As a youngster, I had an older cousin who introduced me to the CREEPY and EERIE magazines of the era. JENIFER (written by Bruce Jones, and drawn by Berni Wrightson) was the scariest, most disturbing story to ever appear in the pages of CREEPY!
Now, it gets the star treatment, becoming an episode of MASTERS OF HORROR, directed by none other than Dario Argento himself! Writer Steven Weber fleshed out the short story, without losing any of its visceral impact. In fact, it's even more unsettling! Frank Spivey (Weber) is suitably bewitched. As for Jenifer herself / itself, she's a gruesome wonder. Although Wrightson's original rendition can't be matched, especially those cold, dead eyes, the beautiful Carrie Anne Fleming plays the role with just enough repulsive seduction to make up for it. She's a freakish monstrosity, enslaving Spivey, while merrily feasting on various animals, neighbors, etc.
Argento goes all out to make this a supremely uncomfortable experience! It's far more graphic / extreme than the original comic, but that's to be expected. Arguably, the best of the entire MOH series. Recommended for those who believe their last relationship ended badly...
