At the end of a long journey, lives were lost. Some made it with their dreams intact. Flint tries to help two of the passengers with theirs and almost bites off too much. Politics are involved as well as unsolicited trips to the Far East.
The wagon train has reached Sacramento and is preparing to disband. Julie Revere and her mortally ill father have made it and Mr. Revere wants to see the land he bought when he was in California previously. Julie with the aid of Flint finds the property which had been prime farm land flooded with mud due to hydraulic mining up river. Flint and Julie take Mr. Revere to see his "land". It is a different piece of property but upon seeing it Mr. Revere dies. Mr. Revere bought the property from Mort Galvin who owns much of the town including the hydraulic mines. Flint confronts Galvin but he has Flint carted away and shipped to San Francisco to be put on a China bound ship. Friends Flint met on the wagon train trip help rescue him and confront Galvin.
