Couple of criminals on rampage
searchanddestroy-116 May 2018
I was amazed by this episode, showing a very surprising scheme of a Young couple in love with reach other as well as in life in general. a couple of ruthless criminals who seem to be unaware of all the harm they bring everywhere they come. Despite of this the audiences may feel empathy for those two Young adults. Another version of BONNIE AND CLYDE or GUN CRAZY. This is a scheme not yet told in this drama series showing criminals of all kinds.

High camp and pathos that was way ahead of it's time!

This is a 'Bonnie and Clyde','Criminal hillbilly Couple in NYC' 'Murder and robbery spree' episode and it is a real treat and a true delight! Rip Torn and the always-lovely Tuesday Weld make a great quirky and charming young couple on the run from a trail of murders and armed robberies financing their presumed elopement. This is not fantastic or great but it is indeed enjoyable and pretty darn-good entertainment. The mood is definitely dark and rather frightening to be honest. Not for the squeamish. I liked it.

Always do what Mama says!

***SPOILERS*** Driving into New York City with their battered and barley operational jalopy from the Razorback State of Arkansas fun loving couple Ansel & Ora Mea Boake, Rip Torn & Tuesday Weld, have run up a string of murders and robberies that would make even former #1 fugitive on the FBI's most wanted list John Dillinger green with envy. Now in the Big Apple the two young lovers don't take that long to paint the town red: Blood Red!

Ansel starts off gunning down two people on the street of Midtown Manhattan over a simple traffic dispute one of them being NYPD Det. Frank Arcaro,Harry Beliaver, who of Ansel's two shooting victims survived. An all state dragnet is put into action looking for him as his "moll" Ora Mea before they or Ansel kill anyone else. What' even worse is that Det.Arcaro's partner the ultra liberal sensitive and caring for humanity Det.Adam Flint, Paul Burke, not only holds himself responsible for his partners shooting, he was in a store when the shooting happened, but far worse had lost his humanity for the human race! Det. Flint was now determined to find Arcaro's shooters and exact Justice on them as the sole judge jury and executioner!Yeah that's right Flint when it, crime, hit's home all your wonderful liberal ideas end up going straight down the toilet!

With both Ansel & Ora Mea, who aren't all that bright to begin with, totally oblivious to what trouble they caused and that there's an all out attempt by the NYPD to apprehend them, with deadly force if necessary, they still go on happily committing crime after crime, that included a number of murders, as if it''s like their playing a pinball machine. What's even more amazing is that the cops lead by the very emotionally charged and adrenaline driven Detective Flint have almost no idea where the two are when their in fact right under their noses, in Midtown Manhattan, and make no attempt of hiding themselves.

***SPOILERS*** The two on the loose and by now serial murderers' luck runs out when they attempt to knock off a bank right in the heart of the city,Midtown Manhattan, at high noon. Det Flint had by now fully composed himself and figured what both Ansel & Ora Mea's next move was and it paid off for him and the NYPD who set a trap for the two. In the end with Ansel shot top pieces, Bonnie & Clyde style, and Ora Mea in police custody all Det.Flint want's to know from her is why her dead husband shot his partner Det.Frank Arcaro? It was Det. Arcaro who fortunately is one of the few people who survived his insane and murderous rampage against society! Why Ansel shot the other dozen or so people, who unfortunately didn't survive, never once seemed to have entered Flint's mind!

These Two Savages are NOT Likeable People!
FloridaFred4 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
SPOILER ALERT.

A "Bonnie and Clyde" story. The producers cast the great actress Tuesday Weld, and the equally great actor Rip Torn, as cute rural hillbillies who shoot up New York City. This was several years before the famous movie with Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty, but the set-up is the same.

Ansel Boake (played by Rip Torn) and Ora Mae Youngham are not appealing. They are amoral, immoral killers (the title of this show calls them "savages"). The writers try to make this couple look cute and charming, such as the scene in their hotel room. The writers want the audience to feel sympathy/empathy for these two young people on the run. But it doesn't work. You just want those two ruthless murderers to die already.

One totally unbelievable scene occurs in the gun store. Even in the 1960's, no gun store owner in his right mind would watch a "customer" load a bullet into a gun while they stand at the counter. It just wouldn't happen.

Something else that is highly improbable - the hick sheriff from Arkansas talking to Lt. Parker on a 1920's style telephone, and the simpleton mother who doesn't even know what age her own daughter is. This was an attempt by the producers to portray Arkansas as some backwards state. Sure, Arkansas gave us the rock band "Black Oak Arkansas" with their hillbilly look, but remember that Arkansas is also the home of the Clintons, and the home of Sam Walton (Walmart), and the home of the Tyson family (largest purveyors of chicken meat in the Western world). Arkansas is hardly the home of a bunch of in-bred hillbillies!

And the final scene where Detective Flint asks, "Why did you shoot the detective?" Duh, why did they shoot and kill numerous other innocent people? Is Detective Arcaro (who lived) more important than everyone else?

The best I can do for "Two Savages", in spite of the great acting by Tuesday Weld and Rip Torn, is 6 stars.
