With the new riff on the ol' Ghostbusters property nearly upon us, what better time to look back at the original comedy smash? While the film's comic tone and dialogue are well remembered its visuals are less often discussed. The film was shot by the Hungarian cinematographer László Kovács. He logged a lot of quality time in the romantic comedy genre (What's Up Doc?, My Best Friend's Wedding, Say Anything...) but made his name in the 70s on scrappy, famous and/or ambitious pictures like Five Easy Pieces, Shampoo, New York New York, and Paper Moon.

So what's different? Charley Brewster is a now a total douchebag, and Jerry Dandridge is one creepy hot dude.
This Fright Night is, of course, a remake of the 1985 original by Tom Holland, which featured a seductively cheesy Chris Sarandon as the vampire-next-door Jerry and a relatable William Ragsdale as average-teen Charley Brewster. Lest we forget, future Married with Children actress and director Amanda Bearse played the sweet teen Amy, girlfriend of Charley, and the amazingly weird Stephen Geoffreys was Evil Ed, who went on to do myriad gay porn films. And possibly the best part of Fright Night? A passionate performance by Roddy McDowell as washed-up late night horror host Peter Vincent. Ah. This is a good bad movie.
Now we have a remake, with real-star Colin Farrell as Jerry Dandridge and...

Welcome to the weekly Newsroom Poll, where we will give you a sneak peek into the lives and minds of some of the correspondents, writers, editors and producers here at MTVNews.com. Every week, they’ll answer a poll question that will reveal some of what we talk about behind the scenes here in the newsroom. Enjoy!
One of the recurring themes that came up during this week’s Michael Jackson memorial was the idea that the video for “Thriller” was such a huge event that it not only made people love Jackson but love music videos as an art form. Everybody who works here at MTV News had that moment at one time or another — the one where music videos suddenly became the greatest thing in the universe, even if for a short time. Which brings up this week’s poll question: What music video was the one that made you love music videos?...
