Sheer Melodrama
Ras Lal Punjabi is a crook who has come over to England. He wants revenge from the colonial looters as he is targeting one couple from India.
Punjabi makes a start by getting fake currency from forger Tommy Fenalow.
Fenalow is someone who has been in Reeder's sights but you have to be both clever and lucky to catch Fenalow in the act.
I think this adaptation of Edgar Wallace's short story wants to make some remarks about comedies and melodrama. Reeder is gifted some tickets to the theatre but he is no fan of comedies. He thinks Sweeney Todd is more realistic.
Some theatrics are used to catch the villains by Reeder who is of the opinion that someone in the police is helping Fenalow.
Once again, like the music the comedy is broad. Reeder works well when his romantic interest Margaret Belman is involved.
From the voice you know it is Ken Campbell who plays Fenalow. He does look rather young here.
Also from his voice, I recognised Michael Bates as Punjabi. He is better known as Blamire from Last of the Summer Wine and Rangi Ram from It Ain't Half Hot Mum. Although Bates was born in India, it is just a shame that both Indian characters had to browned up.
