Crossing the border
Tweekums5 May 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This episode begins where the previous one ended; with an apparently naked Audrey in Agent Cooper's bed; nothing happens though as he gently extricates himself from the situation without hurting her feelings. The police investigation continues as they take a witness into custody... that witness is Waldo; the talking myna bird! Waldo's days are numbered though as Leo Johnson is listening to the police radio when news of a witness is mentioned. With suspect Jacques Renault over the border at One Eyed Jacks Cooper suggests that The Bookhouse Boys pay the establishment a visit; he doesn't know somebody else is going undercover there; Audrey is trying to get a job there as a hostess. While this is going on north of the border Donna, James and Maddy have listened to Laura's cassettes and believe Dr. Jacoby was involved with her so lure him out of his house so they can have a look around.

As the first season of Twin Peaks approaches its dénouement it does look as though the investigation is getting somewhere; they are certainly getting close to criminals but which, if any of them, killed Laura remains to be seen. All this doubt keeps the mystery as interesting as ever. As well as being a fine episode overall there were also some great individual scenes; particular favourites being when Cooper orders a fine cup of coffee explaining that one should give oneself a present every day and the famous scene where Audrey puts a cherry stalk into her mouth and ties a knot in it with her tongue.

an eventful episode that adds even more mystery and intrigue to this brilliant show
framptonhollis30 September 2017
Now that we have the dazzlingly surreal season three, it can be hard to remember that there was a time in which Twin Peaks actually worked as a really engaging and surprisingly straightforward crime thriller with hints of the quirky and bizarre. This episode isn't an epic spectacle of maddening surrealist horror like much of the material that was to come, but it is still ingenious and entertaining television. We travel deeper and deeper into the vast black hole of David Lynch and Mark Frost's iconic tale of mystery and intrigue as they barrage us with memorable moments, heavy tension, shocking violence, black comedy, and essential plot points. Not a second is wasted, there are tons of important set ups and pay offs to get to, and the entire episode flows with a rhythmic sort of intensity, which would be continued to further lengths in the season one finale.

To make things even better, this episode gives Audrey a chance to really shine! She continues going deeper into her own desperate investigation and soon finds herself in a complicated situation. The famous "cherry scene" is included, and the episode opens up on Cooper's unfortunate rejection of her sensual romantic gesture. I have mentioned this before, and I will do so again; these two were destined to be together and it's really too bad that, through some behind the scenes complications, their destiny was never properly fulfilled! However, they still get to remain close friends and the entire sequence is executed with charm and sensitivity.

Audrey takes centre stage in another strong episode. Warning: Spoilers
While this episode mostly serves as setup for the finale, it still boasts some standout moments of its own, and is just generally quite solid as an episode. Most of the action occurs around One Eyed Jack's, as Cooper and Audrey respectively hatch plots to get in undercover. The other most significant thread is the interrogation and assassination of Waldo the myna bird. Only in Twin Peaks could there be a key witness that is a bird, which they actually manage to attain valuable information from.

Birds aside, Audrey is definitely the star of this episode. While she kicks off the episode with a moment of weakness, the rest of the episode shows just how clever and strong she is (including the iconic cherry stem scene). This is the episode that made me fall in love with her character. Sadly, it's also the last great Audrey episode. She had some good moments in season 2, but for the most part this is the last we will see of classic Audrey (at least until the revival).

Warning: Spoilers
Another great episode. Agent Cooper is fast becoming one of my favourite detectives I've seen in tv. He's quirky, smart, and proved in this episode that he also has a lot of integrity. Overall, this episode did a lot for character building, as have pretty much all episodes. The saw mill plot is perhaps the weakest part of the show at the moment but even that is still filled with very interesting, varied characters. The scene where Waldo is shot dead was absolutely brilliant and was just a very Twin Peaks moment. The simultaneous ridiculous absurdity of the situation, and the dramatic and thrilling reveal of what Waldo had said right before dying, combined to make a fantastic scene that progressed the plot greatly. The ending was also excellent, with Madeleine posing very convincingly as Laura. Now that I think about it, the scene of her emerging from the darkness from James' perspective very obviously echoes that infamous scene from Vertigo. Basically, that ending has set up a lot of events to unfold in the finale, and this could be a very strong finish

Noone is innocent at that town!
CursedChico2 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Noone is innocent at that town! Everyone is after something. Everyone is dangeous.

Audrey is working at parfume shop, at same time tries to work at one eyed.

Also cooper and ed from the secret organisation are there.

Audrey saw lots of things behind the wardrobe door. It was interesting.

How can leo kill a bird, it was cruel. I hope they did not kill any real animals.

Bobby wants to finish james. James wants to find murderer. They think doctor killed her, so they will finish probably doctor, will search for evidence. Audrey at same time will search that club.

It is hard to guess who killed her really. That gambler at blackjack? Maybe.

The finale is coming.

An Undercover Trip to One Eyed Jack's
Hitchcoc3 June 2017
The guys are getting somewhere. They have a recording of the Mynah bird's comments (he is the witness to Laura's murder but finds himself a mass of feathers after being shot). The kids continue their investigation of the the psychologist that Laura was in contact with. Meanwhile, there is a trip to the One Eyed Jack's, which is a place for illegal gambling and setting up prostitution. Audrey is the scene stealer, however, as she works her way into Cooper's heart and her father's nasty dealings. She is playing a dangerous game. Laura's cousin, who looks a lot like she did, is also putting herself in grave danger. Bobby somehow has made his way into their scene. I may have missed something. There is also a lot going on with multiple interest in the future of the mill. There is also a betrayal being set up involving a life insurance policy. And the ex-con husband is now seen as a really big player.

"Realization Time"
TheDonaldofDoom27 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Audrey was one of the characters I took an instant dislike to because of how two-dimensional she appeared to be. But in this episode other sides are shown to her. As well as being just a pain for just about everyone, she's shown to care about Laura's death and she is shown to be able to make difficult choices in how she handles Cooper in the hotel room. She's up to her own plans in this episode, although it'd be nice if it was clearer what exactly they were. We know she is going to work at One Eyed Jack's but what exactly she's trying to achieve is unclear in a kind of irritating way. There's no denying she has a very flexible tongue though.

Outside of Audrey's antics, this episode contains some shocking hints about Laura's past. Waldo meets his demise at the hands of Leo's shotgun. Now we know he was connected to Laura's disturbed past and therefore in some way to her death, but this doesn't mean he killed her. There's something really unsettling about hearing Laura's cries of her abuse from the recording of a bird that is now dead. It just shows how you don't have to show something in graphic detail to unsettle the viewer.

What's funny is that James and co are actually doing more effective detective work than Cooper, who seems to drink coffee more than doing anything useful. Waldo could have led him to Leo if he'd been there when Leo tried to shoot him but he was probably off drinking coffee. There's something eerie about when James looks at Maddy and sees Laura, and we see the look on Donna's face.

The success of this episode will partly depend on the payoffs in the season finale as a number of plot threads are heading towards their climax but not quite there yet.

Getting to love these characters
lareval2 October 2021
The storytelling improves upon an already excellent episodes and the season is coming to an eventful heat getting closer to the season finale. The binge watching is still wonderful with this one. This classic show is still mantaining its well deserved status of golden TV.

Kill Birds
AvionPrince1611 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The episode its still pretty interesting and we know. Little bit more about Josie and the work location and who tried to burn it. We saw also a life insurance where we can see a lot of money. The investigations continue and we know that Leo was with Laura before her death. And the bird that the inspector bring get shot at the end. Also the characters try to settle up the psychiatrist by using Laura's voice and the end let us want to know more. The TV show is good but sometimes its very slow and need to be patieent and wait the developpment. A nice episode anyway.
