- The Simpson family (along with Grandpa), attend an amusement park, but are disappointed when the attractions appear to be more for younger children.
The only bright spot in the visit is the petting zoo, where Lisa happiyl plays with a baby lamb.
When the family gets home, Homer is surprised to see Ned Flanders holding a family reunion for the other Flanders relatives, and he (Homer) wasn't invited. Homer then decides to throw a huge barbeque to get back at Ned's spite...but ends up allowing Ned to attend as well.
That evening at dinner, Marge serves lamb chops, but after her encounter with the baby lamb earlier that day, Lisa claims she can't eat the lamb chops, and decides then and there not to consume anymore meat.
The next day at school, Lisa refuses to dissect a worm, and decries the fact that the school cafeteria does not have a vegetarian substitute.
After these "independent thoughts" are reported, Lisa's class is shown a film about how eating meat is important. Though the rest of the class eagerly gives into the brainwashing, Lisa still keeps her views.
Eventually, Homer holds his barbeque, and Lisa provides a vegetarian substitute of gazpacho (aka cold tomato soup), but is laughed at for her contributions. Going to her room, she is further upset when a hamburger patty flies through the window, landing on her face. Not realizing it was accidental, she feels that she is further being mocked.
As Homer reveals a suckling pig for the centerpiece of his barbeque, Lisa comes up on a riding mower, and pushes the pig on the grill, over a hill. Homer and Bart attempt to catch it, but it soon gets away from them.
In the aftermath, Homer demands Lisa apologize, but she claims she was standing up for a just cause. That evening at dinner, both Homer and Lisa argue again, and claiming she can't live with a "prehistoric carnivore," leaves the house.
None of Lisa's friends give her sympathy, and everywhere she turns, there seem to be ads proclaiming one should eat more meat.
Ending up in the Kwik-E-Mart, Lisa takes a bite of a hot dog...only for Apu to tell her that his hot dogs are made from tofu.
Apu then tells Lisa that he himself is a vegetarian, and shows her a garden he has planted on the roof of the Kwik-E-Mart.
Also there are Paul and Linda McCartney, who tell Lisa about their own views on vegetarianism. As the 4 talk, Lisa soon realizes that she should learn to tolerate other's beliefs.
Leaving the Kwik-E-Mart, she finds Homer walking along the streets looking for her. She claims she still has her beliefs, but apologizes for wrecking Homer's barbeque.
Homer then gives her a piggy-back (or as he calls it, a 'veggie-back') ride home.
