Genius, one of the series finest episodes
Kingslaay28 April 2017
The Switch has to be one of the best episodes of the series.

The concept is brilliant, Jerry and George try and pull off the great switch from moving from one roommate to the other. It is every comedian's nightmare to be stuck with a non laughter who simply says 'That's funny' to a joke. The montage showing the duo go over various situations to pull off the switch is enjoyable to watch. The solution they come up with hilarious and the way it is received by the women.

George and Kramer also have a comedic encounter with Kramer's mother revealing the iconic character's first name which became later used in the show. Elaine tries to amusingly steal her own racket that she lent. Jerry and George definitely dominate it and take the show to even bigger heights as they explore the concept of 'The Switch'.

Another great seinfeld episode

This is another fantastic Seinfeld episode. Seinfeld created some of the most entertaining American television of the 1990s. A show about nothing focusing on the lives of 4 people who we could all relate to. This episode in fact nearly all the Seinfeld episodes of the first 6 seasons, created some of the funniest inventive comedic television. Certainly one of the best things to come out of American Television in the 1990s. The humor of Seinfeld will keep people laughing for generations to come. Also as a side note we see a guest appearance of Charlotte Lewis. Who 9 years earlier memorably partnered eddie murphy in that forgotten 80s cult classic - The Golden Child.

She's INTO it...

Warning: Spoilers
In "The Switch", Jerry attempts the unthinkable: switching from dating his current girlfriend to her roommate. But things don't go according to plan when the two approve a proffered threesome with Jerry. George is somehow dating a model and is convinced that she is bulimic due to her meal portions and her tendency to go "freshen up" post-meals. Elaine lets a potential employer borrow Mr. Pitt's racket but can't ask for it back after the woman seriously hurts herself playing tennis with it. Kramer reconnects with his mother and the rest of the cast learns that Kramer's first name is Cosmo.

"The Switch" has one of the all-time best plot lines regarding the roommate swap plan that Jerry and George devise, absolutely hysterical. The reveal of Kramer's first name also works as solid B-plot to the episode; it's good for a few jokes.

But Elaine and George's subplots leave a lot to be desired. All that Elaine's accomplishes is getting Kramer into Newman's room to end the episode with the big romantic reveal. Her interactions with Landis never really get off of the ground. While I do enjoy George's line about her "throwing his money down the drain" (classic George mentality in this situation), the rest of the plot doesn't accomplish much or have many laughs; it's more of a time killer.

Despite these two subpar B-plots, the overarching hilarity of the planned switch and the Cosmo reveal make this another Seinfeld classic.

"Do you ever just get down on your knees and thank God that you know me and have access to my dementia?"

Season 6, Episode 11, "The Switch"

"The Race" was a tough act to follow, and yet it was followed by "The Switch" which remains one of the best episodes of Seinfeld's entire run. The episode has a terrific script, culminating in two brilliant dialogs between Jerry and George in the middle and ending of the episode, regarding the titular switch. The relationship humor feels like it might belong in season 5, but the way it uses music and editing places it in the more intricately produced season 6.

Interestingly, the element that got most of the attention when the episode was first released doesn't seem that interesting now - it's the first time Kramer's first name was revealed. It's not as shocking a reveal as it was back then, but the scene is still terrific, especially Michael Richards' acting in it. As a side note, there's also the gorgeous Charlotte Lewis as, probably, the most beautiful girlfriend George ever had.

Again, its all in the dialogue!
BovieMuff-9118 September 2011
Warning: Spoilers
The highlight of this episode is the four-five minutes in the middle, when Jerry and George draw up blueprints of how Jerry can successfully perform "the Switch". It's four-five minutes that do more than an entire season would in other shows. And again, it all comes down to the dialogue! Remember the scene when Jerry goes through the final plan with George? "...even as part of her cannot help but feel somewhat flattered by her inclusion in the unusual request!" I mean, its things like these that really got the show to the heights it ultimately reached. Not taking anything away from the actors.. but anyway fantastic episode. Definite 10/10!

To Die For
Hitchcoc2 January 2023
The entire use of words in this episode is sensational. There are several discussions between Jerry and George that are the highest form of comedy. The "Switch" involves Jerry going with a humorless girl but later being attracted to her roommate. What to do? Offer to be part of a threesome, of course. George, meanwhile, is going with a beautiful girl who is probably bulimic. He enlists Kramer's mother to spy on her but things fall apart. We also get knowledge, for the first time, of Kramer's actual first name. He has alway just been Kramer. Kramer is liberated and the scenes of him walking down the street are delightful. What a wonderful episode.

Well I don't find most of his standup funny either
ThunderKing626 March 2023
That might be a hint. Some of the jokes he used were forced and not natural at all.

This review that you are reading was typed on March the 26th 2023rd in the 21st Century

What happened in this episode?: Jerry dating an attractive non-laugher but wants to pull her roommate instead because she's a laughoholic.

Elaine can't retrieve her own racket back.

Kramer's first name is revealed

George dates a cute skinny girl that uses the bathroom a lot.

The story and the production overview: Kramers and Jerry's storyline are the only ones most notable.

George storyline only exists for the name reveal.

When I first started watching Seinfeld. I didn't even care for Kramer's first name. Though, the apartment reveal was hilarious.

Goof: In an early episode in the series, it seemed like Kramer and his mom were close. Fast-forward to this, they don't see eye to eye.

Overall, a fun little episode.

Highlight: George and Jerry planning montage. George walking in and revealing his diabolical plan. Kramer's name reveal.

Laugh meter: 10

Girlfriend attractiveness level: Georges was a good 7. Jerry's main was a 9. Roommate was a fair 6.8.

What can be learned?: Be happy with what you got... because thing may get a little out of hand

Verdict: Cosmo.

Cosmo Kramer
safenoe23 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Sheree North makes her debut appearance as Babs Kramer, the mom of Kramer, well Cosmo Kramer, so the who world learns in The Switch that Kramer's first name is Cosmo.

Anyway, The Switch had a noirish feel to it when Jerry and George were plotting to switch girlfriends with the menage a trois and all. Anyway, Wayne Knight, who co-starred with Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct, rekindles his romance with Babs, and they are caught out at the end, much to the horror of Kramer.

Anyway, I'm enjoying re-watching most of the Seinfeld episodes after having I first watched them when it debuted in the 1990s.

Just one great storyline out of 4
juanmaffeo6 May 2016
Another incredibly overrated Seinfeld episode. This one suffers from the same problem that "The Marine Biologist" had. Yes it has ONE amazingly, astonishing, impossibly perfect storyline and that's it! I'm sorry but in an episode with four story lines, one being awesome and the other three sucking, it's amazing to me that it has a 9.1 rating on this network. Unbelievable.

Elaine's story is boring, Kramer's is so incredibly lame that the only thing I remember is his name being revealed and George's is kind of funny but it isn't great.

Yes, the switch storyline has one of the best dialogue in the entire series but Seinfeld is great and iconic because of the way they can interact all story lines in a perfect way and not for writing great dialogue and disconnected scenes.
