as...

From The Craft and The Birds to The Fugitive and She's All That, the many film reboots and remakes currently in the works...
Over the years that Den Of Geek has been going, we've regularly been charting the assortment of reboots and remakes that are making their way through the Hollywood system. This, then, is the current state of play. We've removed a bunch of projects that seem utterly dead - the once mooted remakes of Videodrome and Timecrimes, for instance - but we'll keep this list up to date as and when we hear of more.
Without further ado, here's what's coming up...
Akira
One of Hollywood's most on and off projects, the current state of the live action Akira remake is that it's back in the works. Marco J Ramirez, the showrunner for season 2 of Netflix's Daredevil show, has been hired to pen a screenplay. Warner Bros is still backing the film,...

Those of us who lead hapless lives know how frightening getting up in the morning can be. Instead of rising and embracing the daylight with an ardent cuddle and a zealous "Yahoo!" we see grey clouds overhead and wonder aloud, "What now?" Another egg carton with broken shells? A second bedbug infestation within twelve months? Still no replies to our Christian Mingles ad even though we've noted we can recite the Book of Revelation by heart in Latin?
Ah, if only we were born into a family of elites. The ultra-rich. Aristocrats with an enviable gene pool.
But instead we're impoverished and pear-shaped with squinty eyes and in need of Proactiv+.
On top of these misfortunes, we really know the gods are against us if while fingering the remote, we accidentally come across Joshua Jackson in The Skulls (2000), and begin to watch it out of inertia. This incapacitating thriller was inspired by Yale's secretive society,...

Dawna Lee Heising: I appreciate you wanting to talk to me and actually, I'm used to doing interviews but I've never been interviewed before so this is a little nerve racking for me, my manager said it would be really good to do it now because so many things are happening.
Mj: First of all, I wanted to ask you, I was doing a little bit of research on you and discovered you have a BA, you have a master’s degree and you have a PhD in business management. It's very impressive.

"21 Jump Street" & "Point Break"
If there's any group that's more difficult to infiltrate than high school students, it's definitely surfers. Just as Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum have to blend in while trying to make the big bust in "21 Jump Street," Keanu Reeves has to convince Patrick Swayze that he's a bona fide surfer dude. There are two possible scenarios when it comes to the Katherine Bigelow masterpiece of 90s action: either you haven't seen it and suck or you have...

21 Jump Street
Written by Michael Bacall, based on the TV series created by Patrick Hasburgh and Stephen J. Cannell
Directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller
USA, 2012
Who has Jonah Hill sold his soul to?
It would have taken a minor miracle to fashion a not-terrible movie out of 21 Jump Street, but conjuring a great, funny film out of that source material leaves the smell of sulfur and brimstone lingering in our nostrils.
Comedy remakes of old TV series are supposed to be terrible (Starsky and Hutch). Buddy cop movies – as Hot Fuzz reminded us – are supposed to be terrible (Cop Out). Movies by comedians made after they get nominated for Oscars are supposed to be terrible (Norbit).
Watching 21 Jump Street lurch down the comedy runway and take off is like watching the Thanksgiving episode of Wrkp in Cincinnati, only to have the turkeys miraculously learn to fly at the last possible second.

As Sony had hoped, the world premiere of "21 Jump Street" at the South By Southwest Film Festival in Austin on Monday night provided the new comedy with just the right kind of buzz. Audience members went nuts for the film, and that kind of enthusiasm could make "21 Jump Street" an R-rated hit in the vein of "Bridesmaids." If that does happen, here's guessing you won't find two people happier than co-directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord.
The young filmmakers (Miller is 35, Lord is 34) made their feature directorial debut with the kids' film "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs," so it was a given they would follow that up with an R-rated comedy like "Jump Street." (It's not?) Loaded with course language and extreme (and extremely funny) violence, "21 Jump Street" is an ostensible reboot of the late '80s television series that launched Johnny Depp to stardom. In this version, though,...

At the 2010 South by Southwest Film Festival, almost a year ago, I sat down with Jonah Hill to talk about his latest comedy, the Duplass brothers-directed Cyrus. At the time, Hill was emerging from the Judd Apatow troupe to take on more professional challenges, including a meatier role in the dependency dramedy, voice over work in an animated DreamWorks tentpole, and sharing writing-producing duties on a comedic “21 Jump Street” adaptation.
But Hill is a self-professed film fanatic himself, and I was curious if his new career trajectory was headed towards directing. ”That’s my intention,” Hill told me at the time. ”Yeah. I feel lucky and blessed to be doing what I’m doing now, but my intention completely is to become a director. That’s exactly what I want to do. And I think the more movies I do, the more I learn and the more great directors I...

Ah, those poor wee actors and actresses. They get whisked around in chauffeur driven luxury sedans, provided with all the bottled water and fruit baskets they can stuff into their perfectly sculpted guts, have young fans screaming their hysterical lusty desires at them, told how fabulous they are by all manner of sycophantic money-men, TV presenters and general fame-clingers, and then, one day, someone in a suit with a briefcase full of money tells them they can sing.
It’s not their fault. We can’t stay mad at them. Not until we’ve actually seen and heard them trying to sing. After that the anger takes several weeks to dissipate, and the phrase “limelight fancying famewhores” seems to hang in your mind…
10. Robert Downey Jnr

Our coverage for the 2010 Sundance Film Festival starts in 2 days and one of the most important articles we can write to inform everyone about Sundance is our most anticipated films list. This list was super hard to narrow down, there are So many films I am looking forward to at Sundance this year. My first list was called “Sundance 2010: Our 112 Most Anticipated Films” but Jeremy said that was a bit of overkill, so we narrowed it down to these 16. Check them out below:
16. Sympathy For Delicious:
Mark Ruffalo makes his directorial debut with Sympathy For Delicious which is a film about a former DJ who is paralyzed, turns to faith healing and starts to cure the sick…except he cant cure himself. I love this plot synopsis, not sure how much I love that Orlando Bloom stars, but we will see. It also features Ruffalo, Laura Linney, and Juliette Lewis.
