The actor playing Elephant Head who sings the Supremes' "Stop! In the Name of Love" is Adrian Edmondson.
Michael Palin was the original choice to cameo as the postman. Lenny Henry was a last minute replacement after Palin had to back out due to a film he was acting in running over schedule, on a location shoot.
When Rik arrives with the red London double-decker bus the image suddenly switches to black and white. A few shots later while the bus is driving along the country road, the picture fades up from black and white to full colour again. This is the first reference to the film Summer Holiday (1963), which, it is not often remembered, opened in black and white to fool its first audiences, and then faded up to colour when Cliff Richard first drove the summer holiday bus over to his friends.
