At the end of the instructions on how to fix the DHD, the sentence reads, "If this all fails, well... see ya!"
The name "Furlings", as made up for this episode by writer and co-producer Robert C. Cooper, became a source for many jokes. Some fans came up with the idea that "Furlings" was an anagram for "Fun Girls". In an interview some time later, Robert C. Cooper said he was amused by the idea, but that he hadn't even realized it until it was brought to his attention by the fans.
A key episode of Stargate SG-1 (1997) as footage from this episode is used in more clip shows than any other episode.
When boxing with Teal'c, O'Neill advises him to bend his kosars. This is the word substituted for legs or knees. The NFL (and USFL) quarterback Bernie Kosar was noted for being hampered with bad legs/knees. The subtitle, however, spells it as "cosars."
This was the first of many episodes to premiere on Sky One in the UK prior to its broadcast on either Showtime or the Sci-Fi Channel in the US.
